Was your miner on your lift when you placed it? If so, and you used your lift elsewhere, dropping the collector + whatever vehicle it's attached to onto the base, then anything connected to the base will get collected.
Okay, so it's not that... but I think it IS because the resource collectors aren't connected to the base, but the base itself is acting as a range-extender of some sort.
@@ifeather I do remember kAN and Kosmo crashing their resource collector vehicle into their trucks, which had loads of resource rods on them, and I think that that's what's happening. The game is doing calculations every now and then, and "realising" that the resource collector vehicle is "colliding" with the base because of gravity, and it's a certain amount of ticks before it "realises" that collision again.
Do an experiment with the resource collector OFF the base, then set up a few rods welded to the base, and see what happens if you crash your collector vehicle into the base...
just tried it and it immediately work twice even on the opposite side of the base but the 3rd time I put on a bearing it didn't until I put on the main part of grid. Thank for the help!
I've harvested roughly 10% of my world and I don't recall a single instance of a collector grabbing something farther than a few blocks out.
Around 2-3 years ago i was able to PAINT a haybot spine with a painted resource collector. Maybee look into that
I have never seen that before, that's so bizarre!
found a bug in the game that the devs have essentially abandoned, not surprised lol
not true, the steam DB gets updated every few days

Can't really remember, but i normally drive my vehicle in and park them without the lift
