NICE ONE..MAY THE ROAD RISE WITH YOU ❤️
Nothing more touristy than to come to my country, spend all week in an all inclusive resort, and then claim that you've been there. Great tips as always Kristin.
Thank you!
Yes it's also annoying to be on the receiving end of these people's stories when they return to the UK
@@goldsilvertravel 😆
Thanks for this -- two things that work for me: 1) walk with confidence, like you belong there; and 2) consult the map before you go out, but write out instructions on a pad or piece of paper, and then just consult that casually. It is less distracting (and attracting) than pulling out your phone....
Great tips, Scott! Walking confidently and having directions written down can make a big difference. Thanks for sharing your strategies! 👍🗺️
When I travel abroad I use Airbnb which is typically in local neighborhoods. I always get a kitchen so I can prepare my own food which means I shop at local grocery stores and get better prices on food. I am vegan so trying to find restaurants with vegan menus is nearly impossible.
Fantastic tips Kristin! I'm with you on looking stylish. Rarely can you overdress - but you can easily underdress.
Absolutely, glad you resonated with me, Nora! Dressing stylishly can make a positive impression and help you feel more confident. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts! 😊👗
It is okay to look like a tourist because that is what you are, so have fun. You will always be able to spot the tourist no matter the dress code because they look at sights and surroundings in a way that locals take for granted. If you want to be left alone and not stick out, dress in business smart / smart casual in classic colours. People will think you are on a business trip and treat you more seriously. They will instantly drop any bad feelings they have about tourists. With that dress code, you can enter any place without concern (church, museum, cafe, any restaurant), the only place they might not let you in is the beach bar or club. Regardless of dress code just be polite, and try to not be a hindrance to the locals who are going about their day. A smile or a nod of acknowledgement will go a long way.
Great insights! Politeness and respect for the local culture always make a positive impact. Thanks for sharing, Sebastian! 😊🌍
Learning some local vocabulary and observing the culture are my faves. Thank hou Kristin ❤
I'd say those are good places to start. Also try to make local friends if you're there for some time.
Kristin, As always excellent content. Agree with all your info. You are a great inspiration for the travel community ❤
Thank you Janice!
Love the tips. I always bring a scarf that I can use as an accessory or an extra layer to keep warm they can also be tied and used as a little tote.
Hi Lisbeth, so glad you liked the video and that's a great tip as well! Multi-functional :)
One summer I was living in Spain, I went to the grocery store and one door was exclusively for going in and another for going out. Well I went out the in door and was escorted by security. Man I stood out as a tourist!
Haha, those little moments can happen to the best of us! Thanks for sharing your experience, Lindylee. 😄🛒
These are all great tips! It works out very well that I tend to wear long pants most of the time especially in Europe. One of the struggles I face is with having a camera and filming equipment out while vlogging. People will easily know I am most likely not from that place when I am out vlogging. As I always travel with my backpack, it does help that I can put away my camera and gorillapod into my backpack when I'm not filming anything for a while.
That's a smart approach, thanks for sharing, Scottman895! Being discreet can definitely help blend in while traveling. Happy vlogging! 📷🌍
Excellent! And thank-you for the app and website suggestions.
This is the information I need! Thank you! 😊
Great to hear! 🙌🫶

Kristin, there is a lot of great information in this video. Thank you.
Thank you, Jerry, so glad it was helpful!
thanks, this was super helpful
Great tips; I have traveled across Europe not only for a holiday but also for work, and in Majorca, there are a lot of problems with pickpockets, so we learned not to carry bumbags or handbags, put them in a rucksack; I even have a rucksack that can be locked.
Thank you, Pete! 😊 It's important to be aware of pickpocketing, especially in touristy areas. Using a secure rucksack is a smart way to keep your belongings safe while enjoying your travels. Stay vigilant and keep exploring Majorca and beyond! 🎒🌍🔒😄
Thanks for all your advice Kristin
My pleasure, Rick
Wonderful tips, Kristin, thank you so much!
You are welcome, Cindy! 🙌
They ask YOU for directions? That’s hilarious. Thanks for the chuckle. ❤
Yes it happens all the time!
@@TravelingwithKristinSame here. Happens to me quite often-when in Europe. 👍🏻

One tip I like to use is to carry a local newspaper and I never count money in public:)
As always Kristin some really nice tips from someone who has traveled as much as I have.

Great tips girlfriend! Thanks! ❤

Thanks for the valuable tips Kristin! I’m headed to France one way from US in Jan. Starting a new life at 62! Any vids or tips on the first few months living in a new country?
Congrats Gillian! I have videos about this in my coaching program, Ready to Relocate, but I’ll consider this topic for TH-cam as well. For relocation support you can also inquire at TravelingWithKristin.com/relocation
Good to go for neutral colours. I didn't know that about shorts or that Dutch women don't wear heels.
In Italy one has to look down not to step on the mines. They even have to submit dog DNA, because things are so out of hand.
I used 1 wireless earbud while in a new city recently, while having Google maps on the phone in my pocket, to look less lost. The phone would just tell me where to go through my earpiece.
That's a clever trick to stay discreet while navigating! Thanks for sharing, Michelle. 🗺️👍
Thanks for the information 🙂, I am not a flashy guy, so I will be safe.😊
You're welcome, Robert! Safety first, enjoy your travels! 😊
As we know, locals can often take advantage of tourists, especially if they don’t speak the local language. A video on how to NOT get ripped off by scammers would be great and helpful.
As a 77 year old travelling alone nobody ever assumes I'm a tourist. Usually the locals offer help, even when I don't need it. A polite thank you but I'm OK will suffice.
You are just so cool, and so smart! I just love you! ;-)
Aw, thank you, Rich! I appreciate your kind words! 😊🙌
Great tips Kristin. Agree with all of them. I believe these habits become natural things to do when you travel a lot. Sadly, I've lost track of the amount of tourists I've spotted in Central London, who stop in the middle of a busy hight street to point and gawk at something, pull out a map (or their mobile) and just stand there, and everyone has to go around them. They're the same ones who hold up a queue to buy a tube ticket because they've not even done research on how to do it. Another one to avoid when abroad in a non-English speaking country: Speaking SLOWLY but LOUDLY in English to some poor confused local 😳
Thank you! Absolutely, those habits do become second nature with experience! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, CosmicOrphan! 😄
Your so beautiful Kristin! ❤ Seeing your lovely face always makes my day! 😊
Thank you so much, @sonicmojo! Your kind words brighten my day too! 😊
@@TravelingwithKristin ❤😊 Rock on sweet!😊❤
After my most recent visit to the Czech Republic, I kinda feel like I’m not a tourist there anymore. I’m able to drive and find all the restaurants we go to both in the CZ and south western Poland, Some people remember me and say hi. And I’ve gotten use to the beer and vodka (and not get puking drunk at that). I still need to work on my Czech/Polish. I was a little worried about my little me (son) as he was walking the streets with is baseball cap on backwards and wearing air Jordan’s with teenage mutant ninja turtles socks on. Hopefully this isn’t too far off topic. Oh and I got a major bargain on the rental car this time because we got it in my wife’s home town and not in Prague!
That’s great that you’ve been able to spend a lot of time there and are starting to adapt to the local culture. And finding lower prices outside of Prague. I think it’s okay for kids to dress how they want. After all, we’re only kids once!
Weirdly, I’ve been asked for directions in every country I’ve been in, from Iceland to Costa Rica and all over Europe. I never wear a backpack, athletic wear wear or carry around a map. For safety reasons especially, I think it’s very important to try to be as inconspicuous as possible.
That's interesting! Thanks for sharing, Carolyn! Stay safe and enjoy your journeys! 🌍😊
So, I’m confused. Should I wear my Royal Stewart Tartan sportcoat to Edinburgh, or not? 😂
I went to Hearthrow UK with family members, we took a train to Paris, French, on the train going to Paris, there this couple who work together to try to steal the things in my backpack, lucky I put my lite jacket in the backpack, is on top of my other stuff that the thief can’t steal, it happened a second time to one of my family member, I have my SF cap on my head
Lucky that you noticed and they weren’t able to steal from you. Stay safe and I hope these tips help!
even though i`m 47 and usually don't look or act like a dumb/naive tourist......but that goes right out the window when i`m at the tokyo subway ! maps and structure combined with so many people isn`t my strong suit.....really overwhelming for me!
Same here. I’m Caucasian so yeah, tough to look like a local in Tokyo or anywhere in Asia. 😂 Also, signs and maps for the Tokyo subway can be hard to follow. Once I was staring at a subway map on the wall and was totally lost. It took me about 10-minutes to figure out that the North Arrow was pointing down and not up! Uuugghh! 😁
Hi Kevin and @lucchese20, it can be overwhelming, even for experienced travelers. Don't worry, you're not alone in feeling that way! It's all part of the adventure. Safe travels! 🚇🗺️

Hi! is poker refugees service working?
Hi Yip, we closed back in May
@@TravelingwithKristin Oh :( ok thank you and good luck in your projects!

Best to look like a bum. That way nobody will bother you. (my little secret of travel) 😆👌
That’s one way to do it! ;)
Wait 🛴🛵🛴 like Scholz
Let's grow into Lucas what we really are. What are you lunch?
I'm not wearing lederhosen or a kilt. Sorry 😂
Neither do the locals
I love your videos Kristin and have learned lots from them, but I have to disagree with something you said in this one. In certain parts of the world, like the UK, if you’re wearing the wrong soccer (football) jersey in the wrong neighborhood, you could get into trouble.
That’s not a common thing in the U.K.
To be honest, it’s not something I’ve known to happen in at least 25 years - unlessyou’re talking about a few hooligans.
Most of my friends support rival teams and we just tease each other about it.
Thanks John; I haven’t heard about this risk before, although I know soccer fans can be passionate about their team. But I haven’t observed an issue at games either. If in doubt, skip jerseys altogether.
I know hooliganism is much less prevalent now than it used to be but it still exists. Only a few years ago, one of my American friends was warned on the London tube to remove or cover up his daughter’s jersey. The man was very friendly but quite concerned for their safety.
@@johnwright2556Agree. This CAN be an issue in some areas by some people.
@@johnwright2556 This is really weird to hear. Are you sure your friend wasn’t exaggerating. Maybe the person that told them this was joking and your friend took it seriously?
I live in London and this is one of the strangest things I’ve read about my city - especially on the tube and to a child.
Maybe confer with your friend regarding the details.
🤍
💞💞
All good tips. It's funny there is a UTube couple that wears cheesy 'Retirement Travelers' matching white T-Shirts and hats everywhere they go! They are cool people, but damn they look pretty rediculous!
Haha, matching outfits can definitely be a bold choice! Thanks for sharing your thoughts, J R! 😄
"Wear a soccer jersey instead" NO NO and thrice NO. At least in Europe. Wearing the wrong team's colours in the wrong place is not a good idea. Sports fans in parts of the world can be very partisan. Please make this clear to all your people. If using contactless payment always check how much you are being asked to pay.
Thank you for the helpful tip, Ron👍
IN A MARKET IN EQUATORIAL GUINEA 😮 ...NICE TRY THO..❤
I do hope that some of your fellow Americans watch and learn from this excellent video Kristin.
You can usually spot American tourists a mile away. They tend to dress in bright, inappropriate clothing with the men wearing baseball caps. Backwards! Well, when I say "spot" what I really mean is "hear". Most American tourists are loud. Very, very LOUD!!!!!!
Thank you for sharing your insights, Tim! Awareness of cultural differences is key to respectful and enjoyable travel. 😊🌎
Football 'Soccer jerseys' - No, NEVER! unless you want to be considered a football lout - (tempted to say 'or worse still English! ....but I won't.
Thanks for the insight, Pat! 😄👍
In Europe, I know it's a pain. Try not to wear warmup workout gear, and gym shoes no matter what part of the day. Talk quietly.
Thanks for the tips, Aaron! 👍😊
TOP TIP U MAY B THE WRONG COLOUR...SO DONT LOOK LIKE U WORTH ROBBIN.. .AND LEAVE ENOUGH IN YOUR POCKETS TO MAKE EM REASONABLY HAPPY 🎯👍....SOND ADVICE THAT IS❤
SOUND ADVICE...excuse my English 😮
Nothing says newbie tourist like a fanny pack / Bum bag; leave it at home! Take instead a small shoulder bag (men too) or a small day pack. And don't do like I did in Madrid and clip your camera to the outside of it, stolen!
…and please do not carry Bed pillow on your next flight vacation, I can not get over it. It is not classy and looks really tacky.
Thanks for your input, Orly Marq! Safe travels! ✈️🌴
