Thank you. I am a Viet Nam veteran, US Navy. I first heard your singing this past January on WUMB, 91.9 FM in the Boston area when they began playing “Bullet Holes in the Sky”. It blew me away, and it continues to do so. You are a talented and a powerful songwriter. I wish I had discovered you sooner. I am now the proud possessor of your entire catalog and a lifelong fan of your music. Thanks for sending them to me. The songs on “Rifles and Rosary Beads” are important songs. All American citizens need to hear them. I have been doing my part to introduce my friends to your music. “Bullet Holes” is particularly powerful to me because nobody thanked me for my service until they needed cannon fodder for Iraq and Afghanistan, and while I emerged unscathed, I have friends who did not. The songs “Brothers” and “Iraq” tell important stories from the perspective of female soldiers, and “The War After the War” and “Stronger Together” tell equally important stories about the service members’ loved ones. I am particularly impressed with the imagery you invoke with your lyrics. In “Mercy Now”, you write, “The fruits of his labor fall and rot slowly on the ground.” Thank you once again for your songs. I look forward to seeing you perform in Portsmouth, RI. I hope you bring Tania with you. Her playing and harmony vocals are something rare.
I'm here because I'm spellbound... like everyone who listens to the lessons and insights in Mary's songs. Her world is one in which I would love a permanent place, among real people whose lives are in a better place now, having been caressed by such eloquent words and song..... Thank-you so much for sharing your gift, Mary !
To come home....to survive another day... Did we cheat death? To help remember our fallen brothers and sisters if only in our minds. For them to reach for us thru the midst of it all.. Saying, 'Thanks for always remembering us" an honor to take your hand; welcome home. SGT Anglia Emmendorfer
Sadly, Mary is spinning out into a self-fulfilling tragic prophesy. She is one of the most creative and emotive writers/singers I have ever encountered, but she will not be satisfied with success, but grinds out a strange and tragic kismet that is depressing to me. Wish I could visit with her today.
Victor Edwards ,What makes you say these things about Mary.I thought she was just becoming very interested and involved in her teaching, and creative writing for a while.
Thank every Muse for artists who refuse to be satisfied with their success..... I think Mary probably gets a kick out of her “success;” I just don’t think she’s real impressed by it. What seems to impress her is digging deeper, scraping hard, and crafting even harder. Success or no. Makes her a teacher.
@@skeeter776 You folks that cannot see the obvious truth seem oblivious to her angst, just as you have been her whole life. Why are you content to scrap this dear person on the scrapheap of life? It seems cruel to me to enjoy her music but disregard her soul.

Mary’s songs are always Heart Wrenching, you really feel them.👏🕊🕊
Step aside, Dylan, a poet has entered the room. Mary will go down in history as the best songwriter of modern times.
She is an authenticic, tough and yet sensitive lady. Led me through the darkest years of my love. Thank you for that.
Wow, Mary you have no idea how this song describes the last 12 yrs of my life...♡♡♡

During the darkest days of my discontent
It did not matter how my time was spent
For every morning when I awoke I did lament
My self loathing was most prevalent
Self care was irrelevant
Shadows lingered in my mind
No happiness was there for me to find
All the threads started to unwind
Reality became hard to define
Locked inside, nowhere to hide
Carrying guilt, blame and shame
Really is a losing game
The messages begin to drag you down
First you flounder then you drown
You think you’re screaming, but there is no sound
The darkness is so very deep
But when you learn to listen, silence speaks
So many lessons here for you to learn
Pay attention and discern
This is the wisdom that you must earn
Feel your way slowly in the dark
Rekindle your own life giving spark
Use your breath and fan that flame
See the light begin to change
Watch the darkness start to fade
Feel the grace sink into you
Welcome that chance to start anew
You have the strength to see this through
Day by day you are renewed
Adjust your attitude, to gratitude

I don't think you can help her. Your "holier than thou" attitude would probably send her running for the door.
