    Funny as the film is, it was the serious side of it that I felt really made it effective. Pegg's character is the archtype of the guy who peaked in high school and has spent the rest of his life desperately trying to recapture it (the "Dazed and Confused" line of "If I ever look back and say these were the best years of my life, remind me to kill myself" fits him perfectly). When at the end, Frost demands why the Golden Mile is so important to him and he screams, "IT'S ALL I'VE GOT," the anguish and pain in his voice is heartbreaking.

      no. This isn't an atypical British comedy movie. It's just an Edgar Wright movie. His style is too unique to call it a British comedy. As for American comedy movies, there are good ones. The Big Lebowski, Superbad, etc. are pretty good. The same thing goes for Big Lebowski. The Coens are too unique to call that one American.

    • @neelparmar6690
      @neelparmar6690 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hot Fuzz has one of the most brilliantly written scripts ever. Every joke comes full circle, not a single line is wasted and attentive viewers who pay attention to all of the lines and little details get the biggest payoffs. I hope Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg consider making another film together, they can do no wrong.

    • @novapariah8135
      @novapariah8135 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hot Fuzz has an 121 minute runtime, which means if you'd watched it a million times since release, you'd have spent 2,016,666 hours (and 40 minutes) watching it., or 84,027.77 days.
      The film came out on the 14th February 2007, this comment was posted sometime during 2014. For the sake of convenience I'll assume it was posted on the 1st of January 2014, as this is generous in your favour.
      Between these two dates, 2513 days can be placed, meaning that, disregarding sleep and any time spent not watching Hot Fuzz, your comment is exaggerating by a factor of 33.4.
      You, sir, are a liar.

    This movie is so amazing, from the acting to the comedy to the directing and so on, but my absolute favorite thing has to be how well Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg were able to balance the comedy with the serious emotion. This is something they've always been good at, but they KILL it here. Not everyone can go from "I just punched my wedding ring out of a robot's tummy!" to "It's all I've got!" like they do. Such a good movie.

      I hated This is the End - I didn't quite stay to the end of the movie and wished I'd left when Emma Watson did as I think she had the right idea. Just a bunch of comedy actors massaging each other's egos. Someone should remind them that we pay to see movies. They get paid rather well. We expect them to work on making a comedy funny.

    I loved the fight choreography in World's End. It was fast but not unrealistically fast. The main thing that I loved was that they guy that designed those fight scenes made it to where everybody in that movie could do something realistically according to each actor's abilities. Each guy showed a natural ability for each thing.
    I was really impressed with what they provided in each fight scene.

So I saw it and it was hilarious, Simon Pegg acted amazingly awesome, it has become one of my favorite anti heroes performances ever, not from comedy but ever. Also having extremely talented and lovable actors like Martin Freeman it just gave so much more to the movie. I just remember the scene, **Spoiler Alert** (where they are in the ceiling and Gary jumps to the ceiling of the car) I was drinking beer and I just blew it out of my nose.

    I'm a bit late to the game, but I just saw this tonight for the first time. Simon Pegg was freaking awesome. I enjoyed the film overall, but Hot Fuzz is my favourite, out of all three of them. The two cops who keep giving Simon Pegg's character a hard time in Hot Fuzz, had me in stitches. They had a great cast, and Timothy Dalton was perfect.

    I saw The World's End along with Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz at the special trilogy viewings on the British release night. Such an atmospheric time. Every time someone said the F word everyone in the theatre clapped. Hands down the best film this year. Makes me proud to be British! ;)
    In terms of what I like best it has to be The World's End, Shaun of the Dead and then Hot Fuzz.

    I am so sorry to say this Chris and I hate the fact I'm even saying this but I HATED The World's End... The movie starts off enjoyable and then it gets boring and then it gets enjoyable and pretty badass to watch for a while but then it gets messy and the ending was stupid as hell. That's just my opinion but I'm so bummed that I hated the film. There are heartwarming moments with badass action sequences along good performances and I do admire the writing because at least it has effort compared to some of the shit I've seen in 2013. I would sadly give the film a D+ though :/

    This movie was really disappointing for me. I loved the first half, this might even be the funniest movie in the trilogy, it was great I was completely on board.
    However the second half started to lose me a bit and it got kind of confusing. I wasn't sure what the hell was going on, and then the ending happened and I really hated it.
    The ending was really pretentious and artsy. It didn't serve the characters or anything, it was a really hamfisted message that took me out of the movie and dragged down my whole opinion of it.

    • @swaggidyswaggins375

    • @babakhanoushii
      @babakhanoushii 9 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Swaggidy Swaggins There were a lot of metaphors in the film for growing up and how the adult world can be nothing more than a brainwashed wasteland. Gary King's speech at the end of "wanting to be free" was the same thing he said to his teacher during the flashback to his last day of school. All three of the Cornetto films have metaphors and social commentary sprinkled throughout. I guess some people consider that artsy. Personally I loved it.

    • @swaggidyswaggins375
      @swaggidyswaggins375 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Waleed Khan The cornetto trilogy is not artsy. It's cleverly written satirical comedy. If your favourite director is Michael Bay you would probably think this is artsy.

    • @babakhanoushii
      @babakhanoushii 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Swaggidy Swaggins I've seen some artsy films so I can confirm that this is low on the artsy scale. Brilliant writing though.

    • @EldritchAugur
      @EldritchAugur 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Waleed Khan Basically anything that has a message that pertains to something unrelated to the film is what I call "Artsy."
      Unless it's delegated to subtext, anything else feels extremely forced, and for a lighthearted comedy film to suddenly diverge into full on message movie at the last few minutes felt incredibly awkward.

    that's what I love about the Cornetto triology. I don't have a favourite. Shaun of the dead is the funniest, Hot Fuzz has the best story and This is the End is the most entertaining of those 3. I don't have a favourite because each one of them is different, but also the same, but different (if that makes any sense). So I don't even want to pick a favourite which is something special to me, because when it comes to franchises I always wanna know for myself which one I like the most. But with these movies, I don't care. I love them all equally

    First of all, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are my favorite comedy movies and two of my favorite movies ever. But this film was a huge disappointment. Such an amazing cast and the tight, clever writing and direction you come to expect from these films, but you just didn't feel connected to the characters, and the jokes just weren't as funny. Nick Frost was boring, Simon Pegg was depressing and despicable. These movies always have heaps of twists and turns and ramp up several times. This just sauntered along drearily and the ending was really, really bad. If you're a huge fan of the series like I am, you're going to see this regardless of what anyone says. Just don't get your hopes up. Unless you find aging alcoholics with suicidal depression funny.

    This movie has the most entertaining character exposition I have ever seen in a film. I was born in the 90´s, so those little references at the beginning made me go back in time. Even surprises like Rosamond Pike (whom I didn't recognize until I saw her name in the credits) and Pierce Brosnan really did great in their roles. Two actors that haven't acted together since 2002's Die Another Day. Of course they really didn't have much interaction together but they still did well respectively, and finding a place for Bill Nighy (which I won't say because that will spoil much) was a great, welcomed tough.

    Hot Fuzz is the best offering of the Cornetto trilogy in my opinion. Shaun of the Dead gave us glimpses of the biting satire Edgar Wright was capable of, and he seemed to have perfected his comedic finesse with Hot Fuzz. The jokes NEVER stopped coming, and they were ALWAYS hilarious. It blended so many different types of comedy- in the visuals, the dialogue, the editing, the sound design; subtle, blatant, clever, juvenile, wit, slapstick, bit gags, and the FUCKING REVEAL. The World's End, as much as I admire it in its own way, sacrificed a bit of its grace for its ambition. Still, I certainly think it's the rawest out of the three.

    I think I love This Is The End and The World's End equally. Because they are both very different comedies with very different styles and not to mention the filmmakers are based in Hollywood and England so they couldn't be farther apart. Culturally it's different. The thing is I like movies to be 100% perfect like Taxi Driver or A Clockwork Orange, and if it's not I still enjoy it and think about what they could have done differently in the writing to make it better. Its kind of a game I play with myself and its sort of practice for when I write my own scripts. This Is the End had more room for imrovement, but it had a superior climax that saved it. While The World's End's climax is literally exposition and a relapsed alcoholic talking to an alien computer... again.... its a man talking to a computer about the galaxy and all this mumbo jumbo plot shit..
    I get the spirit of humanity theme, but I seriously think the way it was executed was poorly done and it was my only problem with the movie. Aside from that I loved it to fucking bits. Especially the begining, just because its so relatable for any guy who felt like he was on top of the world at the end of high school and when on a whole bunch of crazy adventures. It's just such an amazing time in any person's life and I wish that it focussed more on that aspect and how Gary was going to be forced to wake up by his friends that think he's pathetic.

    I'm really glad that you liked it this much, because the first time I saw it I really enjoyed it, and not many people agreed with me when I said I thought it was good. Looking back now I do have a few personal issues, like Gary doesn't even drink his last pint! And *spoiler for anyone reading who hasn't seen it* it kind of ends bit weirdly, it's almost got it spot on, because it's hilarious when the three characters are shouting at the machine thing at the end, but then after all it's worked up to it suddenly just ends and decides to explodes because 'it's pointless arguing with Gary King' and I thought they could have done something slightly better than that but that's just a personal opinion. Apart from them things I love this film and could watch it over and over.
