    I,am 81and only recently 'found' Tuba Skinny on TH-cam and have been completely captivated and consider this band to be the best in their genre which I have followed since the 1950's. I have asked myself why and this is the best I can cum up with. Firstly the latest line up are all excellent musicians , and most of those employed in the past, the band have an amazing repertoire which helps maintain spotaneity, lost by most bands by over practice and repietitious concert content . Just watch T S' s different presentations of the same time, there never the same. The bands rhythm section drive the band on with many interesting variations and the front three interplay is so excellent being moving or exciting as the tune / mood demands, they always get it right. However the main thing is the lack of pretentiousness and the obvious appreciation of each others efforts and they have the wonderfully and supremely talented Shayne.

      I am "only" 75 years old but I completely agree with you. Magnificent repertoire, for many of the 1920s and 1930s, which shows that music has no age limit. Ten albums to their credit, with 143 tracks, I can't get enough of them. As soon as I get a little blues, hop! Tuba Skinny and it's back on! Hi from France.

    • @baxter5431
      @baxter5431 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I hate to be nit picky but the music goes back further than 1914, which is 100 years now. Goes back to the end of the 19th Century, about the 1880's or mid 1890's. This music was already being played when Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong was born in New Orleans around the turn of the 20th Century. Regardless, you are totally right in stating that this music is just as relevant now as back then. Proof of something being great & for all time.

      For one thing, check out the recorded interviews of Jelly Roll Morton done in the 1930's & the interviews of Eubie Blake. Blake was there when it was all beginning & even met Scott Joplin. Blake's first piece was composed, as he says not written, before 1900.

      He and Ewan Bleach here on sax trade of which reed it is that they play. Ewan was so happy with Jon’s solo. Usually, Jon on sax and Ewan on clarinet..
