I got a ball python last month and your channel has been a great resource. I also have a crested gecko, mourning geckos, and a northern blue tongue skink. Thank you for your content the quality is top notch and I appreciate all your advice and background of experience.
Hi, I would like to ask if I put the halogen lamp or deep heat projector on the top of the enclosure for the head heating. Would it heat up the temperature of the mesh? I am wondering my snake would touch the mesh, especially their head, when they climb.
No dumb questions here! So when you set up your enclosure, you’ll want to put your heat source on one end of the enclosure to establish the hot side. Then the other side without the heat source will be cooler and therefore become your cool side 😊
Very helpful. Just got 2 ball pythons, heating mat was recommended, not doing that now. I already had UVB, store recommended, going to get the halogen heating lamp like you suggested. Thanks
This has definitely been a little helpful but some links to those products would be nice. I have been going nuts over what lighting and heat sources to get
I started with a Ceramic heat emitter too before I did more research. I definitely recommend swapping for the halogen! You may need two of them depending on enclosure size. It’s definitely the best option! 😊
so can you say how I'd do a heat day cycle with halogen overhead ligh .t ??always heard 12 hr on 12 hr off ? as I know, they don't like light at night time ..
@@avaogaracorrect! I would recommend having the halogen lights on for 12 hours a day and then turn off at night for 12 hours. If your home drops below 68 you can use a deep heat projector for a heat source at night which emits no light 😊 Hope this helps!
im going to swap out that wire clamp light n bulb emitter tomorow .going to go with the dome lamp n halogen bulb u recommended ty.75 watt be fine.my enclosure 40 x 18 x18 .ty
How would you recommend having overhead heat with stacked enclosures? My 4x2x2s take up a lot of space so I have been considering stacking them but unsure how to heat the tank with such little space between them.
I’m considering an Arcadia IluminIZE for my ball python. I’m going to have the lights on top of the enclosure. I know I have to take in consideration that I’m gonna lose 30% of the UVB light. The basking spot is gonna be about 12 - 15” from the top of the enclosure. Do you think that a T5 7% is the best option?
and also.when u have halogen lamp on thermostat ..what happens when you turn off lamp at night ? does that effect the thermostat ? this heat issue been a headache to me 😮🐍
I don’t have a thermostat connected to mine right now. My house ten stay consistent and I just monitor temps with my infrared heat gun and digital thermometer that stays by his basking spot. You may want to unplug the thermostat at night!
I’m upgrading my ball python enclosure to a 4x2x2 and am set on using the Arcadia halogen flood lamp and already have the Arcadia ProT5 12% UVB kit…I know 12% is for a bearded dragon but can I use the hood to hold a 6% bulb? I accidentally bought this kit. Also, if you use 2 100 watt bulbs, do you have 2 thermostats? Do you keep a backup of different wattage of halogen lamps to use for the change of weather throughout the year? Can you give an exact list of products you use? I’m super new to this beyond what was in my starter kit. Sorry for all the questions!!
okay i got the halogen over head heat lamp 75 watt...house drops to bot 71dgr.at night. ( this after of coarse halogen turned off .)should i get a cermaic heat emitter for night ? wire clamp lamp or just halogen 12hr on 12 hr off..he be ok with cooler night temps ???your advice means alot 🐍💚
Yes a temperature drop at night is good for them! If your house stays around 70 degrees at night then that is perfect and you will need to heat source. If it drops below that, you can have a deep heat projector on at night as they emit no light 😊
Hey, I'm a new ball python owner and have deep concerns about the care of my snakes so I ask a favor to take the time to read and give your advice. I have six juveniles, and I've had them for six months and shorter. They are all in glass enclosures with a hide on both sides. I don't have a basking bulb, but instead, a reptizoo under the tank heat mat hooked up to a thermostat set to 90 degrees fahrenheit on their hot sides. I try to keep the ambient air temp in the room and enclosures at 80 degrees, but sometimes they drop down to 75. Not sure if this constant temperature throughout their enclosures is problematic due to a lack of an actual gradient. I've seen so much conflicting info about humidity, but so far I've tried to kept it at 60... Unfortunately I've had a shortcoming in this part of their care because they have been living in an average humidity of 54. But now I'm gonna try to keep it closer to 70 by spraying water on their fake leaves as necessary. Substrate is paper towels because it's cleaner and easy to switch out as necessary. They get fresh water every two days, and all eat a rat pup once a week. They don't seem dehydrated to me, and lately I've seen two of them soaking every day. My concern is in the fact that I've read they should shed around once a month, but all but one haven't shed in months... I'm wondering if my setup and husbandry is sufficient enough for the care of them. I'm worried about the lack of shedding and if this can result in sickness and the death of them. Not to mention some of them have two or three small yellowish orange spots where a scale is that look like potential scale rot (the snakes with this are all white) and they've had them since their last shed. Please be as critical as you can and tell me if this is OK and if I can do better.
I'm setting up a 4'x2'x2' PVC enclosure in anticipation of getting a ball python in a month or so. If I go with halogen bulbs, what wattage should I use? I've seen recommendations of 100 watts, two 75 watt bulbs, two 50 watt bulbs, etc... In the winter, my home stays at about 70 degrees F. Can anyone give a recommendation to get me close? Obviously I'll have to mess with the thermostats, dimmers, and timers to dial it all in, but where should I start?
I’ve been going nuts trying to figure it all out. Thank you so much! Planning on upgrading to a 4X2X2 here soon. I plan on using: 2 100W halogen bulbs And for UVB: Should I move up to the Acadia 6% forest bulb since the enclosure will be 2 ft high and I’m mounting them on top of the wire? Thank you!
Ive wasted so much money on supplies for my python because there seems to be 500 right ways to do this. I had no idea keeping a snake would be so fussy. The stuff just seem crappy. Even Arcadia has terrible reviews.
Ugh I totally get your frustration! I will say when it comes to UVB Arcadia and reptisun are the best I’ve found. But I totally agree, there’s so much conflicting information out there and a lot of crappy products which can make it so frustrating!
I just got a ball python always wanted one I'm gonna build a mini waterfall for it but anyway how do I tell it's sex? I've just been calling it dudeski it's kinda unisex😂😂
I really like this video. The specific topic and how thorough it was covered was appreciated.
Thank you so much!

I thought Dav Kaufman settled this debate when he went to Ghana, Togo, and Benin, and saw exactly how Ball Pythons live in the wild.
😂😂
Great video! Thank you for explaining the difference in heat sources. I’ve been using CHEs and will be in the future.

Get a “hood” that goes in between the stacked enclosures plenty to chose from online search around for what u need
I agreee with the other comment. Depending on the company you went through, many make stacking kits ☺️
