Wow I've been also dealing with back surgeries sine 1992. I have 6 level corpectomy cervical fusion and a 5 level lumbar fusion. And now my surgons are going to fuse my thoracic spine and connect both fusions so I will have a spine exactly like yours only thing different surgons is going to anchor it all to my pelvis with heavy cobalt chrome rods and very heavy duty screws.!! I'm having this big total spine surgery here in the end of AUGUST 2023. SO ITS WEEKS AWAY.. LOVED YOUR STORY.!! THANKS FOR GREAT VIDEO.!!! JOHN, MINNESOTA
Did you not notice his X-ray taking up full screen @ 5:42?!?... It is a Clear image showing , He also has #4- #6" Titanium Lag Screws connecting his spinal column to the pelvis..It is standard procedure with full fusion.
Wow Joe, gives me hope as I have an s shape 2- 60degree curves & 80 kyphosis....I'm so over it....the neck pain is horrible and thoracic pain...so glad you made out sooo well& have your life back....thanks fr sharing...
I'm 50 & female & also have severe degenerative scoliosis with kyphosis & hump on right side of back. Like you been I've been through injections & pain management but the bottom line is surgery will be the only option to correct deformity & hopefully stop the pain. I've seen two Neurosurgeons & both have different approaches. One says minimally invasive with posterior approach. The other says nothing minimally invasive about my issue and wants to go through posterior & anteriorly. From t8-Sacrum. First though I have a Total Hip Replacement on April 27th 2021 to correct a severe degenerative arthritis hip that's bone on bone. My doctor's too & everyone who sees my scans can't believe I can get out of bed everyday. Your wife is a gem! Your right support is key. My identical twin sister is recovering from a cervical spine 360 with 4 levels w/compression & to fix congenital kyphosis. The apple never falls far from the tree😊 Shes doing wonderfully & it's just the two of us for support. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'm also in New York & I know the weather has been beautiful so hopefully your walking more & feeling stronger💪🏻. God speed to you & yours🙏🏻
Thank you for the note and I wish you all the best. Finding the right doctor and facility is the key. I've watched many presentations by top physicians and most say they are moving aware from Anterior procedures but I'm sure each case is different. I went to three doctors as mentioned in the video and they all agreed on what needed to be done so that made my decision a little easier. I just walked two miles at the local park where a year ago there would be no way possible. I would get to where I couldn't breathe anymore from the pain. Thank fully that is behind me (small pun there). I wish both you and your sister all the best.
I'm so glad you're doing so well. I have scoliosis too, and I'm 63 years old. Have done well for years, and now having nerve issues in the leg and foot. I'm probably going to end up with the same surgery as you. Thanks for sharing and your video made me feel like there's hope.
Hi Patty, thank you so much for the comment. Comments like yours make it worth the time and effort to put that video together. It's not an easy journey but it is a worthwhile one should you go forward as I did. I have no regrets and no pain. Each week it gets better. I lived with pain far too long. Take care, Joe..
All the best to you. There will be some days more difficult than others. It takes time but constantly improving and no regrets. I can do so much more now than I could for years. You will do fine!
@@joesantacroce It went great. I lost a lot of blood and stayed in the hospital for 11 days. I had no use of my left side when I came out but doing pretty well as of today. Rehab has been difficult because 6 days after my surgery, my son 43 yo, who had come to stay with me suffered a massive heart attack and passed away. I couldn’t even go to the funeral. And now his ex wife(mother of my grandchildren) has cut them off from me. So… truthfully, my surgery has been the least of my concerns. It is amazing how many screws etc they put in… if I knew how to post a photo of it I would. Hope all is well with you.
Doing well thanks. It's still something I am always aware of. I've had to find different ways of doing things. Seems like now more than ever I drop things which requires kneeling down on my knees to pick up. I have to squat a lot instead of bending and the knees sometimes feel it. But overall doing well and still pain free for the most part. I have some more aches and pains or occaisonal stiffness but part of that is related to other issues including age. No regrets...
Great video Joe! I just read my X-Ray evaluation of my spine. Early stages, and some things are marked, "Maintained" which is good I guess. No Spondylolisthesis, and no Spondylolysis...I do have a Compression Fracture at L1 48% height loss it says. L2 and 3 endplate degenerative changes lumbar spine. I'll send you the report.
You helped me. Meeting with the surgeon in 5 days. Tests all done. Decision time is here. You calmed me down. Thank you.
Thank you for the note and I wish you all the best. It's been 2.5 years for me and things still continue to improve.
