Anne reciting her genious from the depths of her lungs, Sylvia speaking hers in tongues. I wish they've found a common sanctuary. I love them both in different ways.
I discovered Anne Sexton while studying from The Norton Anthology Of Modern Poetry in College in the seventies. The most valuable gift given me after all of her books was a 33 1/3 album of Ms Sexton reading her poetry given me by my gf for my birthday. I was enraptured by her confessional style and her progression towards the women's movement before there was anyone else to join. Read "The Fury of Cocks" as an example of that which I am speaking. The high point of many came last year when I finally was able to communicate with her daughter Linda Grey who wrote be a beautiful and personal letter on behalf of her mother almost forty years after her death. Thank you Annel
So I am working on an essay about my second inpatient adventure on a psychiatric ward. I was trying to explain the 'activities' they encourage the patients to attend. I remembered Anne Sexton's 'Ringing The Bells' poem and how the first time I heard it (along with 'Music Swims . .') it REALLY struck a chord. And that was BEFORE my second experience. I cannot quote/print the poem in the essay, but I do mention it.
