- Army Men: Sarge's Heroes is a third-person shooter video game developed and published by The 3DO Company for Nintendo 64, PlayStation, Dreamcast and Microsoft Windows. The player normally controls Sarge, a Sergeant in the Green Army and fights evil General Plastro and the members of the Tan Army. Both armies are named after the usual colours of toy army men. The game's storyline is somewhat dark, partly because of General Plastro's killings.

Army Men Sarges Heroes review on the nintendo 64. Recorded using a dazzle and on original real console hardware and game cartridge.
The tanks still are scary to me especially on the first level when it come out behind the building was the scariest thing I'be ever seen.
haha yeah that was an awesome moment in gaming
Omfg this brings back the best memories
YES!!!! I never related to a stranger on the internet more 😂😂😂
Whats crazy about it is it only takes 2 bazooka shots but in difficulty it takes 5 Also In PS1 you can actually drive a tank
Helicopters were my fear.
This was a classic and at first glance back in the late 90's I thought it was a spin off from Toy Story when I saw my friend shooting tan army soldiers in the kitchen. lol
Lieutenant Yoshi yeah i think a lot of people did! its an easy thing to do!
I wish they would do a reboot of this game. It was a load of fun.
Remaster would be great would be nice thought if brought 3DO back assuming that company retired, to be honest I dunno what happened but it would be nice if they'd bring it back 4th one make it feel like 1 and 2.
I loved the Army Men games, I love them all; who is with me that they should make a modern day Army Men game series with possibly an animated series somewhere on TV or something?
24 +Portal Runners.
No problem.
There is a new game on Stream called Mean Green Plastic Warfare that is heavily inspired by Sarge's Heroes.
+Randy Rhodes Here here !!!
Played this one a lot as a rental. The multiplayer was fun!
Thank you for treating this game as if it is a master piece unlike some other reviewers call it complete crap, this is one of my favorite games. P.S i am still stuck on the mission to safe Riff its pretty hard for me.
+Lt. DizzyNoodles everyone had their own opinions but I for one enjoyed it!
Thanks.
This is also a game of my childhood that I loved a lot and still do, but you must admit that the game has a lot of technical problems like laughable AI, various bugs and such. Doesn't mean that the game is unplayable or awful, but I wouldn't call it a masterpiece even though I really love that game
I have been trying to use cheats but it has not worked for me yet, when i put in a cheat code does nothing.
Lt. DizzyNoodles I agree I still love this game thought it was a great title for the N64
4 player split screen for this game was insane
I literally had a line in my house waiting to play the multiplayer
I remember being horrified in the PC version of the first level, my men dying around me as I try to survive the Tan attack for the first time. That part was pretty well done.
One thing I’ve always loved about the game was how accurate the models were to the actual toys. I had these army men growing up and playing them in a game was an experience for many like myself. These games need to make a comeback
All the plastic army men games on N64 used to be my jam !! Loved all of them. Sarges Heroes 1&2 + Air Combat which I thought was a cool twist. My favorite character in Sarges Heroes 1&2 was Scortch the flamethrower guy XD
The theme song alone in Sarges Heroes 1 is such a powerful nostalgia trip in itself..... let alone the actual game !
This was me and my cousins' favourite game growing up! Countless hours, sleepovers, late nights, early mornings.
just bought a n64 and this was one of the games i wanted to replay to take me back to my childhood
This is the shooter I remember my cousins and I would play before Halo. So many great memories with 4-player 64 games
its amazing how many people have great memories of these games
This and it's sequel were two of my childhood favorites! Nice video on Sarge's Heroes 1!
One of my favourite shooters on the n64
many people feel the same way too - definitely one for fans of the console to play
I played this for hours when I was younger loved it!!
C H I never owned a copy of this videogame cartridge or its sequel; also, I never owned a copy of Battle Tanx , Harvest Moon, Jet Force Gemini, Blast Corps, Space Station Silicon Valley, StarCraft 64, etc.
It's hard not to love this game for the charm alone. It definitely stood out at the time of release for it's quirkiness, which still sets it apart from the rest of the library. I loved the different weapons and really found myself getting immersed in the world. When you look at the kitchen levels, it's hard not to think that something like Katamari Damacy may have taken a page from the Army Men book as inspiration.
I played Sarges heros as a wee lad on my PS1. So many good memories with this game. I didnt have a memory card so I would replay all the levels all the way until either the bathroom or the minefield level and never made it past there. The multiple player was also amazing and brings me even more fond memories.
Omg my cousin, brother and I used to get into Fist fights over the flamethrower in the Multiplayer lol
When this is at least a complete game compared to today's games. Sad.
We had so much fun doing 4 player split-screen multiplayer! We ended up figuring how to roll inside of the toilet on the bathroom multiplayer level, how to roll inside of the wall on the town level, and how to roll down into the ocean on the island level.
This game was very influential. Cartoonish open world 3rd person shooter with Aim Down Sight. It oozed style and charisma, with jokes and breaking the third wall. Classic shooter
The cutscenes were so exciting when i played this as a kid, just the overall art direction was so good
So many memories of this game, my brother and I had a tricky time with the single player mode but most of my memories are of the multiplayer. We would always have "Flame Wars" where both players cannot fight until they pickup the flamethrower and turn their opponent into a puddle of melted plastic haha. Just recently I picked up a copy of this game and have been enjoying a lot since
lol me and my bro would play multiplayer and on the kitchen level he'd snipe me almost every time I'd spawn in like an asshole lol but still had good times
my dad had one of these growing up and allowed me and my sister play it back in 2012 when we were just 7 and 8. my first ever shooting game and it definitely brings back memories. how nostalgic.
I loved this game to death back in the day. Brings me great joy to see videos like this one.
KniveLing ill try to cover the third and final army men game on n64 soon ;)
This made me wanna join the military when I was a kid. And like at me now lol.
Thank you for the great review. I used to really love this game as a kid. I wish i knew how to play it today.
Pick it up again and put some hours into it - still very fun!
I remember playing this one at a friend's house on PS1 and having a blast with it, but never paying any mind to the franchise otherwise, until your Army Men: Air Attack review came up. Since then, I've started playing that game and I should replay this one as well.
my cousins used to come from out of country, and on the hot summer day... this was a go to game to pass these hot days by.
I remember when I was a kid I would play this fame for hours on end, until someone else wanted the TV, then I'd go get my actual toy soldiers and set them up like the kitchen scenes. Goddamn I miss being 5 (or however old I was playing this). Definitely glad my dad kept the 64 around for me and my sister.
Hey, Glenn. Thanks for taking the time to sit down and review a good childhood classic for me. A lot of people dog on the AM games, and I feel that (while most are fairly mediocre) they're not poorly made, and deserve a lot more attention. I'd love to sit down with you some time and discuss a few more in detail. Would you be opposed to having a dual-person review done on your channel sometime?
I loved this game so much. My cousins and I would play it every holiday. I definitely need to pick it up and play through it again. Thanks!
thanks for watching and yes make sure you play it!
2:47 the tutorial area was so well done.
Classic right
I found like 28 different n64 games today in my house i saw this and instantly had memories...
i remember the giant kitchen
OMG I just had a brush with the Nolstagia wagon! I remember playin this for hrs, I was never able to beat the game as a child, I remember the bathroom scenes but WOW! The memories!!! LOVED this game. Only wish I kept my system over the yrs :(
I remember my cousin having this game and thinking it was a Toy Story army men spinoff haha. Been looking for this game to add to my collection too. Good review!
Dude, I spent so many hours playing this game
I loved the Army Men in Toy Story and I loved collecting Army Men (in fact at some Chuck E Cheese like place I made some poor guy count 132 Army Men that I purchased with my tickets). When I found out there was an Army Men game on the N64, I was so surprised. Unfortunately, I wouldn't get to play it until a few years later. This game is a blast, especially in multiplayer.
Okay, I’m like 3 years late to this review, but in one of the missions in the grey camp, if you put your half transparent minimap on and stand in the corner of one of the compound room things a green soldier in the distance will show up on your mini map. It’s not Shrap btw because he’s in the last facility room thing.
This is my favorite game on the 64. Not for gameplay, but because it was one of the few that I REALLY got into as a child. Majora's Mask was the other one.
This game reminds me of childhood. I spent just as many hours on it as I did Mario 64, Pokemon stadium, DK64, and many others.
I really, really miss this game.
I absolutely agree with your review. I still have fun from time to time challenging myself with stipulation like only being able to use the rifle start weapon plus explosive weapons but only being able to use them on tanks and helicopters makes the game much more difficult.
I loved this game so much! I remember being like 8 playing this game and the 2nd. Great Memories and so Nostalgic thanks for the review and video :)
I love the Army man games!!! I played this game a lot. The look was so cool brings back lots of thoughts of playing with the army men toys. Nice review always...
Ziggy7800Pro thanks for watching! ill try to do the sequel soon
cool..
Loved these games as a kid. For some reason I got rid of them but I bought them again on PS1. Can’t wait to play them again!
I think the N64 ones are better
This game's story mode transcended the childish nature of the presentation, and I was in for one hell of a ride at 9 years old. Man it took me a long time to finish this game, but this felt like a serious war that I refused to forfeit!
You would not believe the intense battle friends and I had on this in multiplayer. Definitely on my top 10 multiple list! Campaign was complete great too! If ppl can stick with it long enough to get a handle on controls there is great fun to be had here!
The reason why the plot seems confused is because it was intended to be a dark comedy. If the PS1 version is indication with the voice acting and full on FMV cutscenes make it out to be a dark humorous take on war
Wow I haven't seen this game since I was 9 or 10, good fun memories.
My favorite game, so many memory's and fun multiplayer sniper battles in the kitchin level
I loved everything about this game from the music to the huge unforgiving levels. The Sandbox level with its fake "Cashmere" theme music is my favorite....
So many memories thank you for posting
Thank you, I still love playing this game.
Thanks for tuning in Wayne!
multiplayer on this game was fantastic. endless fun.
This brought chills to my childhood feels! the game's multiplayer was a blast with friends. I haven't seen footage of the multiplayer in over 10 years! So that was cool
Army men was my favorite game along with the other Army men games they made great review bud and thank you for the nostalgia 👍
that you Sgt!
Crazy I used to play this when I was like 5! I still remember all the details and stuff , i sucked at video games at the time😂
The multiplayer was always my go to with my brothers
Renting this and playing multiplayer with my friends on weekends is so nostalgic for me. I'd love a remaster of these games, and honestly any of the 3DO games. Battletanx is in my top 3 on N64 just for the sheer number of hours I poured into it.
A lot of memories with this one.I loved the kitchen levels for the reasons you stated. The bedroom level was also quite entertaining, if massively difficult. This game's sequel was great too. I'd have to say my favorite 3DO franchise is without a doubt Battletanx.
*Living Room* yeah this game has some crazy hard levels. 3DO didn't believe in save points either. I died at the very end of the Living Room when you fight the super weapon robots the first time I played it. I wanted throw my controller through the TV...
Growing up playing with the little green plastic army men are cool. But when a game comes out that contain these same little green plastic army men is one of the best things that can happen. The concept of playing as a little plastic guy is loads of fun. The only problem with it: the camera perspective is 3rd person, except when using the sniper rifle in scope mode.
What a great game. The multiplayer was really fun too with four people, man I miss when 90's video games were popular
I always wanted a sequel to this with expansive levels like full houses. Finding batteries to put into teddy bears to get an AI buddy. Find a screw driver to undo an air vent for a new tunnel. Find hidden Christmas presents for upgrades
Thanks to your review I picked this game up yesterday for $8! I almost forgot about this game, used to play it on ps1. The n64 version is a lot of fun!
My childhood!!
I have way to many memories of this game. I played it from 5th grade all the way through jr high. Hours of sleepless nights trying to pass the game without cheat codes. Idk man I play with plastic army men a lot too so this brought my outside plastic guys to real life seeing and controlling them on the screen.
This game was a mixed bag for me. In one hand it's over flowing with originality and ambition, but in the other hand the controls, camera movement, and AI are utterly terrible. I relived all the issues just watching your review, like when the rocket launcher soldier idiotically marches straight past you at 3:26, or when you storm around the corner at 3:12 to encounter a whole squad of dudes you didn't see because of the awful camera. I played Army Men when it first came out, and bought it years later as it was a game a friend and I strangely came back to again and again. It really does have a special glimmer of genius that shines through its many problems. Your review was great, but "sometimes fiddly controls" is an understatement! Cheers!
Dome-Candy Games dude, everything you said about the game is spot on. I really wanted to love this game because it is fun and very original. However, I just couldn't because of the awful controls and horrible camera.
You can use the aim button to always put the camera behind you tho
I USED TO PLAY THIS SO MUCH WITH MY BROTHER
This game was fun growing up. My cousin and I played it all the time. The last level I surprisingly remember vividly.
Yeah I'll try to do the sequel soon
Holy crap this game was ASWOME !!! Wow so much fun great upload again my friend
Nothing scared me more than turning a corner and seeing that yellow tank!
I loved this game as a kid!
I loved this game as a kid. I destroyed the campaign through strategy.
The other day I came across a game that reminded me of this game called HyperCharge. I had never heard of it but it looks fun.
Great review!!! Also, did you mean “antagonist” at 1:23?
I never did much of anything with the single player, but the multiplayer was so much fun back in the day. I especially love the map(s?) set in the real world. I remember one of my friends spawn-camping and killing me so many times. But it was still a blast.
Having played it again several years ago, the camera was definitely awful. But I'm hoping the game will play better now that I have controllers with more functional sticks (instead of the loose ones that accompany most N64 controllers today).
Memories everywhere! I loved this title
Daaammmn! You took me back!
oh man i remembered it was the very first game that i ever played when i was 4 years old! i even had alot of green and tan plastic army toys that comes in a small bag at a general store lol :)
this game is my childhood, me and my cousin use to roleplay sometimes together haha
I loved these series as a kid they are so good I need to find a copy to play on my n64
thank goodness I play this game for on n64 army men when I was a kid back in 2001
nunca mais vai sair outro console como Nintendo 64 essa sim é minha paixão quem gosta da um joinha aí
I love this game so much I remember play it on the family pc and then later on getting sarge's war for my ps2
I played the multiplayer mode so much in this as a kid.....
Excellent game , on console but blurry sometimes, even better on a computer with a half decent graphics card.
I never owned this game, my friend had it and I would go over to his house, and we always played multiplayer in the kitchen level and I remember having so much fun on that level, and now I've played a lot of games that use those level concepts of small characters in a big room setting but I think Army Men was the first to do it. Have you done a review for Battle Tanx or Battle Tanx 2? Those were 2 of my favorites that don't get mentioned a lot from people on TH-cam, I think the second one was the best. Nice channel.
I had realy good memory's of this game back in late 90's. I also liked the multiplayer mode as well as the story I remember the frist beginning like it was the sweet summer air in the summer. I liked a lot of the levels in the game as well going to blockbuster back in the days was a good time. I loved renting games to try out but army men was a classic for me growing up as a kid still is a classic to this day.
Bought this when it was first released. Played through the campaign for a while. It was not bad, but didn't finish it. Still got the original cart. One of these days, I guess :) Good vid dude!
I remember hating this game when I played through it way back when. The controls leave a lot to be desired. Cheap deaths around every corner, a terrible camera system, and unforgiving check points. Still, the game was incredibly fun to watch unfold, with the army men fighting the tan army, and going through the house was a blast. You even find a Nintendo 64 console, in it's box, under the Christmas tree. I played through the entire game because I rented it for a weekend. I finished it and never went back, and I'm glad I did. I like to remember it as a frustrating but entertaining game.
Ohhh my God... so much memories
Do you know where my mom is???
played this game way too much as a kid, loved the sequel too
I was just playing this! I love the game, it is really great. Most people complain of controls but I think it was well done. Love burning tree's blowing buildings music is great to.
I remember this game vividly especially from the spiders you have to kill lol
I agree, I love the soundtrack! This is a game I missed out on in my childhood.
sigh just grandstand all my nostalgia why don't you v_v
loved this game and the sequel , despised how unfair it's difficulty was at times , my absolute favorite thing i loved to do in it though was saving fellow soldiers , i used to replay those levels just to see how good i could get at saving them and growing my own following to play the rest of the missions with
the first game's main theme is the best....
This was one of my favorite games on the N64. I was very young when it came out so I had trouble beating it. There was one level early in the game where you had to infiltrate an enemy base and I couldn't figure out where to go... I had to wait until I got the codes online to skip that level and enjoy the full game.
Ha! I remember playing this game so much. I remember dying hundreds of times, before finally beating this game. The melting of toy soldiers always terrified me, and I thought it was fucking awesome!
I remember playing Sarge's Heroes 2, and then even playing Sarges War on Gamecube. Weird, I wanna play more Army Men! I hope one comes out for the Xbox One.
***** it would be cool although i have no idea who holds the rights to the series these days
***** yea its weird how these went from being super popular a back then to now where i haven't heard about an army men game in a decade.
