The lesson plans are wonderful resources to keep you on track the entire school year. I recommend them to everyone. A Charlotte Mason Homeschool is a fabulous educational approach where learning is actually enjoyable...no crying or whining or frustration. It’s an education children actually talk about. Thanks for making this so easy for us...busy moms.

I want to thank you for posting these vids. I have compiled all the reading lists for years 3, 3.5, and 4 and only had a rough idea what I needed to do with all these books. I have a question. Is it too much to teach more than one foreign language? Right now we are tackling Spanish and French with great results. I've heard well educated kids like Edgar Allen Poe, were taught even more languages like Greek and Latin. What did Charlotte recommend? Perhaps I should read all of her books first instead of bothering you with these questions.

Charlotte Mason taught several foreign languages in her schools. She started with oral French lessons in grades 1-3 (remember that France is right next to Britain). In grades 4-6 she added French reading and writing alongside oral German lessons. Then in grades 7-9 the French and German lessons continued, both with reading and writing, and oral Italian was added. Finally, around grade 4, she introduced written Latin lessons alongside her English grammar lessons, since Latin isn't used as a spoken language in modern times.

Simply Charlotte Mason Thanks for responding. Just to clarify. I introduce Latin in year 4 or did you mean year 10?

Charlotte introduced Latin in 4th grade. We prefer to hold off on Latin until 7th grade. But do what works best for you-just keep in mind that Latin isn't a spoken language so the children should have established handwriting first.

Do you have any information on the why behind teaching Shakespeare?

How do I teach foreign language when I don't know a foreign language? Can I learn with my child as we go or should I take time to learn a language before introducing it to my child. We are getting ready for year 1.

With the foreign language curriculum we recommend, "Speaking Spanish with Miss Mason and François", you can learn along with your child. The curriculum is available with audio recordings so you can hear the words and phrases spoken correctly if you are not fluent in the language.
Those foreign language books are available here: cherrydalepress.com

I have been learning Spanish to teach my children. It doesn't seem like Charlotte's method necessarily requires for you to know and there are so many resources.
