- Action from the final round of the 1998 Mintex National Rally Championship, which included an appearance by Alister McRae in a Subaru Impreza WRC as he prepared for that year's Network Q Rally GB. In typical Rally GB conditions, as it turned out.

Andy’s Peugeot Cosworth is such an iconic car. Made National Rallying even more exciting than Wrc events.

Excellent video, nice to see the large entry of teams, and a great era in rallying.
Stopping cars like the Burton Peugeot Cosworth competing took an entire community of competitors and fans away from rallying and I really can't see the sport recovering over here

World motorsport on sky was a great show. Showed loads of different championships from all over the world.
Agreed. Hopefully some more people have tapes of those shows that need conversion. Great variety.
VHS Rallies I recorded loads from world motorsport from 2003 - 2005. Some really good European championship stuff...then they went to the tip.... DOH!!

God. I remember going on that rally, horrible wet day, but good. We always enjoyed the Bulldog and Audi international, was a prelude to the RAC rally and occasionally you would get some of the big teams running in it. I remember on the Audi international once, we were making our way home after a good day out in the forests and we come across the ford service team, so we stopped for a look and a few minutes later stig arrived in he's RS200, then a little later Vauxhall turned up for service that was the first time I had seen a group s astra close up, obviously they were just using the rally for testing. Good days in rallying compared with now.

Did Sky Sports honestly broadcast coverage of the Mintex National championship back then? Or was this a one-off because Prodrive were fielding a works entry before the RAC?
Good question. I think they probably did do the whole Mintex series.
Sky Sports covered the Mintex Championship and the BTRDA for a few years on Andy Marriotts show World Motor Sports. I've got this on tape too aswell as the 97 and 99 Bournemouth Rallies, the 97 Tracktod and Bulldog aswell as the 98 Humberside and 99 Wyedean...great days! 😀👍
David Welford can you ‘lend’ them to this channel please? 😁 then we can all enjoy them! I remember watching the BRC in the late ‘00s on Sky Sports but I would have been only 10 when this was on so I don’t remember watching - but names like Dodd and Burton (and of course his 306 Cosworth) were familiar to me so I may have watched these rallies without any appreciation of what I was watching!
