      I have a slight objection... I like coffee with a recepie of water that is a bit light, so it's mostly distilled water. Now, you can drink that kind of water by itself but is not recommended because it produces a slight imbalance of electrolytes and in time you get a lack of magnesium and calcium that are usually found in bottled or tap water. So it's better for... health to drink it *not* by itself all the time. But is wonderful for water recepies and generally coffee making.I have the feeling that this thing has the same problem. But water is cheaper and judging by this, also better tasting... hahaha

    I think the reason these exist is because they offer the "experience" of high class social drinking without the alcohol. It's generally frowned upon to be the guy who just has a soda, or at least gives an impression of immaturity. These come with the same price tag as real liquor and the same chic packaging, which makes them "non-alcoholic drinks for classy adults."
    They're a prop, not a drink. The taste is secondary to their social use.

    • @livyann2143
      @livyann2143 2 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      You hit it on the nail. My father's an addict and I abused alcohol briefly. I don't drink often at all. Alcoholic beverages are a HUGE social thing. I always bring NA malted drinks (halal stores carry them!) or a fancy sparkling water. I celebrate/relax with these drinks as well. I also use "fancier" herbal teas for this purpose. The purpose is not to imitate alcohol at all, it's to imitate the purpose alcohol serves in our lives for those who choose not to drink on an occasion or at all. I've served only NA "adult drinks" at a party and everyone enjoyed themselves and the drinks. We as a society need to cut down our alcohol consumption. We can have fun without getting drunk and these are a good step in the right direction (and plenty of these type of drinks are NOT nearly this expensive, I get a four pack of non-alcoholic beer imported from Saudi Arabia at a halal store for about $5)

      I was once at a discount/clearance store and came across a 4-pack of "kvass" for the first time in my life.
      The packaging was in multiple languages but I could make out that it was a non-alcoholic (-0.5% abv) fermented wheat bread beverage.
      I'm the kind of person who loves to try new things and at only 99 cents for 48oz; I had nothing to lose.
      Turned out to be a good drink. A bit savory like beer, but slightly sweeter(nothing near a soda, though).
      I agree that it would do society good to slow down a bit on the alcohol consumption. Some times I crack open a beer just because I have that urge but maybe I'll find myself a cheap, reliable kvass source...😎

      There are specialty flavours of sodas at some stores, and you always have the option of getting some fancy fruit juice and mixing that with some sort of tonic water. You can also just add some lemon juice to orange juice to really amp of how citrusy it tastes. The point of "having a drink" isn't to get drunk, it's to drink something you don't normally have. To have a tasty luxury beverage to relax with.
      One of the problems with non-alcoholic options is that they're seen as substitutes for "real" drinks rather than their own thing. Kind of like how most of the terrible meat substitites are hated because they poorly mimic the flavours and textures of actual meat rather than being their own thing.

    Thank you for reviewing these! I have a friend who doesn't drink and I saw these at my local store and almost bought them except for the price. I was debating whether or not to try one and you've saved me the money! I would love to see you try other non-alcoholic "spririts" and make other non-alcoholic drinks on your show!

    Thank you for this! I love cocktails but have been also trying to figure out a way to decrease my alcohol consumption. You've saved me $32! I can't wait to see more.

    Thank you for doing this, I love that this is a thing that exists, me and a few friends don't drink for various reasons, plus there are a lot of folks (like me) that take medications that do not play nice with alcohol.

    I LOVE that you're doing this Greg! Firstly because I have a lot of friends who are taking a break from alcohol and secondly because that sticker shock for Seedlip isn't as bad here in the state of Washington where hard liquor is taxed at 20%.

      @@AhPook it's because you want a cocktail that actually has alcohol you wanted something None-Alcoholic just get a Soft Drink/Juice/Coffee/Tea/etc. that already exist and are far cheaper. Can make a None-Alcoholic "mocktail" with those things for less then getting those fancier things.

    Thanks for doing an honest review of these! I was really curious, but also too put off by the price tag to just go all-in on a bottle. I tried the Garden flavour at a party once (with tonic) and remembered thinking that it had a bit of a taste like fresh peas, cucumber and peppercorn, but kind of not in a good way?

    Interesting episode! I almost bought one of these with a gift card I was given, but I ultimately went for a bag of coffee aged in Pappy Van Winkle barrels, and it seems I made the right choice. One liiiiittle critique. I found the last track on this video to be a little flat for you and the usual tone of your channel, which is so consistently delightful.
