Robin Williams said it best - the only thing worse than being alone is being with people who make you feel alone. This was my now ex-wife who I let use and emotionally abused me far too long till I got the strength to divorce her - and yet I still miss her 7 months later even after she ghosted me for the last 18 months of our marriage. I will be weak for women no more!

The idea of a single "soul mate" isnt actually biblical. There isnt a single person God has called you to be with. There are many people who love God and would be someone you could have a God honoring relationship with. I that isnt something I would worry about. The concept of "oh but what if I chose the wrong one and God actually had someone else for me" is not a question I will ever ask. If I marry a woman, that's it, that's who im meant to be with. Because I make that commitment in marriage.

Spend the last 6 years alone - I only have a friend now…and for the 1st time in my life, I don’t feel used! It is balanced! So, I am sure it will happen with a partner as well! Learned to do and enjoy things alone: bought a house and celebrated with a champagne ( yeah, just me), went to restaurant alone, to movie alone, a lot of diy alone- love it! Remember to be careful people. When you walk in contentment and lose the fear of being alone, you will suddenly find yourself getting a lot more attention than usual. Now your fear ought to be fearing choosing the wrong one, this is where prayer for confirmation comes in and is helpful. Always compare a potential boyfriend or girlfriend to biblical descriptions of good character. Remember to be weary of those who flatter and those who say one thing and behave differently. I have been so isolated! I have chosen it. As a single mom with 3 little boys, my focus was totally on raising them for the Lord and developing in my calling to full time ministry. Their dad left when my youngest two (twins) were babies. He was no longer apart of our lives and I chose never to date, have social life or anything. My sons are now 32 and 33. I haven't made friends or dated still at 62. I just retired but to pursue the calling I've known God gave me. I never felt lonely or any desire to remarry until recently. I'm afraid of it yes but the desire is beginning and crashes into my thoughts at random times. I have been clear that I never ever wanted to remarry but here I am kind of dancing around the thought.

Then he cheated and God gave me the strength to leave. I have been single for 4 years because I know the feeling of loneliness while being with the wrong person which did more harm to my self confidence. The deep dependence is better through God. I remember my counselor mentioned ‘why fear being alone, if I cannot stand being with myself how can I expect someone else to stand being with me. I have to learn to live with myself for the rest of my life! I am not afraid of being alone at all, and I'm very much content in God and confident in god more than anything. I'm also serving the lord the best that I can. and God completes me, all of us, really, and not people. I have been single for 22 years, and I've been in situationships (crushing relationships) and I've feared abandonment because I was abandoned as a child, and I once feared rejection, but I don't fear those things anymore. I said enough to those fears long ago and I'm still saying enough to those fears to this day.

I am very impressed with this video. Very very few pastors, priests, prophets, etc share this perspective. But it is true. God picks a partner in you that will push every single one of your buttons, and a few you didn't know about. You will be tested in the most wounded area of your heart. You will fail to be Christlike. You will be driven to prayer. There you will find the Cross. THAT and only that will bring the grace needed to overcome. I am in that time myself. God has revealed to me who my partner will be, and I am terrified. I hate it!!!

Hey Mark, this was another timely video. Thanks!
You know I'm a supporter, but I think there are some topics which may need less of a list and more of personal account to get the point across. Many who follow you know that you were married while still very young and have children too. An older person who is still single in their 30's or 40's may think that you have no experience in what you're talking about and have no clue what real loneliness is like. As a pastor I'm sure you've ministered too and learned a lot from the people you've ministered too over the years, so maybe recounting some of that would be helpful. Also, perhaps you could ask for some interaction from your viewers as to what their experience of loneliness is as that would be edifying and informative for us all.
As somebody who lived a long time abroad, I think the Christian community fails to be an available, perceptive and responsive source of encouragment for those who are struggling in this area, We must be a visible and tangible and use our knowledge (and that of others) alonside empathy and compassion.
God bless! More ministers need to cover these topics for the benefit of the Body of Christ.

I have stayed away from relationships for years now and I'm 37 and I want to be married and I want kids but I just always have a fear that I'm going to meet the wrong person and that they may take advantage of me or be a bad person pretending to be a nice person. I've had it happen so many times. I always have to tell the guy goodbye and block them cuz they won't stop calling after I realize that they're not right for me. No sex is involved it's just a bunch of weirdos that are unequally yoked with me.

What about serving someone out of love, only to realize that it wasn’t appropriate? Yes I totally agree that serving others brings love towards others, but I hesitate greatly to give due to loosing friendships. Happened to me twice and I still don’t understand why? It was extremely painful when you loved deeply, only to find it end rejection. Though both relationships have been restored, yet I will never give to them like I used to. If I give it’s healthy to give small.
Br Mark, would you be interested in doing a teaching on this? You have tremendously helped me in relationships already. I came from a background of not having close relationships. In my late teens and twenties I’ve had so much trouble in relationships.

Right now I am talking to somebody I met online (on an app I met decent people on, Christian target group and so forth). I don't really feel head over heels about it, pretty laid back actually and I feel he has the same approach about it. Being interested in a person is just enough for now. I am pretty excited to see where this is going but I would say, I am so so very okay if it might not work out for whatever reason. Trying to be as decent and respectful about the heart and life of that person by praying for our meetings, relaxing and just being myself, honoring boundaries, and being open about the pace it might take... Because in fact, my foundation would be: I am okay to be on my own and I have a goal and stuff to do in the kingdom of God, so I am not bored if I have nobody to talk to. But if God decides that this is what he wants to gift me (and I had enough time to talk about what my wishes are and enough time to prep myself), I am going to believe that this would be his best and I would give myself fully to it, not wanting to keep a loophole to back out for FOMO. Your video just triggered those thoughts. Keep on doing what you do, brother!

Although I agree with everything said, as I typically do with AGW. The question I have in regard to the first point is: How? How can one be okay with being alone if the staying alone is causing them to fear it even more? It’s almost like a Catch-22. You cant have it until i’m okay without it, but I can’t be okay without until I have it. This creates a constant tension of wanting to pursue but feeling like you can’t. So how do you not want a relationship so badly that you can actually pursue one in a healthy way?

I always think that if its part of God's will for me to be in a romantic relationship with someone and wants me to share with someone then He will make a way for that to happen, if not, then I trust Him and his plan for me. I love being alone as its where I thrive the most.... But I'd also love to spend the rest of my days with a man who loves me the way God created me and who wants to share in life, support in life, and serve God in life as well. Plus its a girl's dream to have her father walk her down the isle one day, my dad has a hard time walking these days so I'm praying for it to happen soon for that reason, but I do trust in the Lord's timing as it is perfect.
