I’ve been here for some time, and I don’t often comment, but I have to acknowledge the cleanliness of your home. I see so many that need to take the time to clean up and when I see a clean house it impressive. Thank you for bringing back what was once normal

if you are going to use those large bags consider putting 4 patties and oz absorb in bottom of the bag and seal 1/2 way down the bag, then add 4 more burgers and oz absorb and seal the top of the bag.

I have access to a freeze dryer and never knew you could do things like this. I've searched around and read that wild meat does really well in the freeze dryer. I then started thinking about how much easier it would be to make pemmican if you freeze dried the moose meat before grinding.
    Anyway, thanks for the video!

I don't think we will get a freeze dryer, but just in case I like to watch how it is done. I'm sure it will be so much more convenient to have it in your beautiful pantry than downstairs. I really like how organized you are, but it is still a happy place.
Mary at Mary's Nest puts little keepsake items here and there in her pantry and I thought that was so neat to have those little memories whenever she gets into her pantry.
Do you have keepsakes or items from your mom in your pantry? Maybe an apron or whatever? I like to hear about those kinds of things along with all the useful information.
Thank you and God bless you!

Nicely done. You covered all the steps from start to finish, to include preparing the food to eat. Also, nice pantry setup. I have mine setup in the basement. I converted my light sockets to outlets and installed some LED lights from Harbor Freight; that really brightened things up. One thing you may want to considered when labeling your bags is marking them "Raw" or "Cooked".

Greetings from East Texas! I’d SO love to have a Freeze Dryer. I think….😛. I have a Foodsaver, and Mylar bags for food storage. I’m a new Canner. I am newly Retired after 52 years in Health Care, with just under 40 as an RN.
I’m originally from Ohio. I remember my Grandma canning homemade jelly and jam. I SWEAR…she could make Blue Ribbon Jam out of grass from the front yard 😝.
My Dad was in the Military (Marines during Korea… then switched to the Navy). We left Ohio when I was about 4 1/2, and moved around my entire life.
I was always jealous of my Cousins, because they all stayed in Ohio and grew up there. Funny, but NONE of them ever learned to can or garden. Which is sad!
So I’ve taken up canning to Honor my Grandma and the other Elder Women of my family who are all gone now. Fulfilling a dream I’ve had forever.
Thank you for your great videos. I’m enjoying my Binging…

Rene, what a cute and smart lady you are! What an awesome video! I'm so glad they put you on my suggested videos today. I'm a new subscriber! I've learned so much from this video and appreciate your making it. We have an upright freezer full of cheaper meats that will go freezer burning soon if we don't get busy freeze drying it. This will be perfect. You're not afraid to do things, and not afraid to share with others what you know. I'm going to freeze dry my meats, thanks to your suggestion, but make sure I mark it "raw", so I know if I need to cook it. • @melissam450
      @melissam450 2 ปีที่แล้ว

You only need one 300c o2 absorber for most bags. For really large bags or 5 gallon bags you’d need more. We’ve never used more than one o2 absorber for any bag offered by harvest right. Their largest is an 11x14, I believe.
You can squeeze out most air before sealing and you will notice the bag sucking into itself over a day or two with the absorber sucking out the o2.

We’ve freeze dried seasoned taco meat, chili, spaghetti with meat sauce, store bought canned chicken, tuna, we did biscuits and gravy, (in separate bags to be mixed at time of consumption) etc. you can freeze dry most things that aren’t made primarily of fat. They can have “some” fat as long as it’s very little and well dispersed. When we fd fatty meats like pork roast we rinse the meat, after cooking, with hot water. It gets the fatty residue off and freeze dried beautifully. Rotisserie chickens.. the list goes on and on. I’m going to make a big batch of beef stroganoff soon and freeze dry it too. I LOVE our freeze dryer.

I have a lot of meat to go through before November when my next steer goes to butcher. Can you do an update video on your freeze dried meat? Im not sure yet if Im going to use the meat after it's freeze dried. How long does it take to rehydrate and the texture of it once cooked.

SOOO..I did actually JUST see your channel (today is 1/10/23) and I am thrilled at how well you explain everything and you get to the point! I have had my freeze dryer for 2 months now and love to see what others have learned and how they do things! Love the canning jar lid idea and I am not sure if I missed it, but what kind of roast was that? Was it a chuck roast? Thank you for your time! I just subbed by the way!

I used an English cut roast. I think the only difference between the two is the marble is more in the English roast.

How long will the meat keep sealed in mylar with oxygen absorbers? Does the fat content of the meat matter for long term storage? Thank you

Hi Renea! I'm new to your channel and so happy to have found you. I love your videos. You're very informative and at the same time fun to listen to. I was born in Lansing, Michigan and raised north of Battle Creek in a small town called Vermontville. My husband and I recently bought a Med. Harvest Right and are still leaning how to use it. Have you tried freeze drying spam? We tried that ...yesterday....and it's still going.... on 30 hours now....

Have you used any of your meats from your long term storage? I have just learned that the fat can hold moisture and slowly releases it over time which can spoil the meat. Ugh! We have freeze dried a bunch of NY steaks and am discovering that they are not dry all the way. We will run them a second time but the fat is an issue that I do not quite know how to handle. Most meats have at least some fat in the meat itself. I see you are doing sausage so have you used any that have been done a long time?

Wonderful video! ❤ What is the shelf life of freeze dried food after opening the mylar bag?

Great video Renea. I’ve been too chicken to freeze dry raw meat. You just gave me a shot of courage to give it a go. I have lots of cooked meat so I have to make sure I write “raw” on the label so I can tell the difference. Would you mind doing an update in a month on the meat? I’m curious to see how the fat in the sausage pattie’s stores. Your burger looks very lean so I’m sure it will be great. I surely will try this so I can further diversify my food storage.

Absolutely. You know Harvest Right tells you that it is fine to freeze dry raw meat and really it is better because you are not obligated to one dish.
