I'm the dad of a nine-year-old daughter, and you, as well as a few others on youtube, have taught me how to put flexi-rods in her hair. And she's thrilled about how beautiful and bouncy her hair is. Thanks!
Yakari Gabriel I've always envied black hair. It's gorgeous natural & holds various styles amazingly! These curls on her are beyond stunning! I only wish mine could look like that... Anyone that has something bad to say about this hair is a moron. So glad to have found this tutorial. Great job! 😊💜
Seems I edited out when I applied the shea butter!! #MyBad I applied the flax gel, and then a bit of shea butter on top to hold it in, and make the hair softer
Just curious, when you did this set, was heat previously applied to your hair for the stretching process; as you mentioned in 0:23? You said you were testing the method using heat. Do you think you would have gotten similar results if "NO HEAT" was applied? (even though heat was not applied in the setting of the style, heat was previously applied). HAVE I confused you more? LOL!.
DiscoveringNatural Lol, no I know what you're saying. I don't think it would have been exactly the same, since heat has a way of really stretching those curls and kinks, but it would be extremely similar. If you take a look at my "How to cheat a perm rod video" you'll be able to compare the texture and see how it would look using absolutely no heat from start to finish. The results are still very shiny and smooth using the "No Heat Blowout Technique" Xo!
***** Thanks so much Whitney. I am on Day 3 of my first #Flexirods set and have been documenting my findings on my blog DiscoveringNatural blah blah.. LOL. I love my #NaturalHair and all its "hidden secrets". LOL!
In the event you run outta rods, take a paper bag and make strips out of it make those your rods. My grandma taught me this trick and it works EVERY TIME
Basically, roll the hair around the strips like you would a regular roller. Then tie the ends of the strips like you would a shoe, but not too tight that you break any hair. You guys are very welcome.
This tutorial is AMAZING! I have super thick, long hair and I must admit I am not the best at keeping up with my hair. I tried this and my hair turned out FABULOUS!
TOO FABULOUS! Your heatless stretched hair is soooo stretched, who needs a blow-dryer! Did you use the tension method for this stretching? I knew I detected a bit a color in those FABULOUS locks on your FB post the other day! I love flax seed gel thanks to you, I was scared of it at first...AAAAH see that flax seed mixture scares me, too thick like slime! Yeah, I remember that Nickelodeon GAK! Your curls are just AMAZING, you've got shine, smoothness, moisture and movement! Well this definitely deserves 2 THUMBS UP, 5 GOLD STARS and an A+++! If someone thumbs down this I'll just assume there finger slipped or their just CRAZY!
First all I love your videos. Did this style early Sunday morning (2:00AM) and even though I only had four hours for it to dry (no hooded dryer) but it turned out great and I had a lot of compliments on it...so yay!!!!
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH! I'm getting married next year and I've been back and forth with natural hair or getting perm done (which I REALLY didn't want to). This video have given me so much inspiration and I can't wait to try this! Thank you for making girls like me embrace their roots. Much love!
beautifulllllllllll 😍 I think flex rods are the best to use... I've been doing the braid out and the twist out, but I think this is by far the best method for curls... love it
Thank you, thank you, and thank you for this video! The results of my rods were simply amazing...even your technique (thank you for sharing). I've done many rod sets in the past & it just gave me a normal curl & I wasn't really excited about my result...but this...this is awesome!
This video was helpful with learning how to curl and lengthen natural hair without heat from a curling iron. I love how you applied the products to your hair and the definition of the curls. Your hair is beautiful!!!
Wow. This is amazing! You really helped me. I was on the bench about these. Because I REALLY don’t know what to do with my hair between braiding. And I’m not good at casual braiding at all. I’ve been trying to rock my natural curls but they frizz up WAY to fast. So I’ll give this a try. Thanks
What 8 morons disliked this??? Seriously. This has to be the best flexirod set I"ve seen on YT (and I've seen a lot!!). Beautiful curls. Hope you went somewhere nice with that beautiful hair and makeup!
Just love your hair and when I did this method it turned out AWESOME!!!!!! Thanks so much for all your videos and help that you supply/provide to the natural community
I never use flexi rods anymore. They always pull too tightly on my scalp. I always use the old 80's style, pink sponge rollers :3 It costs like $1.50 for a 10-pack at my favorite beauty store & all its items for sale are 98% hair items. But I LOVE the finished results on your hair; just...beautiful!
+Kristina Ravenell if your twa is at least 3-4 inches, its possible. don't do it on shorter hair - its possible, but you will have to pull really tight at the root go get the short hair around the curler.
I'd be very careful using sponge rollers. Although I have straight, thick Asian hair, when I used sponge rollers as a teen, I noticed how much hair would break off and stick to the spongey surface. Then a good friend of mine (who was an African American hair stylist) told me that they were particularly damaging to her hair. She told me that the coarser your hair texture the more likely the hair 'grabs' the sponge's surface, resulting in breakage. So she showed me how to tear an old sheet into strips and roll my hair with these to get beautiful spiral curls. :-)
Washed and deap conditioning my hair today letting it air dry and stretch out. Will be attempting this style tomorrow on my strecht out coiks . Wish me luck. Love your tutorials. Much luv a hugs from the Netherlands!
I promise if I am able to achieve this on my hair, I would do it every day lol. I chopped off 85% of my relaxed hair around 7 months ago, and after having 85% natural hair, I damaged it with heat! When it's not one thing is the other..sigh. I finally left the creamy crack but then I caught myself addicted to the heat -.- . So, now I am trying to find possible ways to get NICE looking curls with no heat, anything but heat to make this natural yet heat damaged hair. And this looks beautifuul! Thanks for sharing, hope it works out for me lol
+onlythesmiles The cheat is that she didn't have to use heat to get the curls looking nice. So, now that you know, you can take back that dislike, and like it. :)
+onlythesmiles Okay, chill, when I said "no heat", this is what I mean. Most people BLOWDRY (a form of heat) their hair to have it stretched for flexi rod sets..
Glad I found this...ended up buying the flexi rods because the curlformers were a little out of my budget this time around. Trying these until I get them. Wish me luck!
I loved the new video and look. Your videos are always easy and amazing to watch. I've been learning alot of different hair techniques and have been getting alot of positive feedback on my hair styles. Thanks so much for taking the time in sharing these wonderful hair tips as i share them with others.
My sister is about 5'4 and it took her maybe 6 years to get mid back length hair it usually takes quite some time if you weren't previously taking care of it
Okay thanks. I noticed that my hair grow faster naturally then it did with a perm. It's growing fast because I am taking care of it and I'm loving the results
Kenecia Harris Also, watch your diet. Try juicing if you don't like to eat salads or a lot of veggies. Also try the "green-house" method. My hair grew quickly when I did this for 1 month straight. Deep- condition once a week- do it faithfully. And last but not least--always take special care of your ends.
Okay, so if I try this style out on my shoulder length hair.... how much shrinkage would I get lol?? Maybe I should wait for my hair to grow out before trying this but this is my dream style!! And I doubt my curls would come out as BIG as hers did.. cries.
If your hair is shoulder length you finished result would be a short curly style. The size of the curls is dependent on the size of the rods you use. But you'll clearly have less volume and it will be more of a short Lil Orphan Annie do which is nice. Be happy with your hair. It's what you will always have.
YOU ARE SUCH A NATURAL INDIVIDUAL. I LOVE YOUR DIY'S. I USE THE AFRICAN ACK SOAP SHAMPOO. I LOVE IT. I WANT TO TRY THE DEEP CONDITIONER WITH ACV. AND YOUR OVERNIGHT HOT OIL TREATMENT. YOU'RE THE BEST. THANK YOU.
I have not learned how to do this, but I hope to try one day! I have a box of flexi rods and attempted to put one in my hair just to see how they work and from that point I knew it would be an tough adventure lol, so I've been somewhat hesitant. I absolutely love your results!! thanks for the motivation and for sharing!
I would take a SMALL bit of oil or some kind of balm and gently, pull on the section so the curl will relax a bit and be more like hers instead of it being too tight. Hers is REALLY amazing, the incredible bounce and shine!
You would probably need more product, some hairspray, and heat. It's possible to get good results. But remember, this lady has very textured hair so while you both get curls, hers will be more defined simply because of the hair.
Love To Sing Except the weight pulls the curls down at my crown whereas hers stays up. It's not as bad if I have been dying it so its more porous and light weight then but I'm trying to deal with my natural color now. Each strand is super fine on my head but there's a lot of it so it gets soooo oily super quick.
That is so cool. Couldn't you perm your hair like that? I love that you parted your hair on the side, I hate seeing nice hair like this parted in the middle.
The best results that I've had with either a Bantu knot or flexi rod set is to stay away from gel or "wet" products when my hair is dry. I always got an Afro too lol.
I'm the dad of a nine-year-old daughter, and you, as well as a few others on youtube, have taught me how to put flexi-rods in her hair. And she's thrilled about how beautiful and bouncy her hair is. Thanks!

Yaas i sure enough did! Definitely will be trying this especially with creme of nature gel😊😀

You're not the only male, trust me! its nice to find guys that into natural hair as well. :)
im not a dude but good for you honey! Don't stick to stereotypes! :D
i really love that you don't talk so much during your tutorials! too many women go on and on and on and it's not necessary. thank you.
I agree. They talk about their personal life and it goes on and on, I just go to the next video.
I also agree...
I don't want to hear about your ex & other bs SHOW NE HOW TO USE THE PRODUCT
Great tutorial! I now know how to apply my rods
Gorgeous curls! Beautiful
Same. I love how she goes straight to the point.
Seems I edited out when I applied the shea butter!! #MyBad I applied the flax gel, and then a bit of shea butter on top to hold it in, and make the hair softer
That's ok, I knew you applied that after the gel! Good looking out though because I'm sure someone will ask about that! Have a GREAT day!
Just curious, when you did this set, was heat previously applied to your hair for the stretching process; as you mentioned in 0:23? You said you were testing the method using heat. DANGGGGggggggg hair so long and so thick ,,,Gorgeous
I've never used the flex rods, but from the outcome of this. I'll definitely be buying them soon.
I wish I could like this a million times!!! That's how beautiful these curls are!!!
I felt the same way, lol.
I love your hair videos because you defy the odds of how others think about black hair, you made me realize that "natural is beautiful" 😍
Just want to say I love that you are not wearing tons of make up while setting & taking out your hair. the end results are amazingly beautiful.
Whitney, this is THE BEST flexi rod set I have EVER seen.
It turned out so well! So curly, full, and shiny. This definitely makes me want to invest in flexi rods!
She makes everything look so simple. I'm obsessed with her hair 😍
I love and appreciate how you got straight to the point and remained upbeat! Thanks so much for sharing!

When do you use the Shea butter?
Use it before applying the gel to help prevent flaking.
I was wondering the same thing
she said she puts it on after the gel to hold it in and make her hair softer
I am going to attempt to do this tonight, I hope it turns out right.
+BeautifullyMe it turned out great it's way better than using curlers

It costs like $1.50 for a 10-pack at my favorite beauty store & all its items for sale are 98% hair items.

You could put your hair into high pigtails then do flexi rods easier to sleep and doesn't pull on scalp .
Britney Tran Yes, but then the curls do not go all the way to the scalp. :)
+Kristina Ravenell if your twa is at least 3-4 inches, its possible. don't do it on shorter hair - its possible, but you will have to pull really tight at the root go get the short hair around the curler.

Who wouldn't like this? People are so jealous. Smh.
Idk where the cheating is....so dislike
+onlythesmiles The cheat is that she didn't have to use heat to get the curls looking nice. So, now that you know, you can take back that dislike, and like it. :)
+Cindy99765 it states "how to cheat a flexi rod" there was no cheat. obviously you don't use heat cause ITS A FLEXI ROD.
+onlythesmiles Okay, chill, when I said "no heat", this is what I mean. Most people BLOWDRY (a form of heat) their hair to have it stretched for flexi rod sets..

beautiful
these curls are pretty much perfection
Just just gained yourself a new subscriber. This is the best rod set I've seen thus far!

Um... when exactly did you use the pommade?
I think the shea butter was the pomade
dance404al But what use did she make of it though? Do you know?
+Carla-Lissa Nelson Im not sure of what you mean exactly
yes I didn't see her use it either
+dance404al What I'm trying to say is, when did you see her use the shea butter pommade?

What do u do to grow your hair..? That's the length I'm trying to get

Prevent breakage.

I absolutely love your results!! thanks for the motivation and for sharing!
about how many rods does she use?
The flexi rods I used were too small and now I look like Shirley temple. How do I get rid of them?
I, personally, would wash my hair and start over or do something else. Or blow dry them out.
Lol
finger detangle and hair pick it out and they'll look looser
+Symoné Holloway use a paddle brush and they'll loosen up
I would take a SMALL bit of oil or some kind of balm and gently, pull on the section so the curl will relax a bit and be more like hers instead of it being too tight. Hers is REALLY amazing, the incredible bounce and shine!
i wish my hair was like her
Absolutely brilliant.........and to think all the products are natural. Great video and a must do for me when my hair gets to that length
I don't have natural hair, but it is thick and I just have to try this. Those curls were too cute!
Fuck I'm literally tearing up right now those curls were beautiful
What size flexi rods are you using?
My hair is naturally straight. Would it turn out like yours?
You would probably need more product, some hairspray, and heat. It's possible to get good results. But remember, this lady has very textured hair so while you both get curls, hers will be more defined simply because of the hair.
