    Nice! Indeed you're right to use some tapwater with your cococoir, high CEC and it holds on to calcium like crazy! I always up the cal/mag when using it.

    Love to see what all the different orchids lovers do with their orchids. I water from tap water...let it sit 24 hrs ...then soak them together in plastic containers that hold about 4 plants each for about 20 minutes...drain and sit back in the humidity trays and I do that once every couple weeks and in between I just put a little bit of water in the humidity trays and use fertilizer about 3 times a year. So far I've been doing this for 9 years without a problem. I tried to keep it as simple as possible 😁

    Please do a separate video sometime on growing Sedirea japonica and its varieties: "Minmaru Shima" "Minmaru" and "Seigyokumaru". I have had a hard time so far finding trustworthy information on growing these orchids so far.
    Many thanks in advance !

    Hi Dani: I've watched this video a couple of times and wrote down important steps and information. However, I do have a question - when you water between flushes (I think you said monthly) do you "water" the plants with water that has nutrient in it? It sounds like you do, but I'm trying to be clear about that so that I don't over-feed my orchids. I'll look forward to hearing from you. As always I very much look forward to any video you post. Best regards to you.

    Thanks Dani. After you flush, do you add more plain water? Or, do you fill the reservoir with fertilized water?

    I loooove the msu fertilizer. I currently use the liquid form and I just love it! Repotme is my go to site! I do have a question, do you prefer the granular to the liquid? I'm debating switching cause I go throu alot of fertilizer and it might just be me using to much or the fact that I'm using a little watering can to water my collections. Haha, granted I dont have as many as you! But I seem it go throu fertilizer really fast. As always great video ma'am, I've learned so much by watching your channel and appreciate everything you post!

    Hi Dani, have you ever tried 'Lewatit HD50' for fertilizing in semi-hydro?
    It is some kind of special resin soaked in fertiilzer. I was looking into it but have never tried it until just today when i received a small quantity of it.
    It sounds to me as if it had a lot of favourable properties such as: absorption of excess calcium (if using tap water), stabillizing pH on the lower side of the spectrum, delivery of macro- and micronutrients (but only on demand by the plant and that for long-term). I just received a small quantity and I am trying it on one of my Cattleyas. Not so sure how much of it is needed!? It would be really interesting to see how you and others find it though.

    Hi, I know my question has nothing to do with watering. So, this is my question I am in a northern environment and it does get cold here in the winter so can I grow a Vanda Miss Joaquim in my environment? Thank you for this video and all the ones you do it helps me with my orchids.

    A friend and I have been wanting to try out your self watering system, unfortunately we have to make do with what we can get here in South Africa. We're going to formulate a email soon to ask all the questions we have. But I think one that is related to this video would be, must the fertilizer be organic, or chemical, or fertilizers you can get at a hydroponics shop?
    Thanks for always making very informative videos

      @@kaitlinmcnally1052 oh no! i just added leca on top of my orchid soil today. Hope it doesn’t kill my plant. Did you add leca only or did you mix it with soil?

    • @kaitlinmcnally1052
      @kaitlinmcnally1052 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Orchids shouldn't be in soil unless they're terrestrial. I've used the leca we bought in media mixes since. We did leca only with homemade wicks and using containers/pots we put together ourselves.

    very interesting that you did such a in depth description of your water ph level. is this citric acid the liquid you put in the water for a ph down? xoxoL.

    I read or saw a video somewhere this week that said leca made with limestone increases ph and leca without limestone doesn’t. I haven’t done any further research yet.

    Where do you get your pots? Is it a self watering system or did you buy the inside pot to sit on the outside one? I can’t remember if you ended up doing that with the IKEA pots.

    Hi Danni, after your thoughts on these two. Firstly a Disclaimer lol - can't find the link I had to article for first one. 1 - It referred to orchid feeding and basically it stated that orchids only take up nutrients between 10am to 4pm. 2 - Interesting your comments on your Ph / ppm levels as I have seen many other videos that are constantly stating that 5.5 - 6.5Ph and 100ppm is the level to be feeding at. And lastly I will send some photos of an orchid I have which I think will make you gasp. If you can reply to this do you want photos now or later, reason I ask is it is not due to bloom till December.

      Hi, interesting, I am curious if it reffers to either CAM or C3/4 pathway orchids, there might be a difference. About the dosage well, opinions wildly differ, I observed that concentration is good in winter, in summer I would need more, that's just what happens in my grow room and my conditions :)

    I water all of my orchids with tap water. They dont seems go mind. My big phal has 10 leaves and it has 2 shoots one with blooms one flower is pollinated. All my orchids seem to do just fine wign my tap water.

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, not all tap water around the world is the same, some is inadequate for the long run, such as mine :) you need to know its parameters and understand why it works, otherwise you might move out one day and all of a sudden the orchids might start to suffer in your new home and you won't know why :)
