    For durability, I'd like to see a row of sticks of different sizes, and see how far each mower makes it before they get jammed. Tools or rocks would probably finish off the mowers, and both are real world possibilities.

      Kobalt mowers suck imo definitely would not recommend buying one no upmh behind them also the one my uncle had caught fire while I was mowing grass. Apparently it got water in the case some time the day before and created a short in the control board which is directly below the holes in the battery cover
      That isn't water tight

    I have a honda gas powered lawnmower and it has been through gravel, stones and sticks many times. It would be interesting to see how these stand up to those things you often see in and around lawns. The worst thing the mower has gone over was a decorative concrete separator (one to divide the lawn and garden bed), it sliced through the concrete (about 2 inch) and started right back up again. Maybe break a cinder block up and see how the lawn mowers cut through a piece of it

      i mean they're kind of different use cases. an electric mower is more ideal for a small yard since their batteries don't last too long but are plenty if you don't have much you need to mow. in that case electric is the way to go since youll easily save over time never having to fuel the thing. for rougher conditions and larger spaces a gas mower will be better. they're both good, it just depends on your situation.

    • @PureChaos
      @PureChaos 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have had an an Ego electric mower for 4 years and have hit rocks and concrete blocks. Did not do much damage to the blade. The blades tend to be lighter, so depending on how often and how much stuff you hit with it, might need to spend 20 bucks to replace it if you get to many divots in it. I had to replace my blade after my neighbor left tools in my yard that I did not see, and I ran over a bunch of wrenches and a hammer. I could have sharpened and rebalanced the blade, but I just replaced it because it was cheap and I did not have time to waste sharpening and rebalancing.

Electric things are okay but with me, I found that they don't have as much power as the gas ones (Depending on the brand), but I have both just in case. I’ve had a few mowers over the years. I got the 80v Kobalt last year and it has been awesome. However, there are a few things that should be known. Electric mowers use lighter blades, that need more frequent sharpening and will inevitably wear out sooner.
    I also have the trimmer and leaf blower so I can rotate batteries. I get about 45 minutes on the larger battery (came with mower) and about 30 minutes on the other standard batteries. Basically, because I have 3 batteries I can do everything for my lawn without much issue. Especially since there is only a 30 minute recharge. If I had only one battery, I’d be either upset or taking more beer breaks.

    It's not that the gas mower is more powerful, but the electric mower has electronic load sensors to automatically turn it off (think if it like a fuse breaker) when you hit something that could damage the mower's blades, motor, deck or you, such as baseballs. It's a lawn mower, not a baseball chopper. Typically electric motors have more power and torque than comparable gas powered engines.

    I have an Ego 56V self propelled electric mower. I have been through a lot of mowers through the years. The Ego electric by far my favorite mower ever and made mowing fun. Best thing about electric mower is no yearly maintenance like a gas mower. The battery in mine will last an hour or more and has an indicator to warn me when it gets to 25% charge. Sometimes my grass gets really tall between mows (6 - 8 inches tall at times). I can cut it down at 1 inch lift without much of an issue (my gas mower would sometimes bog down). The electric mowers seem to work best in either mulch mode or bagging mode. When I use the chute it always clogs up like the one in your video. I don't think I will ever go back to a gas mower. Also have electric weedeater and love it too.

  • @Estranged180
    @Estranged180 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I own that exact electric mower. I also own a Husqvarna mower. The difference in power is obvious. The Husqvarna will pull you through the grass, while the Kobalt has to be pushed. That said, the Kobalt is decidedly lighter, so pushing it isn't quite the chore. I use the electric on my front lawn, and the gas on the back, because the back is soooo much larger than the front, with patchy grass, crab grass, and other plants that decide to grow out there. The gas mower deals with them all.
    However, having that electric mower leads into the electric leaf blower that I use to clean out my computers, and the electric trimmer, which all share the same batteries.
    There's advantages to both. Just have to find those advantages.

  • @lordmysticlaw1991

    Wait, this electric mower charger and works on a battery pack? For years I used an electric mower handed down from my grandad. You actually plug it in and use it like that and try your best not to run over your power cable. It's quite a skill. The cable had sooo many patch repairs by the time it was retired. But I loved that thing.
    Also, who on earth wears white shoes and/or socks while mowing the lawn? How long is it gonna stay white?

    They have come a ways with electric mowers I think, better batteries and such. You can also buy multiple batteries and have basically as much run time as you have batteries on stand by. I don’t know how the electric mower functions engine wise, but down here in Florida I guess with all the sand. The carburetors get clogged super easily, especially on a cheap mower, I think at my moms we could get 2 or 3 mows out of the cheap mower she had before it stopped working. And for an older woman, and at the time just me around to help her, we’re not really mechanically knowledgeable so we would have to pay to get it fixed. And we have to make a point to get ethanol free gas which is fairly easy here since there are a lot of boat owners, but still a down fall. I don’t own an electric mower because until recently they were crap lol, I know because I work at a place that sells mowers and it seemed like when they first came out 9/10 electric mowers we sold were returned. But again I think they’ve improved the power and battery capability’s. I guess it comes down to personal needs. Most yards here are relatively small as well. Also, when my mom could mow her own grass, I feel like the electric would have been easier for her to push, lighter etc. just my thoughts. You should test electric ride on mowers, I’ve been curious about those.

    I prefer the adjustment on the craftsman because it lets you set the front at a different height than the back to help in long grass.

    • @brendagamez7279
      @brendagamez7279 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Setting the front of the craftsman mower higher than the back of it allows you to attack the taller grass and when the rear of the mower gets to the grass area the front started cutting will continue to cut the grass at the height you want. I like the dual deck setting better.

    I've been using an electric mower for years. The thing about them is they can't handle wet grass at all. Even if it's just a little moist it's clog city. If you have one of those little postage stamp lawns like we have in the city, either corded or cordless is fine as long as it's dry, but if you're out in the 'burbs with a lawn that's actually big enough for the kids to run around, go gas. Preferably a rider.

I thought it had good power for the 6 inch grass I was moving. It never clogged or bogged. And it lasted the 40 +minutes I was working with 2/5 bars of charge left. I would say if you spend the extra money and get a good electric mover it will be amazing. Great video Tyler !

    That was fun to watch. Nice video! I just have to mention the 80v pro lines of mower /trimmer are very very good. If comparing the 40v to 80v - (for example greenworks brand or kobalt) the 80v will give another 50% performance at least. Of course the exception of the EGO 56v. They are engineered and perform well with their 56v.
    I've yet to hear more about 60v line of tools (some manufacturers do have a 60v). I do know the 40 is pretty decent, but the 80 is on another evel.

That way you get a gradual cut instead of the front of the rotation doing all the cutting. With the front raised the Grass gets cut gradually until at the rear its down to desired height.

    I've got a Kobalt 40v push mower. I love the mower. You are worried about the handle giving out a few years? Nah, my mower is stored outside with just the motor part protected from weather elements. Handle is still intact, and I've owned it for 3 years now. My kids regularly leave toys out back that they missed (I have them go out and pick up their toys before I go out), and the mower has thrown a toy car on the roof of my house. Blade is just fine, and the mower starts up with no problem. I know what you mean about not knowing when the battery is dead until it is dead. I've also got the 40v weed eater that came with a 4A battery. My backyard is thick enough that the battery not only dies, but overheats with just the backyard. the 4A battery will mow my front and side yards, then go in the weed eater. I'll say it again. I love my battery operated mower.

    I have been using my electric lawn mower for the last 10 years or so. I've saved hundreds of dollars on gasoline and oil for a gas mower. It took me 2-3 litres of gas (which is $2.50-4.00) to mow my lawn. Electricity costs pennies for the same amount of work.

  • @solennocav4533
    @solennocav4533 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Concerning the length of the handles, I personally prefer the gas powered, the electric may be longer but to push down on it to raise up the 2 wheels and turn it is a lot harder. I am a professional landscaper and depending on the hill you are on that could be a huge deal in terms of controlling it and stopping it from falling if need be. The shorter handle will make it easier to stick close in tight spaces like the corner of a building or around a tree as well

  • @gubbica99

    As someone that is using lawn mowers since the age of 12, i wouldn't change gas over electric any time soon. You had a very basic "cheap" gas law mower , i would go for a price range somewhere between 400-500 euro , where you wouldn't have the problem as you had with the plastic front. That also caused that the gas lawn mower to bend due to the weight of the motor and that's why it hit the ground while the electric is much lighter, which means no problem in that regard. But if you have a large garden i would never use battery powered motor over gas , like you said 25 mins is not enought for people who own a little extra. Now i have my doubts about the durability of electric because like most things batteries likes to die quite fast when you charge them fast and use it in one go , my guess most electric mower shouldn't last more than 5 years at best , while a gas one like mine is working for 8 years by now. When it comes to cleaning/servis , people who are not so experienced then electric motors are wins over gas. I remember when i was 14 and got my hands on my first gas powered lawn mower it didn't live for too long, due how more difficult it was to maintan, therefore for women/novice people electric , while gas for experienced/hobby masters. Like you said both lawn mowers are good and it's personal preferences/price range you wanna invest into it.

    Battery powered mowers are actually designed to stop when it hits an obstacle to prevent damage and injury. Earlier mowers didn’t do this and ended up burning themselves out. Trust me, if that safe guard wasn’t in place the electric mower would act pretty similar to the gas.

Our lawn mower didn't spit out the side, but out the back and we didn't have a bag for some reason. Every time I had to mow the lawn, I had to scour the earth pulling out any loose rocks, you get about 25% and then 75% to the shins later. Good thing no pictures exist of my legs when I was a child! Nightmare vision!! If you have yet to film this, please take any necessary precautions or you may be limping for the remainder of the year.

    One of the reasons I would go so long between mows was because gassing, starting and pushing a gas mower is a bit of a pain. If I had the electric mower where it was more comfortable and just “push button and go” I would likely mow more often, offsetting the need for more power from the gas. Also, not having to keep a fuel can is a bonus.
