    I’m from New Zealand and rugby is like a religion here, therefore I should support the All Blacks, but Fiji are so amazing that I support them over my own country. No one plays with the same passion as Fiji and when they are ON they can make any team in the world look like amateurs. I mean the population of Fiji is around 1 million (and the by the way half of the population are Indian) and they are the world champions. Just amazing.

      I think the reason why Fiji can't do well in 15s is the concentration problem. 7s is a short time game and we can only focus in a short time whereas in 15s, it's abit slow pace and tactical.

    One the day of the final match in Rio I was in school and I had a tutorial to attend during the match and I thought I was going to miss it. An hour before the match was to start the students got an email saying that classes were cancelled for the next hour to allow people the chance to watch the game.
    I watched the game infront of the library where the librarians had taken an ancient TV and a wire antenna outta storage just so student who couldn't make it to the stadium (our national stadium right next to the university had opened it gates for pple to come in and watch the game live on the jumbotron inside) could watch the game live to.
    On that day our nation stood still and I had never been more proud to be a Fijian that day. 😊

    • @joshhewitt105
      @joshhewitt105 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Aqua Gaming, I have to disagree, I think their gameplay is pretty good, as they are generally either in the lead or pretty close come half time, but they start to lag in the second half. Unfortunately and I hope World rugby can address some of the discrepancies, but teams like Fiji, Japan etc, don’t get the same play time as the Tier 1 nations, so their fitness suffers.

    • @Samizouza
      @Samizouza 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    Rugby in Fiji is different to making drafting but they hold tournaments for the Fiji team to play other full Fijian teams and from there the coaches start too look for more talent for not only the players but the future of the Fiji team 💯

    Rugby 7s is played on a full size pitch but only 7 a side as opposed to 15. A game consists of 2 x 7 minute halves. In a tournament the finals are 2 x 10 minutes. It is very fast and gives the smaller nations a better chance of succeeding. There are 7 s tournaments around the world I would recommend you watch some of these as you will understand the game better as it is easier to see what is happening.

  • @ezgablest8830

    They're actually selected from these tournaments around the Fiji Islands. From there players are selected along with the privious team from the last season, then go through a grueling selection process before the final team is selected.

    @calumcaldwell1884 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    This documentary follows the Fiji national team. So it’s the best players in the country who get selected by the national team. In rugby the higher level is international test rugby. These teams don’t sign or trade players like NFL teams because they are national teams. So only Scottish people can play for Scotland only New Zealandeds can play for New Zealand etc. Each team selects players in different ways, there is no draft.
    But for most the year the players play for their Professional clubs/franchises. These work like NFL and NBA teams and there are many different pro leagues around the world.
    The best club players will get picked for international rugby by their national teams and in Rugby Union most nations play about 10/11 games a year. In international tournaments against other countries

    Players are handpicked out of secondary school rugby or the sevens circuit as well that is held throughout the year. Coachs pick players as well from the feeder teams to the national team such as the drua or provincial rugby. For olympics or the 7s world cup,players overseas can put their hand up for selection. Where they all come into training camp and try and impress the coaches to get a spot in the team.
    p.s not just a city but the whole country backs the boys. Either they win or lose, they are welcomed home as heroes. A usual 3 hr trip lasts 8-12 hrs just because fans on the roadside that wants to see the boys 💯

  • @mataicakau237
    @mataicakau237 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The players draft don't exist. In 7s the players are picked from their respective clubs. They're non professional clubs, some teams are made by players living in the same street, gets registered into a tournament and they're in. That is why these players are so grateful about representing Fiji. They can be waking up this week training with their friends or neighbours in their home team, and they're in the Fiji team camp the following week.
    One of the great stories I've heard was one of the players "Vilimoni Delasau" his parents were very strict on him and doesn't allow him to play any sports. He sneaked out one Saturday morning to go and play at a 7s tournament (one of the major tournaments) with his friends and by the afternoon, his parents were waiting for him at home shocked and in tears, because they heard their son's name got called out on the radio to join the Fiji 7s camp. The rest is history! What a player.

    We have multiple levels of club rudgy that hold tournaments all over the country. These tournaments acts as selection grounds for coaches and trainers and training and proving grounds for up and coming talents. Their is also a try out for national teams that happen about twice a year.
    We don't have a draft system like in America. Our teams form and play against each other and travel overseas to participate in tournaments and coaches for national teams can select you to train and try out to be on the starting line or to be a reserved player or you can try out for the national teams on your own.
