    there's another option to change ide to ahci.
    just change the setting first to ahci and then boot to safemode,
    after booting to safemode, the ahci drivers will automatically install then restart,
    now you can boot on ahci mode without bsod.
    tested on windows 7,8/8.1 and 10

    Play it at 1.5t (times) in the speed settings. Essentially *if have SSD, Windows Vista or later and your BIOS supports it, enable AHCI for speed gain* . If there is a boot problem, switch back to IDE and google the problem. The solution is easy
    *Linus* the show is called Techquickie so *make it quickie*

    You don't need to modify the registry if you switch from IDE to AHCI mode. If the OS allows you to get to a command prompt after a boot failure, you can run a disk checking utility (chkdsk on Windows for example)

    Linus, since Windows 8 you don't need to change any key on registry in order to OS recognize AHCI.
    Just make sure BEFORE doing, create a local account and set up windows to do next start in safe mode, change the setting on bios and wait for the system to boot up on safe mode, change to initialize again normally and done.

      Life is DEWG I see your point. I'll admit that I'm so used to Linus channeling his inner marketeer that I didn't even notice it until I read all these comments about it. Usually I'm too lazy to start skipping parts of the videos and don't mind a short and to the point sponsor message. Rather have it overt but separate from the main topic -- now that I think about it, the non-sequitur segues between segments regularly crack me up. I can see why others who tend to watch up until the sponsor outro then skip ahead would not enjoy that if it turned out to be a break with what has been an established viewing pattern they enjoyed.

    • @CommentCritic
      @CommentCritic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      I've already explained it, it does NOT belong at the end of the video.
      Most people click away before the video ends, just as the sponsor spot starts. Therefore it would be useless as an outro because only about >20% of the viewers would actually see it. They put it at the front they have the chance to grab the newcomers. The only middle man option would be to change it into a mid-roll asset that appears in ie. the top right-hand corner, and instead of the voiceover, we'd have short text lines.

    • @CommentCritic
      @CommentCritic 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1: If you don't like it, kindly fuck off. The pathetic thing is not the intro itself, but you bitching about a 10-second channel roll that can be skipped by pressing the right arrow twice (exactly 10 seconds forward).
      2: Not viewers new to TH-cam, but the Techquickie channel. Obviously, the subbed people wouldn't need to do it, but "outsiders" need this kind of encouragement, because as the statistics show, people like the video and fuck off, because its a one-off kind of scenario. They search up a problem, they get their answer and go away. Its the tech-savvy people that sub to this channel, they just want to get a little bit more knowledge about it.
      The whole idea behind putting the segment before the main part instead of after was explained before. If you still don't understand why, I can't really help the brainless.

    Most modern motherboards are already set to use AHCI by default. I know all the ASUS and Asrock modern boards I bought are already set to use AHCI. However, that doesn't mean all of those boards have AHCI enabled by default, I think it all depends on the manufacture and the BIOS version that comes installed on your board.

    Call me a moron, but I noticed sometime ago that my bios were set to boot my SSD in IDE mode instead of AHCI mode and, just as Linus shows in this video, I was welcomed to a blue screen when I attempted to load Windows 7 up in AHCI mode. All of this time, I've been content with running my SSD in IDE mode because I couldn't be bothered to reinstall Windows 7 under AHCI mode, which I had assumed was the only way to get this working.
    Thank you for this video. I followed the registry hack, set my bios to AHCI mode and here I am with Windows 7 working in AHCI mode. I'm anxious to see for myself if I have any bump in performance. :D

      You do know that when a video has less than 200 views it takes a while for TH-cam to accurately register how many views there are?

    • @Mallchad

    Couldn't install Linux from my bootable flash drive until I changed to AHCI. Am amazed at how fast an SSD (using AHCI) is. Love it, love it, love it.

    Calm down guys it's a 5 second intro. It's not the end of the world and remember the channel isn't made for you it's Made for everyone. Could be the first video for some people. It's 5 seconds quick and to the point give it a rest

    I had the opposite experience. I took a Windows 10 Pro system and installed XP on it. I kept getting the bluescreen until I changed the BIOS from ATA to AHCI.
    Good video.

    When I enable AHCI mode, I can't view HDD SMART data in speed fan or other SW. That is important to me to periodically check the health of my HDDs. Also I don't need to mess about with drivers. IDE mode just works and is more compatible.

      I don't need hot swapping and the apparent performance improvement is negligible.

    Where was this video two years ago when I ran into these exact issues when installing Windows from a flash drive onto a new SSD. It was a full year after that until I figured out the benefits of (and how to switch my install to) AHCI and GUID partition formats through hours of troubleshooting

    AHCI is supported out of the box on Windows Vista and later, Linux-based operating systems (since version 2.6.19 of the kernel), OpenBSD (since version 4.1), NetBSD (since version 4.0), FreeBSD (since version 8.0), macOS, eComStation (since version 2.1), and Solaris 10 (since version 8/07).[4] DragonFlyBSD based its AHCI implementation on OpenBSD's and added extended features such as port multiplier support. Older versions of operating systems require hardware-specific drivers in order to support AHCI. Windows XP and older do not provide support out of the box.

    So I've got 3 SSDs in my build that I have games and programs on.
    I've had my computer for about two years.
    So would you guys recommend checking BIOS to see what option they're on? Or should I just leave them alone?
    My OS win10 is on a separate M.2 drive.

    Experienced the same boot error (BSOD) when I changed the SATA mode from IDE to AHCI, so I reinstalled Windows. IDE is intended only for compatibility with Windows XP or older operating systems, as they do not have included AHCI drivers, and AHCI support is only introduced in Windows Vista.

      Mark Arca reinstall can be avoided by setting up safeboot in msconfig so it boots into safemode after changing to ahci in bios. After boots turn off safeboot and restart then ur done.

    I don't understand he has to spell out what PATA and SATA refers to but he makes quick reference to versions of chips sets and video cards as if everyone gets it. And thanks for this great video breaking it down too.
