Most people, when they think of the trombone as a solo instrument, can only recall the trombone solo at the beginning of the TUBA MIRUM of the Requiem of Mozart. It's so nice that people like Michael Haydn have written concerti for the instrument.
This is out of his Serenade p.87. Michael Haydn liked to include concertini in his larger works - the number of slow movements in his symphonies that are also just little concerti is fairly high, probably comparable to the number of fugal symphonic finales by him :P.
Listening to this it strikes me that there is very little difference in melodic lines or even deviations of phrasing between the two instruments, so it might have sufficed as either a single trombone or single horn concerto. Regardless, it's a wonderful concerto.
In Haydn's day solo trombone and first trombone parts were written in the alto clef and played on an alto trombone. Over time the tenor trombone took over this role and the alto went out of fashion. In recent times the alto ( I have one) has been revived and used in the interests of authenticity.
@@arminrosin5247 I have had that very recording on LP since my college days (79-84) and love it. Armin Rosin used a very nice Thein alto trombone with a trill valve added for extra dexterity. the recording is brilliantly done.
Trombone: cylindrical bore (like trumpet), Horn conical bore (like cornet and tuba). What's the sense in mixing them? Their harmonic build-up is completely different.
They always sound amazing when paired up. Also using your logic, trombones shouldnt play with tuba and euphoium even though they're always lumped together and share many parts
Sound of trombone and horn unified, perfect perception. Haynd made this wonderful concert with both instruments.
Magnifique ! Merci Danke Grazie!
Johann Michael Haydn is a much under rated composer.

This is such FUN to listen to!
nunca habia escuchado un concierto para esos dos instrumentos y está muy bonito.
Morbido forte durissimo...trombone a tiro

Great! Thanks for the info on tenor trombone. News to me.
wow excelente versión q trinos impecables.
Love duets and these two sound pretty darn good together. Have played both and this sounded really good. Thank you 3:)
vraiment la référence est Cazalet Becquet plus rapide propre et souple mais c est une version agréable et bien musicale
Pragtig.
Yes, so beautiful!
호른과 트럼본이 이토록 환상적인 궁합을 이룰 줄이야!

Je suppose qu'il s'agit d'un concerto intercalaire dans une sérénade ou un divertimento ?
Has anyone found the scoresheet for this peace?
ahaha well i do not have an organ nor am i planning to get one soon :D but thank you so much I will check it out!
Alto trombone to be more precise.
What do you mean?

@@mindenfugleman6976 for this Armin Rosin uses an alto trombone (with the wonderful Herman Bauman on Horn)

Many thanks to You. For me it was a great pleasure to play together with wonderful hornplayer Hermann Baumann.

Does it sound bad? No? So stop yapping.
