I lived in Almonte 1957-62. The Elementary school I went to on Church St is now apartments. My sister would stop in @ the Superior Restaurant after (High) school each day & get a Coke & fries for 25 cents. The Metcalfe Dairy still delivered milk by horse & cart. Even though I have been in Vancouver since 1964, I still have my Ottawa Valley accent. Thanks for the video.

Haha I (Dave) went to the Church Street School the year they closed it and opened up Naismith Memorial Public School. And I remember having Matcalfe’s milk delivered but they used a milk truck at that time. Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for commenting. D&J

Thank You for this trip down "Memory Lane" ... though some of what you showed definitely is NEW to me, having left Almonte about 40 years ago. The last time I was actually "in Almonte" was for a funeral at Comba's Funeral Chapel, and I didn't have time then to be a tourist . Then covid hit, and that ended any thoughts of travelling, but now I think it would be nice to see all of the changes in person, as well as some of the familiar landmarks!

Glad you enjoyed the video. We make it back there a few times a year. It has changed so much from what it was like growing up there as a kid and even over the past ten years. Some of the changes are positive. A lot are not IMO.

If poutine is zero calories, why do I need a nap after having it??? My son #2 loves it! I feel for you on the schools. Most of mine have been torn down or reused for other uses. The realization of what is there vs. your memories is certainly why they say: "You can't go home again."

Haha. Poutine is one of those guilty pleasures. Thanks for dropping by and leaving a comment. Much appreciated. D&J

Zero calories? I’ll take 2! We didn’t know basketball was invited in Canada. Waterfalls are so relaxing. How neat to go back and visit your home town.

Not invented in Canada, but the inventor was from Almonte. He was living and working in the US when he invented it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope your full time RVing plans are still on track. Best wishes. D&J.

NoFixedAddress we thought it was invented in Georgia. He used a peach basket as the hoop. Right? Awesome that he was from your hometown.

The peach basket does ring a bell.

FYI the Almonte War memorial was made by another Almonte lad, R. Tait Mckenzie, who designed several post ww1 memorials in The UK and the USA as well as this one in Canada. He and Naismith were fellow students at Almonte High School, back in the late 1800's. Some of Mackenzie's work can be viewed at the Mill of Kintail.
