Hey mate, greetings from Western Australia. I bought quite a few records a few years ago but have since inherited several record collections from my Dad, Grandad and a few friends. I try to buy collections at garage sales and at op shops (You yanks call them thrift stores). Record swap meets are another place I often pickup records especially rare ones
Very cool! I was given my dad's collection and my aunt's (ended up keeping a lot more of hers than my dad's). Haven't found many good ones in thrift stores, but I have friends who have scored some pretty amazing deals over the years at those places...
I'm deaf, and I collect records. I've accumulated over 600 records throughout the years. I love the album artwork, and sometimes the interesting "goodies" Inside. I love the posters.
One tip I would give is have a goal for your collection. Basically what do you want your collection to be. It could be as simple as just wanting to add your favorite artist's albums to your Discogs want list and calling it a day. To draw form experience I have a Beatles collection where I buy album variations because my goal is to have a reference collection where I can listen to the differences in mixing and mastering of the same songs.
So very important, and a great point! I think without a goal for your collection, it can end up snowballing into something unmanageable. Goals and limits are hugely important! Thanks for chiming in...
I do not know why people Collect Records, and I do not know why I Collect Records, But I have amassed a collection of approximately 4,000 pieces I have Music from all genres dating back to the forties and up to the current. I guess for me having a small collection is about hearing a song during the day, and at night being able to go home and appreciate the whole album in the evening, but this is my reason for collecting, I buy the music I love. You should buy what you love because your collection says a great deal about who you are and how you feel about yourself.
Next, check out my video where I answer the question: Should you buy vinyl on Amazon? th-cam.com/video/XGyr4ep4haw/w-d-xo.html

Fantastic pointers and ones we generally had to gogyre out on our own over time after getting burned or Uber Edward impulse buys! 🎉
Even though I do my best to follow my own tips, I still succumb to the bad-decision impulse buy relatively frequently *eyeroll*
