This is so informative thank you I needed this question. What kind of jar do I put my strawberries with a plastic lid or metal?
A plastic lid is ok for berries but either will work. The gallon ones are linked in my Amazon storefront which is in my description of this video and that will hold two pounds.
You can actually eat the stems of the strawberries. They kind of have a neutral taste unless you eat it with the rest of the berry.
Thank you so much for this video! Forgive me if you already answered this in the video… although they’re in the jars, do you still store them in the refrigerator or do you keep them on the counter in room temperature?
In the fridge
I just bought a bunch of strawberries and blueberries. I will try this method.
Yes, please do! They will stay fresh for weeks. Blueberries last even longer than strawberries.
Hello where can I buy those Baskets and what size please.
@@alfredacaudle3374 did you mean the jars? I buy them on amazon. I like gallon size for strawberry and quart for the other berries. You can find them here: www.amazon.com/shop/thecrosslegacy/list/25SLE2I8G4ZF9?ref_=cm_sw_r_cp_ud_aipsflist_aipsfthecrosslegacy_S12RWCWBYQ34N74VHC4K
i just started doing this after seeing your instagram. excited to see how to prevent what happened with my Raspberries and Blackberries. Question: Why the 5% for cooking? I wasn't raised knowing this type of stuff, I didn't even know you use 7% to clean.
The 7% isn't safe for food and you find it in the cleaning aisle at stores in the US.
@@TheCrossLegacy It's in the cooking aisles in Canada and labelled Pickling Vinegar. The cleaning vinegar here is up to 20% acetic acid.
@@shaynalinkie thank you 😊
Can you dry the washed produce with a paper towel instead of letting it sit out and drive for 3 hours?
It won't be completely dry with a paper towel
One way to get your plastic lids to last longer. When you wash them in the dishwasher turn off the dry cycle. I’ve been doing this for years and my plastic containers last much much longer I just let my dishes air dry or if I’m in a hurry I take them out and dry them with a towel and put them away. But usually after the dishwasher is done I just open the door and the hot steam escapes and they just dry.
love this suggestion. I often open up my dishwasher but it is because I hate the sound of the drying cycle it makes my ears ring.
Did I miss how much vinegar to add to the ten cups of water?
1/4cup of distilled white vinegar
Does it help to vacuum seal the jars when you jar your berries? Is it necessary or beneficial?
No, they just are stored closed in the fridge. You do not need to vacuum seal.
Would this method work with apricots as well?
Yes
Would this work if using Rubbermaid brilliance Tupperware since it’s air tight?
It will help but glass is the best.
Do u rinse off the vinegar/water mixture after the 2 minutes?
Yes for berries
Do you need to sterilize the jars with boiling or can i just wash them with dish soap and such
Just wash them
Can you cut the strawberries before they go in the jars?
No, leave them whole. When you cut them they start to deteriorate
❓❓❓What do you do with bananas and cherries?
Here is a video about cherries. th-cam.com/video/51_y2WU0y4c/w-d-xo.html If you search on my channel you should be able to find bananas too!
You can't dry them with paper towel??
No they need to air dry
What is your favorite strawberries recipes?
We eat them most fresh or in smoothies
Strawberries are not a berry.
That's funny you brought this up, yes I know a strawberry is not technically a berry but a banana is. The problem is most of the world doesn't know the difference to the scientific groupings of a produce item. We are working on our 3rd produce book and it is often a discussion of do we put pumpkins under melons and list them under a fruit, would anyone open the book to be able to find the produce item they are looking for if they were grouped in their true category. Carrots and carrots not listed under the herbs for example is another one since they are part of the parsley family. In general the things I am talking about are to help the home cook save money on groceries by reducing food waste not to over complicate produce.
