@@krystallvinter7438 my middle-aged dad calls the younger people he works with "kids" or "boys/girls" and they're in their 20's or 30's. it's not uncommon for older people to call young adults boy/girl/kid, since as you get older the younger people seem. in my dad's eyes i'm still a kid, but i'm now in my twenties -- so of course he thinks everyone in their twenties looks like a kid.
@@mqple5686 I know that people older than you can call you kid even if said person is clearly an adult. But what I meant is that we disabled people (I'm autistic myself) are very often called kids by our peers, or even by people younger than us. I am 30 now, and when I was about 27 or 28, someone who was 24 or 25 said "she's just a child" to someone else, talking about me. It's a way to keep us disabled people feeling inferior, by adressing us with infantilizing speech. I am not a child. And whenever I hear other people adress us disabled adults as children, I get so disappointed and angry. I wish people would understand. Or at least try to.

Peter and I both graduated from the same high school. His mother was my English teacher my sophomore year. She is a special education English teacher, and she was the best English teacher I ever had. She is great with all the students, and she inspires people like me who have a mental disability to not say no to a challenge, and to not allow people to tell me that I cannot accomplish anything in life. Seeing someone I can relate to who went to the same high school I went to on this show, and spreading a message on one of the most famous TV shows is just fantastic and amazing. Peter, my fellow Washington Township High School alumni, keep doing amazing things and go Minutemen.
the substitute teacher was so kind, she even said "IF YOU CAN, let that blow over", which is so considerate because she acknowledges that its not something he can probably just forget about
I’m 21 and I have autism, I don’t have a job and I still live with my mum, but when I help my mum I’m a bit slow when I pack stuff and I have other things that are hard for me and I would hope that if I get a job that someone would stand up for me.
There's a pleasant, sweet young man who has Downs Syndrome at my local Whole Foods. He always bags my groceries with such care and diligence. Most people just throw things in wherever and end up squishing the bread, putting frozen stuff with non-frozen etc. But he's so thorough and polite too! I love when I go to his lane 😊♥️
I always try to pick these lanes myself. These individuals need appreciation and to be respected just like everyone else. They are a child of God. God made them special just like you and me. We need to acknowledge it! The "least you do onto my people, that you do onto me!" (Sorry got all Biblical)
this was hard to watch there is a disabled man that is a bagger at my local save mart and we always talk about baseball and sports and always have a conversation,if someone treated him like that i would honest to GOD kick there ass.
No, this actress doesn’t get on my nerves. It’s freaking Trisha or whatever her name is with the black wavy hair and she always plays the demonic super Karens. THAT ACTOR gets on my nerves. I’m sure she’s lovely IRL but her voice just makes my blood boil with Karen hatred from these.
I got a brother with special needs and he's got his first job folding towels and sheets at a hotel. My family and I are incredibly proud of him! I hope that if he was ever talked down to that someone would stick up for him like these people.
You guys should be proud and I hope your brother is proud of the hard work he puts in to earn his money. Everyone no matter their race, gender, age, size, and whether a person has a disability or not we serve a purpose each of us in making this world continue. Now I know to most of us being a room keeper we wouldn’t take it seriously or wouldn’t care that much about the job (I’m being realistic here) but I know without knowing him or you that he takes it very seriously and should be damn proud of himself. My first job was bagging groceries at 16. The feeling I had knowing I was finally helping financially at home for a single parent felt really good and plus now I was able to buy what I wanted and didn’t have to ask. I hope your brother is feeling that same way. That was 15 years ago and I’m making a little more than I was bagging groceries, and I don’t know your brothers disability level it’s not my business and maybe this is what he’s going to be able to do with his life or maybe he will be able to venture into other things but nonetheless never stop loving him, never stop supporting him, and never stop guiding him!! If you read this whole thing congratulations! I do this every time I’m passionate about something I go on a fell blown speech.

My partner also works there so hopefully it'll work out Either way never stop making these comments, I read every word, keep doing what you're doing being positive! First off I’m sorry you were left a nasty comment. Computer tough people is all that is! Anyways, just like your brother im in my 30s as well (30 be exact). You mentioned you won’t be seeing him again and I have to say to that is you don’t really know! I hadn’t spoken to or even seen my brother for 18 years and that’s not an overreaction we didn’t see or speak for 18 years. It was all based on lies that our grandmother told him about me and our mom. But just one birthday out of the blue I get a text from him wishing me happy birthday. So point is, is you don’t really know if it’s forever right? Who knows maybe it will be but until either one of you is in the ground (sorry to be morbid) the chance will always be there. Also I’m rooting for you to get this position you come across as a very decent young man/woman (hey I have no idea maybe you’ll tell me in another reply) just please tell me you didn’t mention anything about your partner on the application because that will cause an issue. Best of luck and stay strong and never stop reaching for your goals! And I want to apologize for the man/woman part. I’ve actually experienced this before. I used to work at a grocery store a few years ago and I worked with an amazing boy who had Down syndrome. He was very kind and funny, just the sweetest. He bagged slower than some, and as a cashier I didn’t mind and would help him when I could. Some customers were understanding but plenty were extremely mean. They’d ask him to hurry up, yell, tell me things like “good luck with that one”, or just give me certain looks. I wanted to say things back to them but of course I didn’t want to lose my job.. it was very frustrating.

Customers will abuse anyone. As a whole, the general public is just disgusting. The pandemic made them even worse. Try everything you can not to work in retail or food. These people don't deserve the hard work you put in.
Working as a cashier at a grocery store, people treated me worse than in any other job I had. They were impatient, condescending, and disrespectful. I pray that I will never have to work retail again.
Me too like I have autism but I'm not stupid or very much slow I don't approve with their stupidity I don't care how difficult it is, they need to chill out and leave those people who are different, just because we have learning disabilities doesn't not mean that we can live our lives, like we're hard working and highly motivated just like they are my disability can not control me I can control it and I don't use it as an excuse I use it as a weapon to embrace my power to speak my mind about how I feel the situations mainly, people who discriminate against others with disabilities are very disgusting people every one of them are too!.

AnGie 21 it’s true. I was the lady.

Right? I don't know how she does it. If I had to play a role like hers in this video, I'd be so mad at myself.
She's probably super nice

@@DannyX15-565 Aw man I just read this after getting a nasty comment on another video (not relating to my brother, but regarding myself)
My brother is in his early 30s now, I didn't grow up with him and I just moved so I won't be seeing him at all
But when I did see him he was so sweet and caring and absolutely loved his job, not sure if he still had it, but I'm sure he has another
He's in a caring home for people with similar disabilities as him and he's making a little money for himself so I know he feels good about that
I'm glad you got a better job! I just turned 20 and just moved and have my fingers crossed for this job position I just applied to. My partner also works there so hopefully it'll work out
Either way never stop making these comments, I read every word, keep doing what you're doing being positive! You put a little pep in my step today
I really can’t tell by your name or picture if your male, female, or who you identify as. I’m all about respect so that’s why I’m saying this
@@DannyX15-565 Oh trust me, I've had my fair share of online bullies so I have tough skin
Also I don't doubt I'll see him in heaven if that ends up being the end
But he has William syndrome, making him have the mentality of a 7-12 year old. I didn't see him much even when I lived where I did, so it doesn't hurt as much. I know the people he's with will take care of him.
I'm glad you got on good terms with your brother it seems! My other siblings and I never had the best or closest relationship so I'm practically an only child lol. I do have a soul brother across the country I met two years ago online so I'm not as alone
I am a guy to curb your curiosity! I appreciate the formality of not assuming
And the boss knew my partner and I were together before she offered me the job! She works with her husband there so it shouldn't be an issue as long as we focus on work rather than eachother
I appreciate you being kind to a person a decade younger than you, I tend to get talked down to haha (though some younger people nowadays seem to not have manners :/ )
You should absolutely be proud! Hope you and your family are doing well ❤❤❤

Ok but people with Down syndrome are so nice and sweet like can we just give them love and not hate
