      I'm deathly allergic to alcohol; can I use butterscotch and not "flame*on" it? And, 78% of the alcohol is left behind...😢

    Something to keep in mind when lighting the alcohol on fire is to not do it under the kitchen hood ^-^ even if it's not on flames still travel upwards and usually there's bunch of fat that sort of gunked in. That catches easily on fire and it's extremely hard to put out alone. Safe burning everyone

    • @anniemal8030
      @anniemal8030 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Real question, where do you do it then? Like hold the pan away until it burns up the alcohol? I don’t want to burn my house down

    I’ve always sliced the bananas into thicker coin size pieces, then I pour the sauce over the ice cream while it’s on fire. The ice cream, sauce, and fire almost crystallizes the sauce, and the texture is amazing! Add in the show of pouring the burning sauce over the ice cream, and it’s like you say, “ahhhhhhmazing”!! Also I love that you use Haagen Daas ice cream because I’ve tried other brands of vanilla, and it never tastes as good as with Haagen Daas!!

    There is/was a restaurant in Edmonton, Alberta called Da-de-o’s, this dessert was a signature dish there. They made it at the table, so impressive. Now I get why, their menu had lots of po’boy sandwiches too.

      I love Bananas Foster too! Had it for the first time at a great little French restaurant in West Lake, Ca. on Valentines. Our waiter made it at the table as well, I watched him make it, and made it at home a few days later. My recipe is a bit different but bet they are both awesome. Last time I made it, it was for about 12 people, so we scooped the ice cream into balls prior to dinner which worked out well. Makes me long for a huge dish of Blue
      Bell Homemade Vanilla smothered in Bananas Foster. If there are leftovers, it’s wonderful over pancakes.

      I had the opportunity to see it made at the table at a country club, “Secretary’s” day”! lol it was awesome, they also torched the crème brûlée, first time I ever ate that, fell in love instantly…

    When I was a kid, this was my favorite dessert. There was a high-end ice cream parlor in a fancy shopping mall in our city, and on special occasions like birthdays we’d go there. The flaming bananas were fun but it was the flavor that I loved. When I was in my 20s I tried to make this but it just wasn’t the same as what I remembered from childhood. 30 years later I can make a passable bananas foster but it remains one of those dishes that I like better when it’s prepared by someone else. I’ll have to give this version a try!

    If your ice cream is too hard just put it in the microwave for ten seconds or so. A nice addition to this dessert is adding banana liquor, rum extract and toasted pecans. I find it much easier to make this dessert by cutting the banana into smaller pieces, also easier to eat and the sauce covers the banana better.

    One thing I've learned about adding alcohol to a pan is you want to add it off heat then bring it back to the heat. It's more for safety and prevents the alcohol from igniting once it hits your pan.
