  • Hello fam😁. Here is a video on how to calculate your catfish stocking density for catfish.
    A lot of farmers overstock or under stock their ponds due to lack of knowledge of calculating the stocking density.
    This knowledge will to a great extent ensure we have a very very good yield at the end of the production cycle.

    Thank you so much for the informative lectures you so tirelessly give us and we really enjoy them big time as we are trying to start our first backyard fish tank farming however, we have a question; Does the equation 10ltrs= 1kg, is it standard for all types of fish rather, does it apply to Tilapia fish as well or it's just the equation for Catfish?

    And what are the local incredients I use to produce fish feed?

    • @TheFarmLadyAquatics
      @TheFarmLadyAquatics  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No please. Even if you'll want to eat it, allow the ovulin effect to wear off, give it a month. But ideally you shouldn't eat it cause it can still be used to spawn another set of eggs as it takes 3months for the fish to have another set of eggs after the first spawning

    Thank you very much for sharing this.
    Which means from your calculations, my pond that I have being estimating to take up 3,000 fishes up to 1 kg can actually take up to 7,928 fishes comfortably.
    Because each of my earthen pond is 35ft by 20ft by 4ft (the actual volume of water).
    I think I have to start thinking of stocking at least 5 thousand fishes in each of my ponds.
    I will be updating my process on my channel as well as the farm progresses.
    Thanks once again for sharing.

    • @emmanuelbarka2565

      From experience 10,000 is too small to raise 1000kg except it is a recirculatory pond. It is better to use 20,000=1kg. If not your water gets dirty easily. Fish will not grow.

    • @emmanuelchiabuotu2676
      @emmanuelchiabuotu2676 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Do try it sir, it won't give you the required result you want.
      Reason 1. Is because in an earthen pond, it is not only your cat fish that live and share the available space oxygen in your earthen pond, there are other biological matters that compete with your fishes in terms of space, light and dissolve oxygen.
      2. If your pond dimension like you said is 35ft x 20ft x 4ft, it means the volume of your pond is 2800 ft. This in liters will be 79296L. Judging by shikemis explanation, you should be able to stock about 7929 pieces of catfish. But this won't be realistic because the following questions need to be asked an noted. (I) . Is the water volume in your earthen pond at the exact amount of 79296L?
      (II). Can you determine the amount of other biological matters competing with your fishes? Unlike in concrete and plastic pond whose waters are frequently changed thus destroying the cycles of other living things in the pond.
      (III). Are all the fishes stocked of the same weight 1kg? Some will obviously be 1.5 and above though, some fishes may also be around 800g.
      3. So to be on a safer side, and to prevent over crowding of the pond, you can use the standard of about 15L = 1kg or 20L = 1kg.
      With the above given, you should be able to comfortably stock between 4000 to 5000 pieces of fish. With the confidence of your fishes growing well and making you more money.
      Thanks
