To be fair, Salem is not trying to kill humanity. If that was her goal, she could have done it any point over the many centuries. ATLAS was the strongest city humanity had ever built since the gods left, and Salem destroyed it in a weekend. If she had wanted to end the world, she could have done it. In my eyes, her goal is to get the relics and summon the gods so that she can finally die.

You know in cosmic sort of way,, RWBY could have been the satire turned classic of common tropes found in Shouen. The major conflicted can be summed up as the most immature depiction of GOD, a villain who embodies all evil but literally just sits around, and all leading to terrible divorce.

And we've seen what Ruby's silver-eyed warrior powers did to the Wyvern which was petrified at the top of Beacon Tower, and the Leviathan attacking at the end of Volume 6. Not sure what's going to happen after the episode that dropped on 4/8/2023 yet, but that's been my theory for a few years now.
while ruby can absolutely harm her, you're missing the other part of the curse "you must learn the importance of life and death. only then may you rest." it'll be hard to get through to her in her state, but perhaps being purged of the grimm power would leave her in a vulnerable enough state to actually listen
It actually would've been great if ruby brought up some of these things in that moment instead of immediately breaking down because of basically a yo mama joke would've made her have a bit more spine and it would've probably been a Great moment but nope writers did not allow
