Minor correction, you pretty much always go dual energy with Alakazam/Weezing. Reason being is that most experienced Mewtwo players are not going to hoard 3-4 energy to let you one shot it, since it pretty well telgraphed. One tackle from Weezing is all you need to get it in range. Plus Psychic just requires one Psychic energy to use so the chance to get energy screwed is pretty minimal.
Attacks that hit the bench normally don't do weakness damage. In fact I don't think they ever do but it will do weakness damage if you opt to hit the active Pokemon.
One of my favorite decks right now is Marowak ex/Pidgeot. No need to run Sabrina because of Pidgeot's Drive Off Ability, Run it with a Hitmonlee and a regular Marowak for the ability to do 40 damage with 1 energy with 100 HP. Definitely check out Mogwai's video on the deck.
Important reason for playing electrode is 0 retreat cost. Can counter sabrinas with that or just play voltorb on open and retreat once you have the energy on the zapdos or pikachu.
This 1000% Some cards in the irl tcg are played solely because of free retreat like Hawlucha and Tapu Koko. It makes the deck less reliant on X speed to pivot and spread damage. It's really good and wouldn't be surprised if down the road it becomes the best way to play the strategy
Text that says "this attack does 30 danage" does apply weakness. The reason why Hitmonlee's Stretch Kick doesn't apply weakness is because you can't apply weakness to benched pokemon (that's a rule in the TCG and most cards specify it, it seems like on Pocket they stopped writing "don't apply weakness or resistance to benched pokemon" on the cards and instead just hard coded it in. Example: Zebstrika's Thunder Spear (the same attack as hitmonlee but you also have the option of hitting the active) vs a Water deck will do 30 damage if I hit a water type pokemon on their bench (even if they're weak to electric). However if I hit their active water pokemon it would do 50.
Not only can you not attack on your first turn going first in the irl TCG, but you can't use a supporter card either 🤣 so Misty + Turn 1 Blizzard would be a big no no.
Calling it now the antimeta pick is Marowak Pidgeot. Pidgeot helps reliably outpace mewtwo ex if it hits the field the same time gardevoir does. Marowak already beats pikachu and covers for electric weakness.
@@kelaindiniteridk it’s easy to set win conditions around 80 average damage. And primeape is psychic weak and has too little hp to survive pikachu. Sandslash is more reliable rn
@@meiofauna2267 80 is not bad if it hits every time, but the lack of concistency hold it back. I personallly dont see marowak having greats tournament placements with a deck that rely only on the damage it provides. Pidgeot have a excellent ability, but 70 for a 3 stage isnt enough
I think a pertinent point about ZardEX in the meta, is that Moltres is weak to electric/Pikachu, and dies very quickly as the supposed "tank" of the deck
Dkayed, buddy, love your content. Can you pick out a pokemon nerd among your fans to help you with Pokemon pronunciations? Hearing you say Kengis-can, is hilarious, but wrong.
Water decks with misty aren't great for tournaments where you need to win multiple times in a row. But they are amazing for events. If you draw a misty and it procs excellent then the other side almost always just concedes or it's nearly a guaranteed win. If you get a bad proc with Misty, and don't pull a good hand, then you just concede and move into the next match. So if all you want is 45 wins fast for the event then water deck with Misty is perfect. Marowak Ex deck with sandslash and dugtrio is also great. It's very low energy requirements. Dugtrio is great for delays, I've flipped heads like 4 times in a row before, so either you are delaying or the opponent has to burn one of their sabrinas. But all of your stuff just requires 1 energy to retreat. So it's super aggressive due to the low energy requirements and you can retreat and put something else in front very easily. Plus the Marowak Ex does give mewtwo players a heart attack.
with hitmonlee that pokemon on the bench do not experience extra damage from weakness. Greninja can damage the active pokemon and if it is weak to water it will take extra damage.
hey Dkayed whats your opinion on the 66% mewtwo deck with 1 ralts? what are the reason we dont see it in top tier lists? can you compare it with the standard mewtwo lists we saw here?
It's worth running dark energy in the Alakazam/Weezing deck since Alakazam only requires one psychic energy. I've beaten multiple Mewtwo ex decks with the weezing doing all the damage that match
raichu isnt the cheaper way, is the best way, you volt charge magneton, then play eventualy raichu and lt surge , mostly combo to counter other pikachu decks and since if the counter is better than the deck, you just play the counter and win regardless
I’ve become a really big fan of Raichu. It’s a really nice sneaky way to swing for 140 damage. Often times I just have a pikachu on the bench, swap my electrode for free, lt surge onto Raichu. Generate a magnaton energy, play an energy. Next turn magnaton another energy, Lt surge again, and boom. Gg
I think Pikachu will stay relevant maybe not Tier 1 depending on what they add to the game. Pikachu is just easy because every pokemon has a 1 enerygy retreat cost. Making XSpeed a free switch out. You only need 3 benched mons to do max damage and it has 120 health making it so it cant be oneshot by most mons. Oh and it claps any water deck. With all that being said I lose most of my matches with Pikachu. Weezing Arbok has been carrying.
The problem is that Mewtwo and Pikachu are so ahead of everything else that by adding supports for other archetypes you'll soft buff them by giving Charizard an Evo search, Mewtwo gets garde quicker, and Pikachu benefits base searches
It is solid but I think on tourney setting it tends to get outpaced by pikachu and mewtwo if the venusaur deck cant get eggs online fast enough pretty much is why its seeing fall off
Alakazam weezing is played with both dark and psychic energy i believe cause alakazam only need at least 1. I psychic could be wrong but all the ones i face in match making uses both energy. I never been a tornament so i could be wrong
@rafflesiaandfriends Asking for the list! I'm curious how many fossils you're talking because I also enjoy the thought of mainly core fossil but can't seem to get it working and it's likely due to me not having two copies of some cards
I run 1 Jynx and Slowbro with my 2 Mewtwo and Gardevoir. The space for Slowbro comes from dropping the potions. The 130 HP is better than the 40 EHP. He also acts as a soft wincon, by taking 2, sometimes 3, hits to knock him out, gives time to power up Mewtwo while sometimes sneaking in 80-110 damage before it goes down. The other card I use is Jynx. She's a solid early pressure card that I like, but I would like to run Alakazam over Jynx. Unfortunately, there's no way to squeeze it in with the 20 Deck Limit. I really want to see that upgraded to 30.

No, there are definitely tiers but the game is super RNG heavy which makes the tiers inconsistent. Pikachu and Mewtwo are by far the best decks but you can brick with both and get shit on by a Machamp deck which is worste overall. Pikachu is doing 90 damage with 2 energy and 3 electric back row. Mewtwo is just consistent and once they have Gardevoir then it's pretty much GGs. I agree to somewhat that there shouldn't be tiers when obviously there are 2 decks that are better than everything else right now but the tier list just go off of tournaments toppings.
@@izdev9055tbf most decks can brick. It's less of a problem with the deck themselves and more that there's only a handful of trainer cards that lets your search or draw.
