A lovely and talented man I had the pleasure to meet at th Gloucestershire and Warwickshire railway. I already had a couple of his wildlife prints and we chatted about Africa as i had been to many of the major wildlife areas.. I bought a couple of his Etchings and a print of 'last days of steam ' which he signed for me, then arranged for me to have a look around the footplate of Black Prince.. A more charming and dedicated man you couldn't wish to meet ..i was truly sorry to hear of his passing.. There are very few like him left ......
@4beatlefans David Shepherd has done a lot for railway preservation and wild life as you say. I would say he deserved a Knighthood before some of these so called entertainers. His talent and dedication will live on through his paintings long after the rest are forgotten... He gets my vote every time. Great man. T.
I think that is some what harsh. Unlike politicians and many other people he has actually achieved something that benefits an awful lot of people. The fact that his interviews may be similar reflects the fact that he has a definitive message to get out there and keep ramming home to make people listen. Politicians only do things first and foremost for their own good. Many of the individuals that interview him trot out the same unimaginative questions time and time again.
David Shepherd has done a huge amount for railway preservation and wildlife in his time; why has he not had a knighthood? Plenty lesser people have had them (my opinion) I have huge respect for the man. Sir David Shepherd...? (I like that)
Sad to know he passed away a couple of days ago, but so good that he left the NNR such a special engine.......
