I absolutely love the way Revy cares for Rock here. The way she screams at Rock telling him not to look at Yukio. It’s something you could easily brush off, but Revy realizes that the way she looks at death and the way Rock looks at death are completely different. She knew how much it would effect Rock and tried to shield him from it. I fucking love this show
Revy telling Rock to look away is really telling, about Revy's feelings about Rock. The Japanese dub is a bit more clear, she tells him, "You'll become damaged." Revy wants Rock to stay how he is, innocent, at least by Roanapur standards, and undamaged.
The innocent Rock was already gone by the time they went to Japan. If the innocent Rock was even there at all... Rock veiws Yukio as Revy veiws him, too innocent for the underworld. Right before Yukio killed herself he had to make a speech to her, pretty much him telling her he was right. He watched her commit suicide to prove his point.
Random Cat sorry, I worded something badly. So yes, Rock is not innocent, by far. I would argue that there is still relative good in him by this point, but in my original comment that’s not what I was talking about. Revy sees Rock as innocent. She has an idealized view of who he is, because (not that she would ever admit it, or perhaps even be consciously aware of it in the first place) she has a bit of a white knight complex with Rock. Revy hates Roanapur, she hates living the way she does, and she hates herself. Revy, on some level, sees Rock as somehow capable of redeeming her, saving her, from her current place in life. It’s because of that that she overlooks the changes in his personality, whether that choice is conscious or not, and doesn’t want him to be “damaged”, even if in reality, he already is.
Deep down, Revy still cared for Rock's innocence; yelling at him not to watch Yukio kill herself and just look at Revy. Now that he has seen first hand the ugliness of someone's life being ended by their own hand, there's no turning back for him.
The voice acting in the show was amazing, one of Ocean Studios finest works. Too bad they no longer get casted to dub anime anymore, would be nice if Funimation or Crunchyroll would give them a few anime to work on.
@@thomasraines1396 The main reason is cost. Majority of anime dubs are made from non-union productions and tend to have limited funding when making a dub. Non-union dub actors are cheaper to hire and cost less to produce. Ocean Studios is all Union work which means they cost more to hire, hence why we never see them dub anime anymore which is a shame. Back in the early 2000's Ocean Studios was much cheaper to hire. The Canadian dollar was weaker than the US dollar so outsourcing anime to dub in Canada was cheaper at the time. During the 2008 recession that's when we started to see a big shift in the anime dubbing industry. The US dollar was at one point on par with the Canadian dollar and over time it became too expensive to hire voice talent from Ocean Studios. So they then turned to local talent based in Texas, LA and New York to save money. After that they haven't looked back.
With the exception of Gretel being killed in front of Rock there is no more haunting scene than Yukio taking her own life to atone for the sin she should've had no part of to begin with. The added punch is Revy trying to protect Rock from the results of failing to save one piece of the world which gave him hope. At this point it guarantees that Rock is even more important than money to Revy.
"At this point it guarantees that Rock is even more important than money to Revy." We already know that Rock is more important than her own life to Revy. From the moment she pointed her guns at Balalaika. I beleive Balalaika had also noticed that change in Revy. Balalaika was very much surprised but this fact made Rock a very interesting subject to her.
The sound of yukio running the sword though her throat is terrifying to listen to. Yukio was clearly in love with ginji. She believe the only way she could be with him is to become of the living dead... but in a actuality if she asked he would put his sword down and run off with her. Ginji believed she was doing this out of duty to her clan and has a yakuza. But When ginji heard what rock made her say he blundered and that what gave revy her opening to shoot him.
@@MohamedAli-xu3uw it was edit out. When Rock said you should of asked ginji to though away his sword and run away together. She replies and saids Like wanderers that sound like a romantic comedy. Man this arc. Talk about having your characters parallel. Ginji was basically like Rock, being in the twilight but wanting to be in the light. Problem was the girl made the wrong decision in not realizing what she already had. It would be like if Rock took a step backwards cause of Revy's claims. Which Revy pushed his buttons but he stood his ground.
I hate to say this but this was a turning point for rock to go darkside. After this event to Roberta Blood Trail he still has this trauma about Yukio of what she said mostly about Rock "Saving" her which that's what I know and I believe he really wanted to do even trying to stand up in front of Balaika when almost being killed by her crazy ass. I know people in different website kinda over complicate things with Rock or him being the "Antagonist" but I don't think he is by any means. Sure some actions he makes can somewhat effect others but this scene here is what gives him doubts that no matter how hard he tries he just feels like he can't save anyone like he is just powerless. But if they continue the show I want Rock to be able to break that whole darkside effect unlike most others that embrace it and be the one who actually can help someone in the story without having it to be in either Balaika's hand or Chang's hand of how they want it to bring things their ways. For Rock this event is going to be a drive for him that he will never remove from his mind because Yukio was definetly without a doubt a key point in Rock's heart that he actually potentially would be inlove with despite how it went down in the end. This is what gives him the reason to somewhat go darkside I mean he could never stop thinking about her, nor the dreams that goes back to when Balaika put a gun on him plus the death of Yukio and some things that they both say to him. Is basically a Nightmare/Drive to get his hands a bit dirty. But that's just my point of view here.
He does in the wired red card arc in the manga but sadly the author is not really writing this series right now so I don’t know if the series continues much after this

It’s that damn ending music it hits you in the soul makes you feel like your in slow motion it’s like you got done with your favorite anime then a year later remember it and get that feeling in your gut damn
I doubt it. Yukio was likely going to wind up dead anyway, she was too stubborn and wouldn’t give up being a yakuza. Even being kidnapped, having her “family” destroyed around her, and her plans falling apart she still got a thrill out of committing crimes and wanted to go to Roanapur. Sooner or later she would have been meat for the grinder, just as Rock tried to warn her. Whether through chasing a high or sticking with the Yakuza till the end, she likely would have pissed someone like Balalaika off again and wound up dead.
Although in the anime the fight takes place in dockyard but in the manga the fight was taken over a shrine where both yukio and genji were wearing kimono
Thinking about Japan arc for days and my conclusion is that to save Yukio, Rock just had to stop Revy and Ginji fighting. But he didn't, it's like he suddenly gave up and "you're gone too far", but did she? He finally got Yukio's true motives, and could've persuaded her with them not for killing Ginji, but for stopping the fight, there was enough time considering how long they've talked. He stops Revy, Yukio stops Ginji. They run off somewhere, not in Roanapur of course since Balalaika is there, but somewhere in Japan. Maybe their yakuza connections will get back at them someday, but maybe not, it's their problem anyway. I mean she's just a schoolgirl, but also showed herself to be very stoic, smart and with good morals, Rock shouldn't be like "there's no hope for you stupid". But seems like he chose "darkness". Now I wonder if he became "the villain" before her suicide, not after. Even worse since he was very nonchalant after receiving her picture, but you can argue that it was coping\depression or he already lived through the most of emotions. Well, there's no drama then isn't it. Or you can just imagine that Rock got it all together too late and there was no stopping the fight, then it all works as usual. Seems like in manga version it works better, fight was already at end. P.S. In any case, this damn arc was really hard-hitting for me, even twins arc really hit me only near the very end (Rock talking with girl on the ship and the ending). Yet to watch RBT but I don't think it will be harder\generally hard, i'm not much into Roberta. Will see.
Ngl, I was worried for Rev’s safety here. Seeing how dark this show is, I thought this would be one of those dark fantasy animes that kill everyone off. If I could continue this show, I’d keep the darkness here, but make an ending where she and Rock make it out okay, and maybe start a family, or something. Or maybe they continue doing this, but they coke out with how they really feel about each other.
"Don't look at her, Rock! Look at me!" Damn, that hit harder than it ought to. There are few anime where I prefer the dub over subtitles. However, Black Lagoon and Hellsing/Hellsing Ultimate are definitely two of them.
I love this scene, I love this show, but how exactly was this fight not over in about 5 seconds (generously), your mans had a sword and Revy had not one but TWO guns
The only time I think revy got seriously injured in this anime. Interesting thing that I noticed, is that even though she's injured, she's trying to still protect rock from being mentally scarred from the girl commiting sepuku. NOTE: I said "I think" this is the only time she was seriously injured.
It's static black and white pictures so it's not that hard-hitting unlike it could've been if animated. And anime still fully shows her falling over Ginji's body with the sword sticking afterwards.
@@happilyevernever4289 Yep. There have been several signs warning of that possibility. Hopefully, Revy and Rock can save one another before that happens.
*I wonder 🤔 how old is Yukio? She looks like a high school student right? Meanwhile her classmate that started to cry when she saw Yukio leave with all those Yakuza, that classmate looks like an elementary student 😲 & how old is Ginji?? 30 - 35?*
@@GigaChadh976 weird part is a lot of people think all Japanese school girls are young, which is true but someone raised from 18 to 20, and the reason why they look younger, is because it's Japan, and in Japan a strict diet, and exercise, and he'll even freaking perfection in there is all that is needed in that country. Revys guns: Accuracy -99% , infinite bullets
It's Spike vs Vicious all over again.
This show was so damn good.
Was? It is ONE of the best anime/manga series ever made! Better than 80 percent of the stuff released in the past 20 years.

god the sound of her stabbing her own throat was so brutal and saddening..
like how revy and jambo are trying to kill each other while rock and the other chick were just chilling
The worst part is that this could have all been avoided if Rock stayed away from Yokio and only had his talk with Baliaika
English dub Revy is so good.
Never thought that I would hear Light Yagami say the word “fuck” lol

Bro that throat stab sounded like an apple core being split open.
That scream is an S+ tier
0:31 dang that kick must've hurt .....
this is best black lagoon scene easly
Although in the anime the fight takes place in dockyard but in the manga the fight was taken over a shrine where both yukio and genji were wearing kimono
This scene made me really sad... Anyone else feel the same way too? ;(
Thinking about Japan arc for days and my conclusion is that to save Yukio, Rock just had to stop Revy and Ginji fighting.
Will see.
Just imagine if the series was just about Yukio and Ginjo and then it ended here...
Let's appreciate the bird timing
I'd like to think that the favor he owed to revvy was hitting her in the knee instead of the heart on that last move.
In the subbed, he dies saying "I messed up". I wonder why they felt the need to change the dialogue
Look at me!"
Damn, that hit harder than it ought to. There are few anime where I prefer the dub over subtitles. However, Black Lagoon and Hellsing/Hellsing Ultimate are definitely two of them.
Twenty-one foot rule! Twenty-one foot rule! REVY! Why are you getting closer?!
0:35 All that for a drop of blood?
One of anime’s best romances
I love this scene, I love this show, but how exactly was this fight not over in about 5 seconds (generously), your mans had a sword and Revy had not one but TWO guns
Quentin tarantino rules
@@gkkk2735 so more “rule of cool” then straight logic?
@Thomas Raines pretty much, trust me once you see a teenage girl john wick shotgun 5 dudes with hidden guns you kinda stop questioning it lol
Good lord she lives for this shit! Damn!
that scream tho
Later in the series got so damn dark, between this and the kids Rock had to be hurting.
The beat in the background is epic I always wanted to know what was that the name of it the sound or the beat
The feels man...
Best part is right before this clip beings, they are the walking dead, killing each other.
This episode was so sad
he looks like toguro
I would pay cold hard cash to get a set of beretta’s like revy’s
They make replicas of these I think.
We dont get dubs like this anymore. So many english VA's these days are insufferable. Huffing their own farts.
Sometimes words are enough to kill and sometimes they have the opposite effect on what you want
The only time I think revy got seriously injured in this anime. Interesting thing that I noticed, is that even though she's injured, she's trying to still protect rock from being mentally scarred from the girl commiting sepuku. NOTE: I said "I think" this is the only time she was seriously injured.
Roberta blast her with rocket launcher once😂
NEVER pull out a knife or sword when youre stabbed. Wait till you get medical help
Yeah that’s the normal way to do it but they aren’t waiting around for paramedics, and Revy can’t move with that giant sword in her leg
Shame season 2 isn't on Hulu. 😕
He is rock and it'll be ok
when i see this fight i just think can revy not aim a gun? she has perfect accuracy in other episodes but in this one she misses at least 30 shots
Ich hab den anime grade fertig geguckt 10/10 😢
He must have let her reload a couple of times or something
In the manga, they show how she stabs herself compared to the anime.
I guess Rock's reaction is more important than a gore scene because this is where Rock gets his dark side.
It's static black and white pictures so it's not that hard-hitting unlike it could've been if animated. And anime still fully shows her falling over Ginji's body with the sword sticking afterwards.
They dont do dubbing like that anymore...
I think they still do but pretty rare these days.. They really should treat it like how VA does in video games.
Bro you've got guns why are you charging him
Anime logic.😂
Fr💀
Also how tf is she missing most of her bullets?💀
Revys VA has voiced in my little pony. Along with the VA for Roberta and the other maid character. Your welcome
That school girl was completely selfish the whole time, and *that* is why she died.
True
But it gives Rock's fate a terrible sense of foreboding, don't you think?
@@happilyevernever4289 Yep. There have been several signs warning of that possibility. Hopefully, Revy and Rock can save one another before that happens.
the pistols ability to block the sword is inconsistent.
So is slicing bullets, with unpredictable trajectory, in half.
Are we ever getting another season ?

19*. And Ginji is Mid 30’s
If you are not perfect, you do not belong in Japan, and you dishonor your family.
@@demochris1786 looking like a child isn't perfection dude.
Why is light Yagami in this anime
Same dubbing company.
Oh
I was so disappointed by this. Before the fight, Genji told Yukio that he was going to challenge Balalaika himself. We could have gotten a chance to see Balalaika in action, but instead we get this.
All I got to say is that they need to ship revy and rock I can see them as a good couple
18. God damn. What a waste.
I will never understand people committing suicide. But if squeezing that trigger or whatever is worth it, then I'm sure as hell not gonna stop you.
Bruh
I hate it when anime girls die. It’s just too horrible to me even though they are fictional.
Lol, like screamers? Try some classic b/w horror films.
why must all great anime fighs have to have some annoying side character talking the whole time seriously put a sock in it rock nobody cares
