    One of my favourite Judas Priest songs, I played this song for some people who didn't listen to metal and they loved it very :-) :-)

    There are several "Live" versions of this song. When you watch the raw emotion Rob puts into the vocals you will have a better appreciation of the lyrics and the meaning behind the music. Just watched the Live At Wacken 2015 version. You can see how the crowd reacts to the emotions the band puts behind the music. Another Live Version from the Epitaph Tour (Which was to be Judas Priest's Final Tour) The Guitarist Glenn Tipton had Parkinson's Disease. Look how he plays one of Priest's most Iconic solo's.

    Classic example of some jackass who built up something to you. This is many Priest fans favorite or top tier song. As a long time fan of Panera, Priest etc. I never once thought of these songs as at all similar.

    I really like this song, but I'm not sure about the Cemetary Gates comparison either. I used to have the cassette version of Unleashed in the East, and it had a great live version of this on it. I was really disappointed when I later bought the CD and the track had been replaced by other stuff! Hopefully you'll have better luck with the next one.

    I dig this song a lot, I think maybe setting it up as a "cemetery gates" was way off, I think if you just heard it without the comparison you would have liked it a lot more,
    I'd suggest the song "dissident aggressor" if you want to contrast or see how close to another band because Slayer actually do a cover version of " dissident aggressor"

    • @hemlock399
      @hemlock399 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Slayer's cover is a pale imitation, IMO.

    I love this song. I saw it on the Painkiller tour. It was cool to see especially Halford belt the high notes. I’d prefer people didn’t make comparisons like that. It’s not Cemetery Gates and giving you that thought totally changes how you view the song. So hopefully that doesn’t happen too often so you can view songs with a clean slate and not have pre expectations based on comparisons that may not be valid. Glad you checked it out though.

    Well the only thing this song is in common with face to black is the way the song is modeled. It starts off acoustic and then the riff kicks in and then it goes back acoustic and then back to riff again. Then by the end of both songs it speeds up with a guitar solo at the end. Lyrics and vocals are totally different. Now whoever said cemetery gates is totally wrong.

    I agree with you. I'm not a fan of Panteta, but when you said someone said this song was cemetery gates before cemetery gates, i was shaking my head saying who thinks that. I just listened to Cemetery gates after watching this, and I must admit that I kind of liked it. But I do like this song better. Must be my age. Went to high school in the early 80's

  • @hemlock399
    @hemlock399 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Songs should be judged on their own merits with an open mind. It was a mistake for someone to set your expectations by comparing it to other metal classics that you already love. For your own sake, please be sure to give it a fair listen without the expectations. Keep in mind that it was released in '78.
    My personal favorite from this album is "Saints in Hell".

    I heard this song for the first time back in the mid 80's. Then I listened to it again over and over and over. Epic song with epic meaning. I would pick this song over Cemetery Gates a million times. I love Cemetery Gates, but I love this song much better.

    ...also with these great JP classics. Generally they take a few listens till the vibe really sinks in.
    Hearing a (any) song on 1 pass is only taking it in at a surface level. So much more depth when you 'know' the songs. Im speaking to to you as 1 guitarst muso to another, and im sure you already know thiscwith the songs you do know. And theres even more depth when they start to hold memories that mark a time in your life, of where you were, what you were doing, who you were with, etc.
    You like priest clearly. Trust some of these older guys opinions, weve mostly all been around this era of priest for 40 odd years, and many of us are musos too ...and were inspired by glenn tiptons guitar and robs vocals too.
    You will have your own favourites, as we all do, but if you absorb into the classics and listen to them over and over again, the ones that are recommended by the long time fans. It will narrow out alot of the less great songs.
    The ones being recommended really are the best. Make yourself a couple of 20 song playlists of these recommendation. And you will find many faves of your own in there.
    Give it some tine to sink in man ...and have fun with it. You will even collect memories just by rockin these playlists for some time.

    Way better than Cemetery Gates or anything Pantera as ever done, and I like Pantera.

      naaahhh that's not accurate. Also they can both be good. So far stuff I've heard from Priest is really cool I like it. I just think comparing this to Cemetery Gates is off.

      definitely which is crazy I just never listened to them or Maiden. What I've heard of Priest so far is really awesome. Maiden.. meh.. maybe not for me.

  • @collinnicholasns

    I understand the feeling that expectations were set too high, that happens that's why I try not to compare things because I may interpret it differently. I like the honesty reaction, it's a great song and a must listen to anyone who appreciates Judas Priest, but it's not really cemetery gates and that's ok.

  • @mikevandenboom5958
    @mikevandenboom5958 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    you don't have to like. they have lots more you will like.
    this isn't one of my fav's either.
    even your favourite band's have songs you don't think are great .
    sometimes they have to put the stuff that hits the floor on the album just to fill it up.

  • @jonmallek7746

    I guess it's what you grow up listening to. For me Beyong the Realms of Death is a vastly superior song. Cemetery gates is great but I can't even compare it with JP's classics, not in the slightest
