Winning first and secure her spot as the program's project girl group I.O.I's center(face of the group) at the age of 15! I.O.I active for about a year (because they're a temporary group) but still having tremendous success, check out 'Whatta Man' and 'Very Very Very' from them. But in 2018 she left JYP and joined YG's sub label 'The Black Label' that is why the video is crazy because you know YG don't mess around. Blackpink girls support her so much cause they're basically from the same label and they have the same composer (the very famous Mr Teddy). Some said that if she stayed in JYP she could've debuted with ITZY which is kind of a super rookie right now. But she doesn't really need another girls cause she shines brightly on her own so yeah, she's doing good. She's a hardworker and she's been trough a lot in such a young age. Harsh criticism thrown at her because she's very carefree and childlike, doesn't really care about girlgroup image where you have to be ladylike and reserved. She has lots of male idols friends, she talks about her crushes on tv or how she's easily fall for people, you know just a normal 18 year old girl but people hate her for that.

Before debuting as a solo artist, she was part of the 11 member group I.O.I. All that, and she's only just turned 19. She's half Korean and half Canadian/Dutch, through her dad, who is fairly notable as a minor celebrity in Korea himself. It's very unusual - and very cool - to see a hapa getting recognition and enjoying success in Korea.
Somi was also on a Korean TV show Sisters Slam Dunk season 2. It was about making 6 women into a Kpop girl group. Somi was the youngest at 17 and the oldest was 43. The draw for me was Minzi from 2NE1, it also shows how respected she is in the Kpop industry. Check it out, but a warning it can suck you in. Also Somi's father is a well known action movie star in Korea. and as goofy as his daughter.
