1:09 I once saw this engine at a public model train layout (that's usually American HO scale and N scale), and they had this exact engine running with some British Pullmans! The p2 has some nice sounds!
Ooh very nice!! It's great that one of those made it all the way over there - they are great! Yes the P2 does have a nice selection of sounds! All the best, Sam :)
On one of my early model-shows, on my 1st table (it was a big one 3.5m X 1,5m) we decided to run trains with DCC sound, including a loud sheep-wagon. On the 3th day we couldn't stand them anymore, especially the sheep-wagon, so we went on DC on the rest of the week.
Sam, I have both King Charles II and King Henry III. I installed the TTS Decoder into both of them and love running them. The long whistle while running at an express speed just makes running them even better. Joe
Gadwall never made it to British railways service. It got destroyed in world war in a air raid. How tragic, still at least the tender went back into service
4Fs got the moniker of "Duck Sixes" from their wheel arrangement, 0-6-0, and the fact they had a tendency to waddle from side to side when starting and at higher speeds. They were also known as "Big Goods", and in a derogatory fashion as "Clackers", the last coming from their valve gear, which made a distinctive "clack-clack, clack-clack" noise, which only got worse as the engine grew slack and loose as it was run down between overhauls.
Hi Sam. My favourite locos are mainly the less glamorous types.eg Standard class 9f, LMS Black 5 and small shunters. The "Duke of Gloster" has "British Caprotti" valve gear, which is a gear driven, rotary valve gear. As a personally prefer the correct designation of "Blood & Custard" which is "Carmine & Cream". Well, each to his own. Regards, Alan.
Nice one Sam - but for me one of the best things about running digital is the ability to set realistic and therefore very slow acceleration and deceleration rates, and not have trains suddenly changing speed, which makes them look like toys. With TTS sound this also enables you to just turn the controller to zero, and then use various sounds during the time it takes for the loco to come to a halt - blowing off a bit of steam, and especially the brake squeal just before it stops, is fantastic. And finally, on the whistles it's lovely to use the guard's whistle before starting, then a short whistle as it starts, then a bit off wheel slip, and save the long whistle until it gets up to speed - again, slow acceleration makes that possible - and it makes a great show!
Yes that's understandable, though the acceleration and deceleration times can be adjusted if that's what you want to do! :D Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I like what I see and here. Favorites: A4 (gadwall), 9F, p2 (cock of the north), GWR king class and Duke of Gloucester. Really nice locos with beautiful sound and also there whistles.
I believe there is a cv for volume on most decoders. Also I have found that decoders are not programmed for instant response. I.e., braking and engine the engine need time for default momentum to work. I bought a Mallard DC and added a Digitrax 126 decoder. It stopped on frogs. The solution was to add brass wire pickups to the rear most tender wheels. Soundtraxx Ecomami has UK diesel and steam decoders for about $67. They are tops.
There is indeed William - and these sound way better on lower volume too! Thanks for the tip, I'll have to try one of those! Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Hi Sam , didn't realise you had that many TTS loco's . They are great value for the money and my Gadwall has run trouble free ( touch wood ) . Noticed the front bogie off the rails at 22.28 . Cheers........Peter
Thanks Peter - yes they've definitely crept up over the past couple of years! Absolutely though, great value and great sound - I love them! haha oh yeah, very well spotted - I can't remember if she de-railed or not though! All the best, Sam :)
A superb running session indeed! Certainly noise ;) What I like to hear. Like you say, Hornby really have done a superb job in creating this system for an affordable price. Must say it's got me even thinking about DCC. Never knew that about 'Gadwall' being destroyed in WW2. Just got to love the Crosti ;) Can really see why the Hornby Castle gain such high marks during your review. Superb work indeed, keep up the great work
Hi Callum, thanks so much mate - haha yeah it's a fantastic idea, and they all work really well - I can definitely recommend it! Really glad you enjoyed it, and thanks again for your lovely comment, Cheers, Sam :)
Intriguing setup! Thanks for the demo. My trains took over my dining room table, then the whole room, and crept into the living room, too. Being a musician I really enjoy the sounds. Did I see the TARDIS there? Where's the Doctor, and which incarnation? I have Jon Pertwee. You need a few Darleks, or cybermen 💀
No problem Paul - mines a bit primitive, but I enjoy it up there! haha yeah that's a Tardis... and good idea, I'll have to get some of them ;) Cheers mate, Sam :)
The sound from the 9F is a good combination - both clear and loud, even on YT. Duke of Gloucester - beautiful sound, but it does sound like an American twin horn - I have a sneaky admiration for these lol. Very difficult not to like them all actually. Alan.
Thanks Alan - definitely, the latest TTS locos have had extremely good sound! Really glad you did like them anyway - they're always a (loud) pleasure to run! Cheers mate, Sam :)
It's nice to see large locomotives running the only place I get to run mine is on the abbotskerswell model railway! I love tts it makes a railway so much more realistic the only way to improve is smoke!
Thanks very much - ah well, at least other people can enjoy seeing your locos that way! Yeah that's true - TTS with smoke would be a great improvement! All the best, Sam :)
I think the sounds are great. In fact I had my only sound locomotive running this afternoon (GP40-2). 'Cock 'o the North' has to be my favourite out of the selection; nice green and an interesting name.
Thanks Ian - they are great really, especially for the price! Oh that sounds superb - those are real beasties! Yes the P2 is a lovely looking loco, glad you liked that! Cheers, Sam :)
Just take a look at that gorgeous A4. Just a one of a kind I know a bit of love for the A4s I mean I do enjoy other steam locomotives but I'm sure I ain't the only one who feels the A4s are are just epic. A bit of info for you Sam mate I believe that those guys who built Tornado are in the process of building one of those P2 locomotive 2007 prince of wales. Anyway great running session Sam
I know! Just superb aren't they... and that's Hornby's cheapo A4... still just superb in my opinion! Yes you're right actually - I've heard that there's another P2 on the way... I think someone else might even be building one too - it's fantastic news! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
wow you can see how hornby has made a huge leap here, as personaly i cant hear the difference between dcc sound and tts sound.. yet some dcc engines with sounds are 300 pounds ! why pay that when you can get a dcc running loco with tts sound for 130 pounds :) do you need s special controller to play the sounds or will a standard dcc controller play them

Great video, and idea. I do love tts and DCC on trains, though it is very cool and fun, I feel it can take out the charm of that train being a model. Don't get me wrong I still love digital sound on trains. Great video though, I love that p2 and the new kings class. Great video and keep up the good work

1:57 cheating or the hand of god :-P 3:15 a BR 38, it was my first model train with a motor for a layout. he was in my Starters set. 4:08 is that the Flying Scotsman in the background? 10:58 oh, no I was wrong. 14:41 that wistle is AMAZING!!!! Really nice video!!! I am thinking about buying the Polar Express for H0 from lionel, this will be my first model train with sound (and new one for H0), an engine that is DC but looks like DCC :-D all my H0 trains are second hand xd. my N-scale is a mix of new and second hand. Greetings, -Brian
haha... well I guess it is cheating, haha! Very nice - the 38s are very nice! Thanks a lot for your kind words - glad you liked them! That sounds fantastic mate - I hope you enjoy her! And don't worry - most of mine are second hand too! All the best mate, Sam :)
The TTS sounds really do add a bit of depth and realism. I enjoy listening to them!
Thanks very much Connor, glad you liked them - yes I always enjoy running them too! :D
All the best,

My favourite now is the 4f and the 9f.
Ooh very good choices - those are awesome! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
The teak coaches from Hornby are Somewhat light, so that means that They Can roll backwards sometimes
Yeah that's true, I do tend to add weight to those coaches, when they need it!
Cheers mate,
Sam :)
Sam’sTrains: “What other hobby would give you a lovely P2 like that?”
Me: “Photography?”
Sam,
I have both King Charles II and King Henry III. I installed the TTS Decoder into both of them and love running them. The long whistle while running at an express speed just makes running them even better.
Joe
Hi Joe, that's great to hear - yeah the TTS makes them much more fun! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
great video!
always nice to hear TTS sound loco's!
I always like the big engine's so the duke was my favorite of the day!
Thanks so much - yes I always love running those! Glad you liked that one - it is great! :D
Cheers,

Ahh that's interesting - thanks a lot for the info on the Duck Sixes!
Thanks for watching,

1.I love the sound of all these locomotives
2. I love the sounds they make
3. I love them all
haha me too Chris!! :D
Impressive sounds from those trains I would buy a train or two with sounds like that . Very good.
That king class is very detailed! Good job hornby!
Yes definitely! Well done Hornby! :D
All the best,
Sam :)

Thanks! Really glad you enjoyed it mate!

I wish one of the A4's were repainted into LNER green
Yeah!! Lots of purists don't like that idea - but I'd love to see one like that, just for a while!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
14:00 All quiet, except for the multiple electric motors of the crane & wind turbine.
haha! That's a very good point, lol! ;D

But you forget that P2 2001 and 2002 where later rebuilt with a4 streamlining, and nrs 2003 to 2006 where built with this streamlining.
Yeah that's true - I'd love to see a model of the streamlined version! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
@@SamsTrains If I see a P2 with the A4 streamlining, I commonly mistake it for an actual A4...

were any of the franco crosti 9Fs preserved
I don't think so - I seem to remember they weren't very successful, so it was quite short lived!
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Great video! Lovely locos! Fun fact: In March 1935, GWR King no. 6014 "King Henry VII" was partially streamlined.
Thanks Jacob! Ooh that's very cool - I have heard about some of the GWRs getting streamlined - it's very cool! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)

Thanks for watching,

great video, tts sounds great, will it run on dcc layouts?
Thanks a lot! Yes these run on regular DCC!
Cheers,
Sam :)
wow you can see how hornby has made a huge leap here, as personaly i cant hear the difference between dcc sound and tts sound.. yet some dcc engines with sounds are 300 pounds ! why pay that when you can get a dcc running loco with tts sound for 130 pounds :) do you need s special controller to play the sounds or will a standard dcc controller play them

I like hornby franco crosti 9f and hornby p2
Oh yeah those are both really great models! :D
Thanks for watching,
Sam :)
Your King trumps all the other engines!!!! I absolutely love that engine, I mean WOW!!!!!
A second favorite would be the Fowler 4F 0-6-0, and then the Crosti Boiler 9F, which I think is a VERY unique locomotive. :)
haha it certainly does - just an amazing model really!! :D
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
I have a crosti boiler 9f! I also do reaaallly want a fowler 4f. They’re such, genric locos but so unique.
Love your collection mate. I love collecting model cars. :)
Thanks so much! Ooh that's cool - what sort of cars to you collect?

Thanks for your kind words,

hi Sam can you please do some more servicing video's
Yeah sure - is there any in particular you'd like to see?? :)
Cheers mate,
Sam :)
Lima king class if you have one?
Ahh no I don't have one of those sadly :(
Are there any videos online to show how to do it, maybe??
All the best,
Sam :)
I was wondering if you were gonna do this since you did the latest TTS video
haha yeah - it had to be done really! ;D
All the best,
Sam :)
Also I love how you included the 'GWR way or the wrong way' nice touch indeed
isnt the 4f the trainer steam loco in train sim 2017?
Yes it is you're right - it's quite nice to drive too!
Cheers,
Sam :)
where is the hornby class 40 with tts sound
I think I left that one out - there was only time to run 6! :3
Thanks for watching,

TTS brings life to OO scale railways.
It does actually - I'm a big fan of it!

Sounds very loud for you but still great to see some trains running isn't it
Have you got a headache now
haha, thanks David, yes certainly feeling a little ill after that one ;D
Cheers mate,
Sam :)
I prefer BR blue on A4s. I just don't like the red wheels it dosent go well with the blue.
Thanks Luke, that's fair enough - yeah I'd probably agree with you there actually!
All the best,
Sam :)
Nice video!!
Thanks a lot! :D
Sam'sTrains OMG you replied TYSM YOU MADE MY DAY OMGGG
The 4F is great, the 9F looks the business , the A4 doesn't sound right, the P2 is stylish
Thanks a lot David - I do agree with you there actually! In general they're not too bad for budget sound engines!
Happy New Year,
Sam :)
Great video, and idea. I do love tts and DCC on trains, though it is very cool and fun, I feel it can take out the charm of that train being a model. Don't get me wrong I still love digital sound on trains. Great video though, I love that p2 and the new kings class. Great video and keep up the good work
Hi Rowan, thanks a lot - really glad you like them! I know what you mean though... sometimes it's nice just to have a basic DC model! Thanks again my friend,
Cheers,
Sam :)
Here is a train request: spitfire pulling pullmans
Ooh that's a nice idea - I'll have to try that some time! :D
Cheers mate,

And Do A Whistle Vid :D
Ooh cool idea!! I'll have to try that! :D
Thanks for watching,

Great video Sam, lovely loco's.
By the Way what are you favourite:
Pre-Big 4 Livery
Big 4 Livery
Br Livery
And all time favourite livery
Hmmm... I think Big 4 is my favourite, and I like Malachite green the best!
All the best mate,
Sam :)
they are loud, but they do sound great, does TTE stand for anything?
Thanks Kevin - I've always really enjoyed them! Yes TTS stands for 'Twin-Track-Sound' - I.E it can play a maximum of two audio tracks at a time!
All the best mate,
Sam :)
Thank you for clearing that up
Aren't there sound volume control CVs on these decoders? CV 160?, CV 161?
Hi Andrew, yes there are - I've tweaked the 4F sound, but not gotten around to doing the others - thanks for reminding me on that one!
Cheers mate,
Sam :)
It still puzzles me how the P2 and the 9f can fit around those curves with their long wheelbases 🤔
I agree - a miracle of design! The 9F uses blind axles, which explains that, but the P2 doesn't!
Thanks for watching - Sam :)
Great session Sam. Best? The King by far, she is only one with clanking rods in the sound, and shes the ultimate GWR loco. Whats not to love?
Jon
Hi Jon, thanks so much mate - yes I agree, you just can't beat that king!
Thanks again for watching,
Sam :)
Really enjoyed the running session just found your channel kind regards Rob Johnston
Thanks so much bob, really glad you liked it!
Happy new year,
Sam :)
Is that a fowler 4F
Yes it is, that's right!
All the best,
Sam :)
did you do a review on a bachmann city of truro?
Hi there, no I've never done that one - my City loco is the City of Birmingham, and i have done that one!
All the best,
Sam :)
are you planning to buy one? because there is now one for sale on ebay.

haha yeah, don't worry about it - it's not for everyone... I'm not someone who gets angry about dislikes... who cares?! ;D
Cheers mate,

Very nice demo. What controller are you using and would you recommend it?
Can you do a full speed vidio
Sure! I may have done one already, if you look! :D
Thanks for watching,

Sam can you do a guide for starters in World of Train Models
I want to start mine but i don't know where to start could you give me some tips ?
Absolutely, I have done one - here's the video for you:
