Indy is going to get a team soon. Their USL franchise has done well. They are already building a nice, new soccer specific stadium. With the success of cities like Nashville, Cincy, and St. Louis the Midwest looks like a good bet to get more teams.
Louisville City FC. Big built-in rivalies with Cincinnati and St Louis. Already has a stadium, one of the highest fan attendance in the lower leagues. Has had success in open cup vs MLS. Hosted the first ever nationally broadcast USL game on CBS. Would be the only Major League team in the state of Kentucky.
If I could pick the 31st and 32nd expansion teams, I would choose Oakland on the west and Pittsburgh on the East. Oakland is in the process of losing their baseball team the Oakland A's to Las Vegas in a really tragic tale. They lost their basketball team when the Golden State Warriors moved next door to San Francisco in 2019. It's a big market with great fans that got mismanaged to death. Technically the San Jose Quake are in the same region but they are far enough away to not be adopted by most people in Oakland. Pittsburgh is a great sports town with big teams in the NFL, NHL, and MLB. They are known for great fanbases, and the city falls inbetween the two Ohio teams and the east coast teams. That would fit a regional void nicely.
If California gets another team, will be in Sacramento. And in the east, before Pittsburg, these cities will get a franchise first: Indianapolis, Detroit, Tampa or Louisville.
Having grown up in San Diego, very excited to hopefully catch a game sometime when I'm back home visiting. As for other exansion teams - I live within walking distance of where the Tampa Bay Rowdies play, so I'd love to see them move up to MLS. I doubt it will happen, though, since we already have Orlando City just over an hour away. Plus, they'd have to fully renovate Al Lang Stadium, which seems like a stretch on top of the franchise fees.
For expansion I would like to see Vegas and Tampa. Vegas lights didn’t do so well last season and I’m not sure about their attendance but seems like MLS team there would work a lot more. Tampa Bay rowdies are a great classic American team and I would love to see them in the MLS considering there’s other mls teams that predate the MLS itself.
To get to 32 teams there would need to be one in each division, one in the East and one in the West. I've always wondered why Pittsburgh has never been interested in having an MLS club given the city's sporting tradition.
I would love to have the Richmond kickers in the mls, we have a good attendance and fanbase, plus we don't have any major sports team and I would never make myself support nova or dc
@@discoveringmls time will tell. So far Cincy didn't change colors, but did rebrand. And, in my opinion, the current crest is alright. The old one was more fun, but their new one is inoffensive. Then San Diego is completely different than the loyal were, and Saint Louis is also completely different. I will admit that SLC is a little better than what SLFC was, but San Diego is a big step down.
@AHomelessShoe yeah, I agree bud. The Cincy brand is cool, I like the colors. STL seems to have got all the old fans on board which I think is key. I wonder if this is common?
Its inevitable that it'll reach 32 teams if so then it will be Indy and Las Vegas. Its likely it'll cap at 36. If so next teams will be Phoenix, Detroit, and Tampa Bay. The likely 36th team would be Sacramento but California already has 4 teams. San Antonio too, but Austin is only an hour drive so the area would be saturated. The cities that would make sense but money is at issue. Are Pittsburgh where there is a big sports tradition and would have a great rivalry with Philly Union (an excellent team). Where I would love a 36th franchise to go just because it's an amazing city, unique in culture is New Orleans.
After San Diego FC makes its MLS debut as the 30th team next season, maybe Calgary Sports and Entertainment, British soccer legend-turned Inter Miami CF majority owner David Beckham and Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis, Memphis Grizzlies owner Robert Pera, Fenway Sports Group, who owns MLB’s Boston Red Sox, the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins, and the Premier League’s Liverpool FC, and the Rooney family, who owns the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina Hurricanes owner Thomas Dundon, Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney, and Real Madrid CF president Florentino Perez, and Spurs Sports & Entertainment, former Spurs player David Robinson, and Everton FC majority owner Farshad Moshiri, will each pay an expansion fee of $500 million to award 6 MLS clubs to Calgary, Las Vegas, Memphis, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, and San Antonio to begin play in 2027, 2028, and 2028 MLS seasons.
Calgary, won't be one. No more Canadian teams can join the MLS, read about it. Vegas (Yes), Memphis, Pittsburg and Raleigh (No), and San Antonio (Maybe). True potential cities besides Vegas are Indianapolis, Sacramento, Phoenix, Detroit, Tampa and Louisville.

@@discoveringmlsDefinitely, though we often get overlooked due to being right next to the States lol. The success of the CMNT and the World Cup coming (at least partially) to Canada could be the big catalyst that we need. Already in Vancouver we've broken our home-opener and regular season attendance due to Messi coming this season, and with the price being 350$ for the Messi game or 400$ for the whole season, most may as well take the better deal. The coming of the big stars really is powerful.
@@discoveringmlsAs a part owner of DCFC, if MLS puts a team in Detroit that is NOT DCFC, there will be a genuine hatred and animosity for that club. DCFC is without question Detroit's soccer team. Strong case for this! Sounds like a ready-made option
There definitely going to do a Vegas one
Yeah, looking very likely now - I hope the Lights continue
I feel like Las Vegas Phoenix San Antonio and Detroit are likely. Maybe 2 now and 2 at some point later
I think you’re right, they’re certainly the most likely right now. Would be interesting to see if another club makes a big push

Wow, that’s so sad for Oakland, it seems so unfair to take teams away. The USL team has great shirts too!
I would prefer to see new mls teams in non usl markets or at least in a USL market that’s most likely going to fold anyway.
I think Indy deserves one of the next two, and it’s more likely to be Las Vegas (or Sacramento gets another shot) before Oakland.
If California gets another team, will be in Sacramento. And in the east, before Pittsburg, these cities will get a franchise first: Indianapolis, Detroit, Tampa or Louisville.

Cool! SD has the chance to be something really fresh, a lot like STL did
As an Orlando fan, we need the 1-4 Derby back. We only play the Rowdies in friendlies and the occasional Open Cup match.
The Richmond Kickers should be in the MSL. They have a deep history as a championship team.
That’s a new one to me - need to do some research 🧐

Yeah, totally agree for those reasons too. I think both would be huge successes
4 East/4 West -> Vegas - Sacramento - Indianapolis - Phoenix - Detroit - Tampa - Louisville - San Antonio
Tampa Bay. The rowdies need a promotion.
They’d be a great fit 👍
I thought they submitted their plan years ago for consideration.
I was hoping for Phoenix, maybe next year….love your channel btw
Phoenix would be cool! Maybe if they go up to 40! Thank you bud! 😁

Yeah, I bet they would have great fans
Tanpa Bay Rowdies need to be in the mls.
They certainly seem set up for it
Hopefully Phoenix, then maybe I’ll have a reason to get invested in MLS since I could actually go to games
I think Phoenix has the right creds to make a big impact
I would love to have the Richmond kickers in the mls, we have a good attendance and fanbase, plus we don't have any major sports team and I would never make myself support nova or dc
It does have huge history - would be a great addition
You're over 1k!!!!!
Yes, Cliff!! Thank you to you! Really appreciate all your support mate
If the lights get brought in, the league will kill the weird vibe they have.
Ah, I hope not, they’re so great!

What.
MLS really must not expand the current league, they should start an entire second league with promo and relegation.
