I am so glad you are finally putting a pieris in your garden..... I absolutely love them.... I have multiple types in my front and back beds and they are without a doubt my favorite shrub as they have all your interest. So excited to watchers grow 🪴 Happy birthday ❤ we love you ❤
My silver flame pieris I got this past spring is (probably) the only plant I killed this year :( It has one small branch left thats alive, but has slowly died back since beginning of August. I think it did not get enough watering. I really loved it.
My parent's garden had a Piers japonica. It was definitely in the top three plants I wanted to put in my own yard someday. For some reason, I never did plant one in my yard for the past 32 years. Well, this summer, I finally did plant one. Given that the Great Missoula Flood deposited bolders, rocks, and gravel where I live, I can't use augers. I wished I could at least use one for bulb planting, but even three decades of soil amendment and mulching hasn't gotten rid of rock (the rocks and pebbles work their way to the surface in a matter of months). Oh well, I persever and garden on, though it gets more difficult as we age through a 7th decade. Happy Birthday!
