Couple DIY comments and personal discoveries. 1. Great video. I like this DIY version the best! 2. Instead of using a worm weight, try an old school bullet weight. Nip the brass loop off of it and slide it on instead. Super cheap. The radius on bottom and the cone on top almost never snags. The recess in the bottom of the weight it perfect for the retaining bend. Thanks!
thanks for watching and dropping some feed back! I actually have another video that goes through different weights. My favorite one so far is a slim cylindrical finesse carolina rig weight. It fits this wire that i use, unlike the VMC tokyo rig, which the wire is way too thick. let me know if you get a chance to see it. i bought them at jannsnetcraft. here's a link to the product! www.jannsnetcraft.com/fishing-sinkers/345490.aspx let me know what you think about those ;)
no problem man! i haven't gotten to how to fish it but when the ice melts i'll be sure to show it off in different situations around my area :) thx for watching ^_^
oh yell yeah man! especially in rocky structures. i have an idea on how to bend the wire, custom wire length and weight placement to make it even less in the rocky areas.
believe it or not, i have used the Jika rig for Summer Flounder, the smaller version of the Halibut. So yeah it'll certainly work! Thx and i can't wait for that video to come!
I love the Jika rig, so I can certainly see how the Tokyo Rig will work. I'll be using this rig a few times this year to make another video that talks more about it fo sho but yeah man Gamas are the best ^_^
You would compare this to a powershot rig rather than drop shot, same rig but super short. the pros for the tokyo rig is that there isn't line twist, the wire doesn't tangle with the other line or hook or lure. and it have a bit more tension when you let it sit on the bottom, even if your line is a bit slack.
I believe people do. i like mine thin because i don't use Cone weights as my weight. Look at my other video as i talk through the weights i use for Tokyo Rigs
This is great idea. i looked up ebay and didnt find 0.3mm stainless steel wires.most of them comes with spool of stainless steel wires. I looked for stainless steel striaght wires.
Ebay! i left links in the desc! note these are thinner than what VMC uses, but it's plenty strong and I actually use special carolina slim weights and it's so much more weedless than using other weights. looks like a slim cylindrical drop shot weight when done!
I’ve sort of made a rig similar meant to be a low dropshot. Instead of wire for the weight I used a short piece of heavy mono. Whats the difference by using wire, better feel?
I have done low drop shots before too, then i moved to the Jika rig, and now to this! You are absolutely correctly. Also the loop allows the lure to swing a lot better, and if you have a swivel, it will have less line twists. thx for watching!
Just wondering if you (or anyone else) has experimented with different length leaders for the weight. Is there an advantage of having it closer (one inch) or further from the hook (like 5 inches)
I prefer it short! In fact I make em long as my cylinder weights so it is like a jika rig. If I want it longer I just use mono and make a power shot rig. Aka a short drop shot rig
I wouldn't see anyone do such a thing tho. So I would say no. Trout Magnet is about finesse. This rig would make it too bulky. Fish the trout Magnet on a tiny jig is the way to go
i haven't found a need to change my hook. either a toothy critter taken it or a horrible snag gone wrong. but if it benefits you, i say it's a good idea :)
I buy mine online from ebay. I have left links to the pliers and wires within my video's description. Thx for watching, let me know if I can help you with anything else!
that seems thin as .30 inch is equivalent to 7.62 mm. but i can see some benefits using thinner wires as it will bend out when you snag something. maybe try something ab it thicker but thinner than 7?
Nice vid buddy!!! Lmao all I can tie is a clinch knot hahaha. Tight lines bro and great tutorial! If you haven't yet, come checkout my latest upload when you can.
thx mate! i'll take the time to put another video that talks more about how to fish it and the pros of using this over a drop shot. you can certainly use a dropshot to do something similar, but because of the wire vs line, there is actually something that is really different there! Thx for watching and stay tuned ;)
Just putting it on how it was advertised. But its versatile and you can do it however you want. There are pros and cons on which ever way you choose... pointing down is a punching method
Thanks for putting-out this video. I was able to make my own, and I think better, Tokyo Rig, with the help of your instruction!
Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it!

Sup Jimmy. Amazing rig. And easy. Learned another rig love it. Ty tc
it's easy for sure, but i still prefer the Jika rig up to today!
@@rawrfishing jika rig🤔. Gonna watch for that. Going to make Tokyo rig tommorow lol.
Just tie on a Jika LOL
@@rawrfishing will look for it. Made one like yours wasn't perfect. But 2nd one👍 . Going to use this afternoon. Tc
Awesome!!!!!!!Thank you for the video.
Glad you liked it!
I love small mouth fishing, I know it must be effective, thank you for sharing I gotta make a few of these!
Check out my jika rig tutorial too! Great for smallies
Another excellent DIY vid Jimmy. Very helpful, thanks
Thx man! I can't wait for better weather and perfect fishing season to use this rig. Gotta do a how to fish the tokyo rig next! ;)
Awesome how to!! Going to make some this weekend.
thx man! great! what size hooks you planning to make? i may end up making some smaller ones this week for some finesse fishing, like size 2/0 or 3/0
I was going to go with some 3/0 hooks.
Good choice! that's a pretty much average size hook for most bass lures!
Thanks for sharing👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻gotta try this rig! So many applications
no problem man! i haven't gotten to how to fish it but when the ice melts i'll be sure to show it off in different situations around my area :) thx for watching ^_^
Good video. Now I can make my own Tokyo rigs!👍🏾
yes sir! let me know if you how you end up doing ^^ thx for watching!
Useful .. good fishing tutorial, my friend
Thanks for the love ^_^
Very helpful. Thanks
Glad you have found it useful!
Great job going to make those today 👍
thx mate! let me know how you do on them :)
Me too!
Very nice... Great demonstration
Thx Ralph! do the river by you freezes up this time of the year? Wanna see if you got any secret weapons stashed away in your tackle box ;)
Neat evolution of the jika rig...I can see some fluke potential here!
oh yell yeah man! especially in rocky structures. i have an idea on how to bend the wire, custom wire length and weight placement

Great video, keep up the awesome content
thx! hope this will catch u some awesome fish ^^
Great video ! I will try make it and catch halibut
believe it or not, i have used the Jika rig for Summer Flounder, the smaller version of the Halibut. So yeah it'll certainly work! Thx and i can't wait for that video to come!
Gamakatsu hooks are my favorite too! I might try this out someday to see what the hype is all about.

Great tutorial! I bought the 8" stainless steel wire so I could make 2 from each piece. It was only like $1 more over the 6"
Thx and Nice man, you can make two rigs out of those ^_^
Where did you buy the straight stainless steel wire from
where did u buy the wire?
@@kevinglowicki1942 the links are in the description
What size wire? What gage wire? Where did you get the wire?
Hi! The a seed to your questions are in the description below! Cheers 🥂
Would you say this rig has an advantage over drop shot? Just seems like it rewuires more work and more equipment to make.
Can you use that wire they use for marking lines and such
I believe people do. i like mine thin because i don't use Cone weights as my weight. Look at my other video as i talk through the weights i use for Tokyo Rigs
This is great idea. i looked up ebay and didnt find 0.3mm stainless steel wires.most of them comes with spool of stainless steel wires. I looked for stainless steel striaght wires.
Thx man! You can use spools of wires. These hack doesn't require straight ones! I do a lot of tutorials so I guess ppl bought them out lol
Where did you get them wire?

@@rawrfishing Cool man. I will try making Tokyo rigs. I feel like it'll be deadly for the smallies around my area. Thanks!
i bet it would slay them! jika rig been doing so for me (as shared in the video) :)
Excellent video, where do you get the wire bend pliers. Thanks
Thx, Amazon is where it is at. Check for the link in the desc

When I click on the link to order the wire in the description it just takes me to eBay it doesn’t show what to buy
It is likely no longer available. Let me see if I can find something different that is similar. Thanks for letting me know!
I have updated the desc, it should have something similar. there should be two Ebay links and one from amazon
You can buy the stainless wire with loop already made and 4” long from Lurecraft 100 ct for 7 bucks.
Oh wow! Nice find man! Thx for sharing
@@rawrfishing I looked at lurecraft but the shipping was 13 bucks on top of the order!!! Crazy so I didn't buy them of course. What a ripoff
@@lakrabid I didn't look lol. I like what I used ^_^
Where can I buy the wire
Ebay or fishing DIY stores. Check the description for the links
I used a split ring for the loop so I can change the hook out when needed
i haven't found a need to change my hook. either a toothy critter taken it or a horrible snag gone wrong. but if it benefits you, i say it's a good idea :)
Good tutorial. I think I am gonna have to try that, cant seem to find the Tokyo Rig here.
Thx man! yeah that seems like the trend around here. Sold out everywhere! that can only mean one thing, it works! :P thx for watching!
Where do you find the stainless wire?
I buy mine online from ebay. I have left links to the pliers and wires within my video's description. Thx for watching, let me know if I can help you with anything else!
Great job! Where did you buy the .030 wire?
thx man, i got mine from ebay but you can find it at craft fishing stores too. Check the description below. I left a link on where i bought mine.
Yeah...I just saw that you had it listed on the description below! Oh well, thanks for the vid!
yep, have fun! those wires are great for many other applications too
Is a 1.2 mm thick wire alright? Great vid👏
that seems thin as .30 inch is equivalent to 7.62 mm. but i can see some benefits using thinner wires as it will bend out when you snag something. maybe try something ab it thicker but thinner than 7?
raWr Fishing Didn’t you use .03 inch? 7mm i pretty thick, almost a cm hahah
.03 inch is .76 mm. As a European that uses the metric, this seems more right. A 7 mm wire is really thick.
@@nsmith7192 sorry I didn't have my coffee yet. The wire was .03 inches haha. I think depending on weights and hook of the eye, 1.2mm might be thick
raWr Fishing Thanks!
Love the video But I need to find that ruler.
Thx man! That's that New Rapala Retractable Ruler: amzn.to/2RPYpzU
this is one great rig everyone should have at least one on there boat #EastTnFishing423
a total must or at least the oldschool jika rig :P
Thank God for FF
What is ff?
А кто мешает поставить заводное кольцо на соединение самоделки?
Sorry bud, I tried using Google Translate to English but it didn't come out well.
0.03 mm ?? I think you meant 0.30 thats very thin and bendable. O.80 mm is better i think
Inch maybe? Old video... Don't remember, but I should have portrayed the product package
Nice vid buddy!!! Lmao all I can tie is a clinch knot hahaha. Tight lines bro and great tutorial! If you haven't yet, come checkout my latest upload when you can.
