What an amazing look at the creative process! Austen is truly a gifted artist! I so enjoyed hearing about his journey as he learned his craft in such a unique self taught process. His work is incredible and Eric, your first attempt is absolutely stunning! He was a wonderful teacher and you were an excellent student! Never sell yourself short... God has given you a unique gift to learn new things and create beautiful works of art! God bless!

Now THAT was an Awesome video. That young man rolled out his dream before him. Hearing his journey from his own words, I felt a lot of what it took for him to reach his goals. I am inspired greatly by the fact that when he came upon obstacles, he found ways, his own, to overcome them. And it is clear that he did not give up. Austen, I salute you. I am old(er) but you inspire me. I would count myself lucky if I met you one day. Thank you.

Breathtaking ! This episode is breathtaking ! Thanks Eric to offer this to our world !
Finally, everyone can then understand that doing sculpture is the same as drawing : you need to stop thinking and use your eyes to capture the reality, not your brain.
"Do what you see, not what you think" is the key of success for such a difficult art… You're a lucky man to get the chance to have a try with Austen, believe me !
And when I see how "human" are the faces he does, it moves me a lot !

Very powerful when your muse reveals itself to you. Inspiration: from the Latin inspirationum: to breathe into from the spirit, or the breath of God. Let it define who you are as an artist and craftsman. Find joy in your creative processes.

I can't begin to express how this just inspired me as an artist, Austen, thankyou your work is amazing! I can see your a master at what you do,I've always have wanted to sculpt in clay so far I've just snow sculpted horses out of snow. And they melt. Eric the way you express yourself, inspires me too, I've never been good at that.

I have only just come across this craftsman series, my partner Ford Hallam who is a renowned Japanese metalwork artist shared it on his Patreon channel. I felt really moved and inspired as a fellow craftsperson to hear Austen’s take about the definitions of art and craft, I call myself an artist goldsmith because the artist and crafts woman combined makes what I am.
Thanks for the series, I am excited to watch the rest.

I live in Atlanta Georgia, and I'm a well-known Craftsman... You spent too much time with trepidation... instead of walking it like a tightrope scared to death keep going... man I'm glad I grew up in the projects because it ain't nothing I can't do well. And I would have went in there just like you did but I would have never told him I was scared or I didn't think I was going to be that good... You are that good dude... LOL you are

You chose an amazing artist to feature! It was so interesting to watch both of you work on each piece. They both turned out beautiful! I did worry a bit when the head was cut in half and saw all that slip slide down the face! The piece that Austin showed that he intentionally broke was really cool! I really enjoyed the interview, too. What a talented artist and I hope to see more of his work. Thank you for introducing him to us. Great show!

Hi Eric, I have been a very devoted follower of your Legacy shows for years. You and the crafts people you introduce us to are truly inspirational. It is fascinating to see and hear them go on about their craft and each episode gets better than the last. Please keep on producing such worthwhile programming for many more years to come. BTW who manufactures that great flannel shirt you are wearing while sitting in the rocking chair on the porch, a classic look for a truly classy guy. May God Bless

Hi from uk , I’ve been trying to find alternative finishes and messed with acrylic and then shoe polish , I love the wood stain idea , did you seal that with a satin or matt spray varnish ? Hope you don’t mind me asking
