This just makes me proud to be a Swede. :-) I actually live about five minutes from Fjällräven, and visit their outlet about twice a month. As you said, the quality is amazing and much of their gear is not only for life, but is handed down between generations. My 15-year old daughter actually wears a jacket that her grandfather bought about 50 years ago. Fjällräven is the pride of our town and it is very nice to see that their products are appreciated all over the world.
I envy you for living close to Örnsköldsvik. I never did, but realised early that Fjällräven's quality and versatility are very hard to beat, but you would then end up with the likes of Hilleberg, Lundhags, or Bergans 🙃. My first FR product was an absolutely minimalistic, but extremely lightweight tent (Okstindan 3): No comfort, but very compact, weighed only 2 kg (with additional pegs) and lasted well after 2 looong Lappland journeys. Ever since, I became more and more addicted by their quality products, with special attention to practical outdoor details, even though some of their more recent models (mostly trousers and shirts) probably had other clienteles in mind, especially in the late 1980s-early 1990s, but even today. Anyways, unless I dress formally, I usually carry around half a dozen FR items (wallet, briefcase/backpack, shirt, trousers, jacket, belt). And it feels as good as then...
In case nobody commented it yet: The rather odd colour name is taken from a fictional character from some of the children books by the Swedish author Elsa Beskow. Those books where published around 1915-20, but are still in print and popular. A Swedish TV - series based on the books in a silent movie fashion was popular in the 70's and gave nickname to all sorts of stuff among the kids, like the Police as one fellow Norwegian already mentioned.
I'm living Scandinavia and have used a lot of Fjällräven products, both jackets, tents, packs ect. Fantastic stuff for bushcraft! Really like the Uncle blue color. The jacket I use now when I'm out in the woods are Fjällräven Sarek Trekking Jacket (called Singi Trekking jacket now), in Olive green. I know Luke it's a pain to wax the jacket, but It's worth it. The paraffin in the Greenlandwax will form a protective layer on top of the G-1000 fabric and increase the durability, so it will last even longer! But I agree with you the Fjällräven products are pricey! Even though I keep on recommend and buying them. Looking forward to keep on watching your videos, so keep them coming! Happy new year!
I'm a flannel plaid man from way back; fashion only comes into play when I'm going to a "function" of some kind. Daily life "fashion" means ZERO to me. Luke, you tempt me to buy these products to the "nth" degree. I want dead-solid reliability, no matter what. "Buy once, cry once" is an excellent phrase when it comes to what's gonna keep you dry/warm/protected. Keep up the good work and Happy New Year to you and yours. I look forward to the announcement of your daughter's chosen branch of service. I'm sure you and your wife are exceedingly proud. As you say: strength and honor.
Good looking jacket. Fjallraven always has amazing quality on their products. I inherited a jacket from my aunt, it is almost 20 years old and still looks as good as New.
I bought one of the winter versions a few years ago on eBay and cut the winter liner out, but it got a few holes in, and fitted differently so after a while I put it in the loft. However I recently bought another on eBay and was gutted when due to postage it failed to arrive. So I have now bitten the bullet and bought one new. You are right about the colour choices, there are lots but I went for a dark green one which I can wax if I wish like my Barbour. Reason for liking them so much is they are just like a British military smock. I wore these for years in the field and they are the ideal jacket for the outdoors. The idea of wearing a waterproof all the time as an outer shell just in case it rains, is a very modern one and pretty silly if you think about it, but it's become the norm for most people. A wind proof cotton smock is a better, tougher option for the outdoors 80% of the time in a temperate environment. Fantastic review by the way, many thanks!
I really love this jacket a lot, very tough an strong, I also have quiet a few other jackets in the Fjallraven line, I wear while i'm out welding on the pipeline, sparks can fly and fall onto the jacket all they want, it's not leaving any of the tiniest burn marks, incredible jackets. I never wear anything but Fjallraven jackets, the most expensive one i have is the Expedition Down Parka that I been wanting to get for a couple years bit haven't because of the price, but I finally did 2 years ago and never regretted it, always kept me warm no matter how cold it got in extreme temperatures of Yukon Territory. -Jake
Awesome review Luke! Love my Greenland Jacket too. One thing i didn't like is the fact, that fjallraven sells this "summer" version and the winter version with teddy pile separately. For my understanding it's even more environmentally friendly, if you could zip the teddy pile in the summer version!
I saw you break wood over your knee... never do that as you have sensitive ligaments and such in your knee. (Not good if one of them snaps in the middle of nowhere.) An old trick i learned is to kneal down and break limbs over your thigh using your upper body weight if necessary. You can do this standing up as well. Anyways just a tip... love the video!! Cheers! :)
This Jacket on Amazon in the UK is £215.00. That's 290 USD at the International rate. Everything is so much more expensive over here but it does include all taxes. Great video, keep it up!
I have the Yupik parka and I gotta say, best jacket I've ever had the pleasure of wearing; so many pockets. I'm thinking about the Greenland for other seasons.
Fjallraven has become a fashion brand along with other companies like Canada Goose here in Japan. There are highschool students who have the back packs and parkas from Fjallraven. There are so many out door gear brands that I had never heard of until I came to Japan and am actually quite happy for getting exposed to higher end gear brands. Yet the usage for these types of out door gear is definitely not the intended purpose I would say.
I have the same Greenland jacket in olive I believe and I choose my ridgeline pintail smock over it every single time. Pick one up. Way better value for money too. You won’t regret it.
I've got a few pairs of Fjallraven trousers (pants) and I love them. I've also just bought a Kaipak jacket and I can't wait to wear it. I did consider the Greenland but I wanted an adjustable hood... I spend a lot of time hiking here in the UK - mainly in the Peak District, Scotland and on the South West Coast Path : lots of gorse bushes (very prickly!) and rock outcrops to slide over... never every worry about tearing the G1000 material. Fjallraven might be getting a bit fashionable in some people's eyes, but I really don't care. I wear what I like and what I can rely on.
I have the keb jacket and it has better hood adjustment and the storm hood which is great in snow storms. If it's cold I wear the polar fleece jacket under it. Yes, they are both expensive but forever. I suppose the greenland jacket is more durable, because it's without stretch. But it takes more time to aplly the wax :-D I think about the keb eco-shell jacket to wear in heavy rain. I found your channel some time ago when looking just for some Fjällräven reviews. :-) Many thanks, Luke, for all your videos in 2017, they were my favourite evening programme. I enjoyed your hikes in the beautiful forests there in America and wish to visit them one day. Wish you a happy new year! Greetings from Europe.
I grew out of the Greenland jacket, but got myself a (2nd hand, early model, no stretch, extremely rugged) Keb, which has proven to be as durable as the Greenland, but even more versatile and protective: Very long sleeves, over-sized hood, reinforced elbows. It looks a lot more 'bulky' than the current model, but that seems to fit my stature🙃.
Even though the video says it's not particularly lightweight, one of the great things about Fjällräven's Greenland jacket that it actually is, when durability, protection and versatility are taken into account. There is no unnecessary part, but it still provides great comfort and protection. Just have a look at the lower pockets, which are sewn so as to provide perfect availability and at the same time avoid loss of contents, without using a zipper. I bought mine in the early 1980s (when buttons were still nickel-plated and there was no inner pocket) and handed it to my daughter, 20 years later. The only disadvantage to me was the very snug hood (I have a big head ;-)), but that may have been resolved in later models.
ever heard of swazi .they are very good hunting/ bush clothing .not cheap but no where near the cost of fjallraven.$300 for a polyester /cotton jacket .a british army smock is 20 quid and made of the same stuff.god bless you and your family luke and a very happy new year and thanks for the great vidz .your the man .cheers china.atb.
Thanks for a great review! I've had and still have a number of Fjällräven products and clothes. The G1000 is one of the most versatile materials out there for "non-technical" stuff but there's just absolutely no way of making it waterproof without spraying some half toxic DWR stuff on it. The greenland wax gives a very disappointing result.. And yes, can't really justify the price tag on most of these products here in Scandinavia either. Happy new year Luke!
I've purchased and used(hiking, trekking, mountain running, scrambling) a lot of Fjallraven clothing. For my use their Abisko line of pants/beanies are the only items that remain in my kit. Sold everything else. The new Bergtagen line may change that but as you said, dat price tag. Looking forward to testing the lite insulation jacket next month on a few local summits. Trendy? They sell the Kaken! Nuff said. :) Happy New Year Luke!
ive got a good few bits of Fjallraven..but here in the UK we pay through the nose for it..like you said though it lasts you a lifetime so it’s well with the initial expense.Keep up the excellent work my friend strength and honour into 2018!
If you haven't already you should look into Carhartt jackets. They are incredibly tough and about $100 less then Fjallraven. A similar version of this Fjallraven jacket is $150 on their website currently.
The pants were the first product I bought from Fjallraven based on a previous review you posted. This jacket sure is on my list as well. I'm still considering between Gore-Tex or this, but longterm, this jacket would likely be a better investment. What do you think?
I'm the same. I own three pairs of Fallraven pants and they were all new condition/slightly used. They cost me about 1/3 of the new price. Keb, Vidda Pro and a lightweight summer pant that escapes me on the name. They all rock but I couldn't have afforded them at their full retail value. And having said that I do not believe after use they are worth their full retail value. Far from knocking the company, if that is their biz model all power to them and I have no doubt they will continue to thrive and part of that may be about remaining fairly exclusive. A lot of other companies have tried cheapening their gear for the masses including Macpac, Kathmandu (Australia Nwe Zealand) etc and it has not done their brand any favours given that they now have to present constant year round sales up to 60% off with heavy advertising to keep their business model alive.
Looks like a lot of the pockets can't be used when you've got a backpack with a waist belt on. Not big enough to fit a map in either? I think you've skipped over some of the cons on your list, even the lack of adjustment on the hood which you explained.
I like Fjallraven but it depends what you want. They make great heritage style stuff that's very durable. You're buying for years. Their stuff tends to be a bit more rugged and heavy than the intra lightweight set. Their parkas are brilliant & worth the investment.
I love Fjallraven jackets as well..have a Sten and Oban jacket. They are expensive but short of spending even more for a Barbour jacket you won’t get anything as durable. They have become a bit of a hipster staple in the big cities though.
I know atleast two other brands that makes the same kind of mix with polyester and cotton, lundhags got their pollycotton and a finish brand called sasta makes cotton and polyester clothes best wishes we often go for lundhags beacuse its cheaper same quality mvh
I have had several Greenland or Greenland-variant jackets from FJ, most bought in the days before the prices became totally ridiculous (in another century, that is). I hiked half of Sweden in the stuff. Still have some of it that I wear down to the bitter end (i slipped on one last weekend that, come to think of it, must be almost 30 years old). But when I bought my jackets and pants from them they were at least still made in Europe (Ireland). Now it all comes from Asia like practically every item of clothing from whatever brand. If anything the prices have gone up, taking it out of reach of ordinary people. It is indeed tougher (somewhat) than cheaper altenatives, but not ten times as tough. The last one I got, in a sale at a major discount, is the one you show off here, but in black. It's OK, good material, but no longer my favorite - I usually wear a polycotton smock jacket from another brand, mostly because it has more pockets, and that one holds up pretty well. I did wax it with Fjällräven Greenland wax though, and that seems to increase its toughness. If you can find FJ gear (little) used, or at a huge discount from a store that destocks it, go for it. At the list prices, I wouldn't nowadays. Like Luke, actually.
I have been wanting one of those parkas. I have my grandfather's old parka I was wondering if you have ever heard of this company called - IL UOMO MODO I guess it is model - il passaggio del mondo. It is made very similar in design to the parka you are wearing in video as far as style and pickets and its flannel lined and has a very interesting big logo with a Bush plane inside with red an black flannel liner and hood in collar. It is pretty cool just a little to small for me.
Luke is there three poachers pockets on the inside like the old British army issue windproof?, guess I should've watched the whole video before writing, I'll be sticking with my arktis windproof better and cheaper in my view, 15 years of good use and still going strong.
Watching this in 2021 Fjallraven changed the fit of The Greenland a few years ago I used to take a size M but now need a L as they are a slimmer fit, the winter jacket is great but may be a little too warm for hiking.
Word, Luke! Fjällräven is a fantastic brand of a vide range of clothes. Pricey, yes. But extremely rugged, well thought through and sound in many ways. Thanks for a good review! Happy new year!
Luke I'm a tad confused I'm not sure if I heard you right, but I thought you said you bought it back in 2016, but then you said at least a couple of times you've used it for "Year's " um it's only we'll just about 2017 so depending on the month you bought it like if January 16 then it will be 2 years in January 18. Am I being a little bit picking sorry, maybe you said you got it in 2006 not 16 and I miss heard
Hay Luke! Happy New year to u and yours! I have one problem with ur reviews in a big guy I wear a 2xl if cut big then if not 3xl so please let us know if they have XL sizes! Thanks
It all depends on what your usual situation is now that we get more rain in fall and winter it’s not a useful coat. Tried waterproofing but the hood is very leaky (only one layer of G1000). Trying to wax it from the inside now. A wax coat works better in Western Europe I guess. But the famous brands like Barbour are just as expensive and maybe less durable and warmer.
Hi there. I used sofsole on my Kuhl jacket and it didn't work very well. I would say 5 out of 10. Didn't use Scotchguard, but would not recommend Sofsole
Hey Luke, maybe you want to check out the russian Gorka suits (if you haven't already). Quite similar in function to Fjällraven clothing but much cheaper and you get pants and a jacket/annorak depending on the model.
I agree, the brand is seen as a bit of a designer label, but its very hard wearing and will last the owner many years. Good quality clothing is expensive, but Fjallraven is one of the most expensive brands here in the Uk, so you do not often see people wearing it. Not because they have not heard about it, but because the list price of most of their clothing is prohibitively expensive. Its still superb quality, so maybe a worthy investment for a very keen walker
Brilliant review! I have been looking at Fjallraven products for a while now but Im yet to take the leap, mainly because of the price. For me in the British climate, I think the G1000 fabric would be fantastic, however I would like slightly more adjustment on the hood. Dominic
I do love Fjallraven ... just a pricey product. So like you, Luke, I look on Ebay and other sites for best deals. Thanks for the Vid. As always great work.
My Fjällräven Räven jacket (same jacket basically, but with roll-up hood, pleated shoulders, reinforced elbows) arrives tomorrow and I plan on using the sh*t out of it. Cheers!
@@mikeduncan2976 The stow hood is much better than I expected. It appears to be made of a different material that I dont believe needs the wax impregnation to stay water resistant. I'll check again in the daylight, as I am currently camping and wearing it as I type this 👌 also I think the chest pockets are bigger, and I believe this jacket is just slightly more bulky than the other. Let me know if you need any more info, I have it in green, in medium size.
@@m_hibbs Have you seen the changes they've recently made to the Raven jacket? I also got mine a couple years ago and I think our older versions are preferable. Got mine in Dusk, wear it all the time.
certainly nice jackets but for me much too expensive, and not only that, but I think they are asking much too much for too little (for instance this jacket does not have any adjusting system for hood or collar, not that many pockets, and these are also not big enough) when I need a firm polyester-cotton jacket for the forest or for sitting or working near the fire (a no-go for synthetics) I much rather use a british army smock, a german army parka or a finnish army Särmä smock, all of which cost a fraction of the Fjällräven, have tons of pockets, adjustable hood and collar, and can also be waxed very easily! NO I would not buy the Greenland jacket! The Fjällräven G1000 pants however, even being pricey, are another story...
i´m from Sweden and have a mix of Nordic outdoor gear from Fjällräven, Haglöfs, Lundhags and Urberg all are making very well in all weathers. So buy Nordic stuff and be safe out there
I have some pairs of Fjallraven's trousers, very happy with them! Also tried their jacket, but just like you, I have to keep saving a bit longer before I can effort it. Lovely stuff!
i love my Keb pants. They're pricey but so worth it when I'm slogging through deep snow and can unzip those side panes, while they shed snow and water with ease.
Luke which ffyallraven garmets are for extreme cold trousers and jackets i have the vidapro trousers nots so good for winter to snowshoe. Love your channel (northern ont. Canada ) thanx
For winter use I would go with Sarek bib trousers and for example Skogsö jacket. Use them as shell garments and layer some merino wool or down under them. Greetings from Finland.
I like my Vidda Pros. Wore them the other day for snowshoeing and it was great! Love the elastic cuffs and gaiter hook to keep them from riding up! No long johns worn underneath. Around 0degF.
I think a vintage military style jacket does the same thing for a lot less money to be honest, m65 jacket in olive or woodland camo for example or my personal favorite 1980 style bundeswehr parka. Fjallraven makes super nice stuff but in the end the G1000 material everyone seems to love is nothing else then what the military is using. (probably slightly better, but it should be for the price.)
I do enjoy fjallraven, however the material is easy to find. The British windproof smocks and pants are the same polycotton blend % as fjallraven g1000. It's not as good but it's very close for a much lower price tag. I have a nice wool sweater I got for cheap on ebay. Can't ever pass up a good fjallraven deal!
I like that the high prices discourage the insane consumerism that´s going on. You only buy what you really need from them. I was lucky enough to find my Greenland jacket on a 40% discount, very happy about that :-)
I think the only downside to these jackets is, that they don't a collar that seal up your neck when you need to. Like when it's very windy or cold. It should have collar, with the hood attached. Because a hood is like a must in bushcraft activities.
Before your channel I never heard of them but like you said though I think it's becoming a trend. I've seen a couple of people now wearing jackets or backpacks but they've all been women in mid 20s on a suburban train station platform heading into the city. They did not seem outdoorsy although I could be wrong.
Lol, Luke you say you don't give a $#** about fashion... but, you know this jacket looks good 🤣. FYI, not all the product is made in China. My granit shirt is made in Portugal.
LOL. But my G1000 Heater and Nordic Heater hats (Got them on GOOD sales!!) ARE made in good old CHINA, along with lots of other things from them. :o) But they go fro the best manufacturing contracts too of cause, as all others also do. :o)
that vid you did way back on the Barrett pro trousers that u got from the clymb was my introduction to fjallraven since then i have purchased 6 pair of pants and one shirt thanks luke you the DAMN MAN!:-) p.s luke you need to get a pair of the arktis insulated pants they are made g1000 HD im pretty sure they could withstand a attack of angry polar bear LOL!!!
No experience with this brand. However, I totally agree with the fashion comment! Lastly, the guarantee ain't worth a crap after the SHTF anyway. Happy New Year!
I think I paid about 100 dollars almost 30 years ago for Patagonia synchilla fleece if I remember correctly. I still have it and it looks good. That would be about 200 now.
I have one myself in cork/sand def awesome jacket, I Also have a pair of the pant's and the G-1000 material is tough stuff..On a side note, I have had a pair of kuhl pants that I've rocked in the bush and in everyday life for the last 3 YEARS...And their still going strong, ATB FOR 2018
Expensive, 20 year old fabric technology. Better multipurpose, cheaper options are available. Why would you spend that much on a jacket that is not water/wind proof...or even that warm?
British Army Windproof smock is a far better choice. This jacket looks nice and it's not camo but the windproof smock has pit zips, better pockets, looser fit for layering, two way zipper, and a wire hood with full adjustment. It's is the best outdoor jacket made. Varusteleka has their own version in black or green that would be a good option if you don't want camo.
Just got myself a keb jacket by fjallraven what a fantastic woods and backpack jacket check it out . Yes a lot of money 💰 but you pay for what you get £255 in price uk 🇬🇧 but great jacket. Out on hills with it tomorrow New Year day give it’s first test . Love the pants but just too long in the leg for me. Yes not cheap but great gear. Cheers man have a good 1 . ⛺️👍
How do you like the KEB? I've been seriously looking at that one and this Greenland. I really like the look of the KEB more and like the no pockets around the waist area for the backpack waist belt. Is that why you chose the KEB?
Nice jacket. Would love to own one myself. But there is a more bombproof company made in the good ol USA. Don't forget about filson. I wouldn't trade mine for the world
As you said before extremely extremely pricey but yes by one it's a lifetime I do not have one yet nor will I ever get one because of the price but they are very damn good pants on the same way too damn pricey but those come at least waxed where you have to get the Greenland wax and do the coat yourself
Happy New Year!!! Seen you wear this jacket, and thought, that a review would come. :o) I have a few Fjällräven shirts and hats, and though good, I think, that the brand is way overpriced. This 65% polyester / 35 % cotton fabric, that they use, is some of the cheapest fabric out there, much cheaper than eg. polyamide. You can get a lot of tactical clothing or hunting clothing in this fabric, much cheaper, and at around same quality IMHO. Also in single colors. Tru-Spec, Propper eg. And Deerhunter, Swedteam, Pinewood and others makes both trousers and jackets. BUT one have to accept hunting colors of cause. Green, Brown and maybe tan + sometimes safety orange at best. No blue and yellow and so. Links in the "answer" below. Nice day!!
And here. Tru-Spec BDU. Choose a single-color black, grey whatever, same fabric can even be chosen, two weight classes. Go to a Taylor and get some metal buttons pressed in. Cost only a little. Pockets, front opening and so, Then one have basically the same jacket, just without the hood. So much cheaper??? Nice day. www.truspec.com/uniforms/battle-dress-uniform-bdu/bdu-coat
And again. Even some cheap Mil-Tec pants in black or green. 21 $ in UK. Plastic buttons, but same material, and come on, Fjällräven get their stuff made in China too, of cause. Go to a Taylor and get a few metal buttons pressed in as said, and re stitched, if the stitching opens up. One can get almost 10 pairs for the price of 1 Fjällräven pant. Same material almost, only buttons are sew on plastic and not press metal. BUT for the budget guys, functionality counts. Then let the fashion guys about fashion. IMHO. Nice day. www.epicmilitaria.com/us-ranger-bdu-trousers-olive.html www.epicmilitaria.com/us-ranger-bdu-trousers-black.html
And here, Russian Gorka suits and more in 50% polyester / 50% cotton fabric. Canadian buttons and strong Velcro all the way. :o) So many other options. :o) 80 $ for a suit: kamuflage.ru/en/odezhda-letnjaja.html?currency_id=1 kamuflage.ru/en/kostjum-gorka-chernaja.html Anorak: kamuflage.ru/en/kostyum-gorka-4-anorak-oliva.html kamuflage.ru/en/kostjum_gorka-4_anorak_rip-stop_chernaja.html Sniper suit. Little lighter and cheaper. 4 big pockets 63,75 $ a suit: kamuflage.ru/en/kostyum-snajper-2-rip-stop-oliva.html kamuflage.ru/en/kostjum-snajper-2-rip-stop-chernyj.html Anorak: kamuflage.ru/en/kostjum_snajper-2_anorak_rip-stop_s_nalokotnikami_i_nakolennikami_chernyj.html
Living in scandinavian i've had a lot from this brand but there's just better and cheaper alternatives. I think its severely overpriced and as technical as what you got in the 70s . Happy new year .
+Robert Steward. I am not an expert, but to me, it depends on, what you want. If you want to make fires and so, of cause you need spark resistant clothes. That rules out pure polyester and polyamide/Nylon clothes. Wool and cotton blend fabrics needed. If you go for extreme cold, yes, Fjällräven, but also others, makes some really good and expensive expedition jackets and pants, and down jackets too, but for general hiking and so, you can get by cheaper at same quality by buying eg. hunting clothes. See my other comments for links. Also brands like the UK Montane www.montane.co.uk/ Swedish Haglöfs www.haglofs.com/gb/en-gb/ I can get on sale for much better prices, in Denmark where I live, BUT they mainly use pure polyamide and polyester for clothes so not for fires, only climbing, skiing and so. Also like Jack Wolfskin Germany can be found on sale cheap sometimes : www.jack-wolfskin.com/ And this: www.klattermusen.com/en/ Environmental friendly too. So many brands. Look eg. here: www.outnorth.com/brandpages Eg. this Danish shop. www.friluftslageret.dk/brands/ Good sales prices sometimes Ships world wide. Translate site with this: eg: translate.yandex.com/ SO many options. Nice day. :o)
I'm also living in Scandinavia. I would like to know which alternatives are better and cheaper? I know of some, that are cheaper, and of some that are equal in quality, but certainly not cheaper.
There is made in China and then there is made in China (or Asia) by Fjallraven (and others). I've worn a pair of Barents Pro pants for over 350 miles of rugged hiking in Shenandoah National Park. A single pair is all I have worn, over and over and over again, and they look like new. The waxing process for fall/winter/spring is easy and not really that time-consuming. It probably takes about 30 minutes for me to wax a garment. By far my favorite piece of technical clothing from Fjallraven is their Greenland Anorak. I wear the Anorak all the time. In fact, I wear it so much I am thinking of getting another one just to mix up the colors. You can find Fjallraven at steep discounts if you are patient.
You made your point on your own channel pointing at a FjällRäven windbreaker saying it doesn’t feel waterproof. You have to stick to your wisdom if you can’t deal with arguments.
I'll stick to my good old trusty M65. Built like a tank and I waterproofed it. Got it and the button in liner for 65 bucks. And let me tell you it gets hotter than a whorehouse on nickel night even in 30 degree weather.
best jacket ever, got mine jan.1980 in woodland,12yrs of hard use,11B used for camping, work and still good to go. does have patches over elbows, lots of rounds fired. LOL
Anyone else not give a $h** about fashion? - Luke
Fashion is pointless. I care about function and purpose on almost anything i buy. 👍🏻
Hell no! Who’s out to win a beauty contest in the wilderness ! Lol
Functionality above fashion always for me. Most of my clothing allows me to CCW and is camo or dull outdoor colors.
See my other comments. :o)
...function....purpose....durability...fashion can stay on MTV...!!
This just makes me proud to be a Swede. :-)
I actually live about five minutes from Fjällräven, and visit their outlet about twice a month.
Vart ligger deras outlet? 😃
@@rasmuslind98 I Örnsköldsvik.
Hett resmål för typ hela norra Europa. 😁
Teddy pile? :)
Fjallraven/Fjällräven = The Mountain Fox! And Fjallraven is a part of fashion in Scandinavia actually
Cheers! :)
I don't break sticks in the woods at all. You never know where they are going to end up. A piece in the eye? Use a small ax or big knife or machete.
But it takes more time to aplly the wax :-D
I think about the keb eco-shell jacket to wear in heavy rain.
I found your channel some time ago when looking just for some Fjällräven reviews. :-)
Many thanks, Luke, for all your videos in 2017, they were my favourite evening programme.
Can you wear it around the fire at night and not worry about sparks and embers burning a hole through the jacket ? Thank you inadvance .
ever heard of swazi .they are very good hunting/ bush clothing .not cheap but no where near the cost of fjallraven.$300 for a polyester /cotton jacket .a british army smock is 20 quid and made of the same stuff.god bless you and your family luke and a very happy new year and thanks for the great vidz .your the man .cheers china.atb.
Great video, how tall are you and what is your chest size if you don't mind me asking??
In Norway we call the police; uncle blue :)
lol run from the police they are never good
Haha farbror blå
In Sweden as well, definitely a reference :)
That's nice. In England people call them the pigs. And then they wonder what's wrong.
Are the flaps on the lower pockets just for show or do the conceal a third pocket?
Great brand! Have had mine Greenland 7years and it still looks pretty new. Love their products.
Your reviews are the best. Thorough and fair.
Tenson have jackets (and other clothes) with polyester and cotton mix.
How do you like that northface summit series jacket? If you're really cold, would it be your go to insulator?
I love Fjallraven clothing too. You can use services like lyst to find their products at 50-60% discounts, but you must be patient.
Luke is there three poachers pockets on the inside like the old British army issue windproof?,
guess I should've watched the whole video before writing, I'll be sticking with my arktis windproof better and cheaper in my view, 15 years of good use and still going strong.
It secure for smoker?
Hay Luke! Happy New year to u and yours! I have one problem with ur reviews in a big guy I wear a 2xl if cut big then if not 3xl so please let us know if they have XL sizes! Thanks
In Hong Kong, it is a trendy brand.I can't put up the price tag they put on their products.
Trendy = higher price
Thanks for the review. Fjallraven products are awesome but extremely pricey. I was able to find this jacket on eBay for $50 so thanks for that tip.
What do you think about Scotchgard on that fabric?
Hi there. I used sofsole on my Kuhl jacket and it didn't work very well. I would say 5 out of 10. Didn't use Scotchguard, but would not recommend Sofsole
I'm a 3x size guy, I wonder if their version of 3x ( if available) is a USA 3x you know what I mean? I've been burnt before on stated sizes.
hello luke. that is a promissing review. can i ask you how tall you are? ...just to get an idea what S fits. thank you.
Hey what size are u wearing?
Nice review on the jacket, I'm on a hunt for my next jacket and got this brand on my list. Btw what pant are you wearing? Nice one too. Thanks!
No you can't make it waterproof! I triple waxed mine and it soaked through in 45min in moderate rain.
certainly nice jackets but for me much too expensive, and not only that, but I think they are asking much too much for too little (for instance this jacket does not have any adjusting system for hood or collar, not that many pockets, and these are also not big enough) when I need a firm polyester-cotton jacket for the forest or for sitting or working near the fire (a no-go for synthetics) I much rather use a british army smock, a german army parka or a finnish army Särmä smock, all of which cost a fraction of the Fjällräven, have tons of pockets, adjustable hood and collar, and can also be waxed very easily! NO I would not buy the Greenland jacket! The Fjällräven G1000 pants however, even being pricey, are another story...
Does the bottom pockets[5;03] have lips on the bottom/inside so things in them does not fall out if you lay on your back or side.
i´m from Sweden and have a mix of Nordic outdoor gear from Fjällräven, Haglöfs, Lundhags and Urberg all are making very well in all weathers.
Canada ) thanx
lgwjr white Look out for the new Bergtagen collection from Fjallraven.
Greetings from Sweden, home of Fjallraven. :)
For winter use I would go with Sarek bib trousers and for example Skogsö jacket. Use them as shell garments and layer some merino wool or down under them. Greetings from Finland.
Fredrik Holmberg thank you
Teemu Ronni thank you
I like my Vidda Pros.
Happy new year Luke
This was an awesome review, I just got their vidda pro pants and I must say I’m pretty impressed!
I have a few pairs of Fjällräven trousers and two Fjällräven jackets. The quality is superb, design brilliant, the problem is price.
what is your jacket size and the sleeve lenght?
I like that the high prices discourage the insane consumerism that´s going on. You only buy what you really need from them. I was lucky enough to find my Greenland jacket on a 40% discount, very happy about that :-)
I think the only downside to these jackets is, that they don't a collar that seal up your neck when you need to.
Like when it's very windy or cold.
It should have collar, with the hood attached.
Because a hood is like a must in bushcraft activities.
Raven jacket is similar to what you're talking about. It is collared, but also has a packable hood.
I have the same jacket and really enjoy it. Glad i bought it.
Before your channel I never heard of them but like you said though I think it's becoming a trend. I've seen a couple of people now wearing jackets or backpacks but they've all been women in mid 20s on a suburban train station platform heading into the city. They did not seem outdoorsy although I could be wrong.
Anybody have opinions or experience with Kuhl?
Happy New Year Luke! 2018 let's go to Canada!
No experience with this brand. However, I totally agree with the fashion comment! Lastly, the guarantee ain't worth a crap after the SHTF anyway. Happy New Year!
Good review. Too expensive and non-typical sizing keep this one off my shopping list. Happy New Year.
Have you ever worn any Carhartt, or Alpha Industries coats. Also i couldent care less about fashion, im a blue jeans and t-shirt guy.
The zip through collar ruins it for me. I don't want to be hit in the face with the flap all the time.
I think I paid about 100 dollars almost 30 years ago for Patagonia synchilla fleece if I remember correctly. I still have it and it looks good. That would be about 200 now.
Is the fox patch on arm removable ? Can I cut it off?
Love FR and that jacket, I have the Ken’s and Vida pros and just bought a beanie all FR I would love a jacket
What options are better?
British Army Windproof smock is a far better choice. This jacket looks nice and it's not camo but the windproof smock has pit zips, better pockets, looser fit for layering, two way zipper, and a wire hood with full adjustment. It's is the best outdoor jacket made. Varusteleka has their own version in black or green that would be a good option if you don't want camo.
Yes. :o) www.varusteleka.com/en/product/sarma-windproof-smock/34637
Happy new year like :)
Nice day!!
Deerhunter Lofoten and Rogaland lines also in 65% polyester/ 35% cotton, except fleece of cause:

Quick search for Tru-Spec 24/7 pants, for the budget outdoorsman. www.amazon.com/TRU-SPEC-Mens-Lightweight-24-7-Pant/dp/B016TIHCA2
IMHO. Nice day.

Cheers from Sweden! 🇸🇪🌲👊
Living in scandinavian i've had a lot from this brand but there's just better and cheaper alternatives. I think its severely overpriced and as technical as what you got in the 70s .
Happy new year .
Downside Up which are the better options? Thanks!
Nice day. :o)
Thanks for all the input!
Robert Stewart ridgeline. Hands down the best field jackets in the world in. My experience. Great value for money too.
I'm also living in Scandinavia. I would like to know which alternatives are better and cheaper? I know of some, that are cheaper, and of some that are equal in quality, but certainly not cheaper.
I've looked into their stuff but it's freakin made in China. Come on man!
Absolute Veteran some of their products are made in Canada
You made your point on your own channel pointing at a FjällRäven windbreaker saying it doesn’t feel waterproof.
You have to stick to your wisdom if you can’t deal with arguments.

I'll stick to my good old trusty M65. Built like a tank and I waterproofed it. Got it and the button in liner for 65 bucks. And let me tell you it gets hotter than a whorehouse on nickel night even in 30 degree weather.
Codename Hannibal it has a hood but it's not insulated
I miss the days of Nickel Nights...... :D - Luke
best jacket ever, got mine jan.1980 in woodland,12yrs of hard use,11B used for camping, work and still good to go. does have patches over elbows, lots of rounds fired. LOL
Looks likes brass, my be steal, not plastic, like both.
So old that the first of two that I was issued at ft. Jackson was o.d.
Hmmm…if economy is your consideration then a surplus M65 field jacket would do the same thing but at a much cheaper price!…..👍
I have a couple of Fjallraven garments and I want more!
