I had an amazing vegan 3D printed steak at Unity Diner in London, the restaurant founded by Earthling Ed. The brand was called Redefine Meat. It looked just like this and tasted as close to a steak as I’ve ever had, and wasn’t as expensive. But short of flying to London this is the next best thing. I hope we get something like this in stores soon.
Funny that he mentioned Guga foods, because I saw a video a few days ago where they tried the vegan "Wagyu Steak" and they all three didn't like it 😂 (at all)
That looks really good! I would like to see your take on recreating this. I think the hardest challenge is to get the strains all in the same direction. The rest is flavouring, and you already nailed that. ;-) A while ago I made a mixture of thinly shredded oyster mushrooms and gluten (seitan), that worked out pretty good, but definitely not as beautiful as this.
I have seen manufacturers of flavorings and extracts. They don't just make the basics like vanilla or almond - they have unusual extracts like cotton candy, butter rum, or maple bacon flavor - all vegan! I wonder if one of them also has a vegan steak flavoring one can use. Obviously natural plants are the best source of flavor, but most people eating these vegan steaks won't be too worried about that.
@@TigerGreeneextracts aren't always some crazy science experiment. Vanilla extract is made by just soaking vanilla pods in very, very high proof liquor. That's all it takes
@@msjkramey Actually, that is not all it takes. Commercial vanilla extract is highly processed and requires maceration in a series of alcohol washes at specific percentages, temperatures, under pressure, then filtered and/or percolated through several rounds. This draws out a deep, complex blend of hundreds of flavor compounds from the bean. This is nearly impossible to make at home without expensive equipment. Cold infusions (or technically a tincture) like you described are easy - just slice a few beans and drop them in alcohol. I have both in my kitchen. Infusions have a much more subtle flavor with a simple, basic profile, but they don't contain most of the flavor compounds (which are highly volatile and don't fully extract). Quality commercial vanilla extract is a much more stable, concentrated, and layered product. Infusions are also not cheaper to make. They cannot replicate the wider range of flavor of a commercial extract. Took my father, who’s very much a meat eater, to try it at the vegan Mexican/latin fusion restaurant Siete, and we had it pulled in an arepa and as the unadulterated star of the show in their carne asada and, just, absolutely nuts.
Juicy Marbles is REALLY good!!! They sell it here in the US as well. I would say they are close but this is on top as far as texture and taste. JM is really good dont get me wrong, but if you have tried this one it'll blow your mind
Ive had chunk a few times now at a few restaurants in NYC. SO good. Tastes like braised short rib to me. Still waiting for that perfect vegan “steak”. But this is damn close
It's not available in the UK. I'm wondering how the stratafied texture is formed. I wonder if a very thinly rolled seitan folded in on itself compressed would do something similar.
Im really trying to figure it out. The cost to manufacture it overseas is out of my budget at the moment, and the shipping cost is through the roof. Hopefully after this next run I can get a few small orders made around the world
Juicy Marbles does a steak that is basically exactly the same as Chunk foods steak except Chunk foods only sells to businesses, if you wanted to order some and try some recipes. They also make great ribs with the same texture.
I’ve tried juicy marbles! It’s really good, but it is different. If JM is 90% there chunk is 110% there in taste and texture. Both are excellent and I highly recommend both of them. But chunk wins by a margin to me.
Yeah I think you need a business license to buy them and prove you’re a restaurant. I’m going to try though. I found the same link. And sorry about your other comment… that wasn’t me. I think it was yt spam filter
@@SauceStacheThanks Mark, I think this was my 3rd or 4th try to comment - I figured there are rules about posting links. I hope I don't get banned! I will try to buy them too at some point.
@@SauceStacheMark, I just ordered my 16 steaks. It was no problem, I just entered my business as "other" and put in my band name as my business name, plus I got their 6 week payment plan with 0 interest! It was $176 with shipping which comes to about $11 per steak. I just need to order your steak sauce now!
Oof my condolences. Good luck in the move! Do you have a new place in mind? FYI, the vegan friendly places tend to be cities, so it will cost way more to live there than where you are now. But the salaries are way higher and there's tons more jobs available.
Oh nooo it's too bad to go from a glass to plastic bottle just for a little convenience problem, you can't please everyone but plastic waste is such a problem so I was glad to see a glass bottle, the step back is too bad
There was a lot of breakage with the glass. We lost over 10% of the original product. The waste from the product along with the over double weight for shipping the heavy glass bottles it made it far more worth it to switch. It was a hard switch for me too but it felt worth it.
I need to do a side by side... But from the last time I tried it I would say chunk wins the taste and texture game here, BUT not by much. Chunk is really good, but their fibers are thicker a little tougher and not as springy. This comes out more like real steak, like exactly like real steak. Juicy Marbles was 98% there. This is 110% haha
We get juicy marbles too!! I’ve tried it. Very good steak! Different than this for sure. But I recommend them both. This one is much closer to real steak though.
Thanks for the review. I'm a 32-year vegetarian, and my subjective, rule-of-thumb experience is to make the range of vegan replicas only 1/2 has thick as what's being copied. Otherwise, it's just "too much" and the full sensory experience of a Beyond Meat burger, etc, etc. disappears. Again, that's my opinion. Hopefully the beet taste is non-existent. Looking forward to trying the Chunk steak soon.
Wow this looks just like Juicy Marbles, which is the best vegan steak I've had so far. I'm not sure there's any restaurants near me that sell the one you tried.
Sorry if you mentioned it in the video and I missed it, but how does this compare to Meati? There's a restaurant near me I can go to try this, but they don't sell it as a steak, but as like bits in their other dishes.

@@SauceStacheShoot, maybe because you're a well-spoken and motivated entrepeneur who can cook? Dunno, could be your looks alone. 🤷♂️
I'd like to try this!👍👍👍👍👍
Frankly, I don’t need to have food that looks like meat. Simple food, prepared simply is awesome enough for me!🌸
This looks the same as a juicy marbles steak which is available in the UK for around £9 for a pack of 2 and they are amazing.
Juicy Marbles is REALLY good!!! They sell it here in the US as well. I would say they are close but this is on top as far as texture and taste. JM is really good dont get me wrong, but if you have tried this one it'll blow your mind
A restauant near my office in Manhattan is selling this as a dinner entree for $35. Tempting.
It’s worth it for sure
Kres chophouse is another good option in the Orlando area, steakhouse with a secondary vegan menu
You have to try the Planted steak (Planted Foods AG, from Switzerland) :)
This is so Exciting❤❤
It's crazy right??!!!
Ive had chunk a few times now at a few restaurants in NYC. SO good. Tastes like braised short rib to me. Still waiting for that perfect vegan “steak”. But this is damn close
really cool!!! i wanna try it!
It's not available in the UK. I'm wondering how the stratafied texture is formed. I wonder if a very thinly rolled seitan folded in on itself compressed would do something similar.
A video with you and guga would be so fun
I’ve been waiting for this to come to America!
Its here!
Where did it originate?
@@rosemarie20 UK!
@@DashinqueMichele Thanks!
NotSteakSauce can only become the world’s best condiment if you sell it internationally…
Im really trying to figure it out. The cost to manufacture it overseas is out of my budget at the moment, and the shipping cost is through the roof.
Hopefully after this next run I can get a few small orders made around the world
@@SauceStache What would it cost me for shipping to Scotland
Juicy Marbles does a steak that is basically exactly the same as Chunk foods steak except Chunk foods only sells to businesses, if you wanted to order some and try some recipes. They also make great ribs with the same texture.
I’ve tried juicy marbles! It’s really good, but it is different. If JM is 90% there chunk is 110% there in taste and texture.
Both are excellent and I highly recommend both of them. But chunk wins by a margin to me.
I believe these steaks can currently be purchased online in a 16 pak at $140.
Not even going to mention that whopping 13.6mg (80% dv) Iron? I think a lot of Vegans can appreciate a good source of Iron.
Beans
Dang there isn’t any in my area. Not surprising since I live in Kansas. Hoping to move next year! To a more vegan friendly area!
Oof my condolences. Good luck in the move! Do you have a new place in mind?
FYI, the vegan friendly places tend to be cities, so it will cost way more to live there than where you are now. But the salaries are way higher and there's tons more jobs available.
I hope this tastes better than Juicy Marbles. I spent a ton of money on it and I didn't think it tasted like steak at all.
Obscenely expensive.
At a steak house about the same price as a steak of the same size.
@@SauceStache It's a $5 ingredient, plus $53 for it to see a few minutes in the pan.
@@aq9415 try and make one for $5 and show us the photos of it please
@@thereturnofthemac why would I make one? I would just buy it from the wholesaler like this restaurant.
The fact that it's slightly pink inside like a real steak, it's incredible
Oh nooo it's too bad to go from a glass to plastic bottle just for a little convenience problem, you can't please everyone but plastic waste is such a problem so I was glad to see a glass bottle, the step back is too bad
There was a lot of breakage with the glass. We lost over 10% of the original product.
The waste from the product along with the over double weight for shipping the heavy glass bottles it made it far more worth it to switch. It was a hard switch for me too but it felt worth it.
MY MAAAAAAAAAN!!!!
I had a nice rare sirloin last night, and the bullock/steer which provided it was vegan, so all good.
how would you compare it to juicy marbles?
would love to hear from you all
I need to do a side by side... But from the last time I tried it I would say chunk wins the taste and texture game here, BUT not by much. Chunk is really good, but their fibers are thicker a little tougher and not as springy. This comes out more like real steak, like exactly like real steak. Juicy Marbles was 98% there. This is 110% haha
you should make vegan birria fries or tacos with the chunk steak!
That looks exactly like the Juicy Marbles steak we get in the UK. We pay about £9 for 2 steaks in the supermarkets.
We get juicy marbles too!! I’ve tried it. Very good steak!
Different than this for sure. But I recommend them both.
This one is much closer to real steak though.
@@SauceStache ahh I see. The way it pulled looked so similar. The ingredients are pretty similar too. I'm impressed if this is much closer!
What a time to be alive!
Okay. Looks like I'm making a 7 hr road trip!!! 🤤🤤🤤
It looks like it closest represents a thick slice of roast beef. In the look and texture.
Yeah, really close to a roast
this is dope dude!
Looks like they serve it at a restaurant a couple of blocks away. Looked at their menu but did see it specifically mentioned.
That looks tasty! Om nom nom!
You couldn't believe how tasty this was!!
Looks like a London broil cut. Awesome, wish they were more available.
For when you want a primal strip but you want it to be the size and structure of a crumpet
Wow this looks just like Juicy Marbles, which is the best vegan steak I've had so far. I'm not sure there's any restaurants near me that sell the one you tried.
36k plus emails?.... My OCD to keep that box empty is kicking in..🤭
hahahah I know... its nuts!! Need to get a handle on it
That looks so good and I'm not even vegan
It's really good, like anyone can enjoy this.
Good for you man. One thing people who review is get paid to review and that's an automatic disaster.
Are you going to try making this? I'd love to watch that!💜
Now get the price down to less that $10 a pound and now I’m excited about this product.
Wow that's looks good 👍.
Thank you!!! IT was nuts!!!
Bet that would make a great Reuben sandwich.
Sorry if you mentioned it in the video and I missed it, but how does this compare to Meati?
There's a restaurant near me I can go to try this, but they don't sell it as a steak, but as like bits in their other dishes.
Definitely needed the steam you did because it was looking dry at the restaurant
Before I clicked on the vid thought it was Juicy Marbles
I tried this recently. It was good, but I think Juicy Marbles has a better taste and texture.
Looks amazing like Monica was on your date night 💑 I wonder if only available to the commercial sector is potentially down to quantity of production and cost 🤔 Is it 3D printed out of interest ?
She did look amazing right!!! Thank you! This is not 3d printed from what I understand!!
I never even liked steak before going vegan, But I'd definitely try this. Also, What kind of sauce is your Not steak sauce? And does it ship to the UK?
It's a umami sauce!! Sweet, savory and a little spicy ( just a little spice ) right now we are only shipping in the US! Trying to get that changed very soon!
