Hi! 35 year old very active lady prior to the injury! I remember vividly pulling my adductor muscle as I was twisting it to the side one day- felt very tender going from the inner knee to hip - was told to rest and ended up months later having glute pain and then pain down the back of my hamstrings calves and then to feet. Diagnosed with piriformis syndrome causing the sciatica symptoms. Ended up not being able to walk and not sit upright for weeks- the entire leg atrophied bc I was told rest by ortho and doctors. (All imaging showed No signs of damage) this happened for months where everything was tight. Finally stopped stretching and started strengthening at every length from the knowledge of your channel! Started strengthening the entire leg and realized how atrophied everything was bc I had knee pain climbing stairs. Later diagnosed with knee arthritis and offered injections which I firmly declined! Thank you for the knowledge you put out on this channel to help with muscle imbalances and ways to get out of RIPS! My limp finally went away when I focused on muscle imbalances and strengthening at every length!
At least 3 times a week on occasion pain travels to opposite knee. Almost always burning pain travels had down the down leg after I've been asleep a 1-2 hours. 70 yrs old When I'm doing wall stretch one side will pop as lowering down 😳
I feel knee pain while i move upstairs or come down. But due to sciatica i have back pain and some times due to work load i feel pain in my right thigh and right leg
During the day all good. At night when resting the knee gets cold and painful. Also feeling this when resting during the day especially when a fan is even slightly blowing on it. My muscles are strong and I play sports where I have no problems with knees at all. Taking some acugesic 50mg every evening to survive the night. Accidentally found out that helps. (But now starting to help less). Too tired at night to get up which will reduce the pain after some walking. But as soon as lying down again pain comes back. Any suggestions? “Experts” can’t seem to find anything wrong with my legs.
I am a 65-year-old lady who is very active, and about four or five months ago my knee started acting up so bad, I thought I'd have to go and look at a surgeon for a knee replacement. I did these exercises that you recommended and could not believe the immediate results! It was totally amazing how fast these exercises worked.
I am 80, I cycle around 100 miles a week and work out for around 2hrs every second day. About 3 months ago I started getting pain on the inside of my right knee while cycling. Then I started having it while walking, now I have it every night. It wakes me up and I am not ablevto find a comfortable position in the bed. So, I'm very open to whatever help you can offer. Thank you, Rory

The seated straight leg lift grabbed my calf! Will try walking backwards. Thank you for all the valuable information and useful exercises you provide. ❤️
I will try your exercises.Iamalmost 70 years old and I do lbody pump and body combat 5 times a weak.but, I can't sleep at night for the pain in my inside right knee .I have osteopenia, mild pairs defect and mild spodylosis

This is exactly what I'm experiencing, and exactly what my doctor told me was the cause! After a bad kidney stone attack, I got into the habit of not exercising or moving around enough. Mine all started when i put one foot out of bed, twisted on it as I stood up, something felt like it had snapped. Doc said cam impingement due to mri. But, I know it happened by my bed,at a v specific time. Still v tender in groin/ hip tendon attach area. Pain referred to knee. Grrrrr.
As someone who broke his knee many years ago let me suggest another cause of knee pain at night. Definitely do the exercises to improve knee health but there are a couple mechanical causes that can also cause pain in inflamed knees. It can be as simple as a little pressure on the foot, which causes pressure against the inside of the knee joint against tender tissues. Over time the irritation builds to actual pain, and since you lay there for 8 hours or so it has plenty of time to reach that point. For me if I lay on my back for example, my toes may not be pointed straight up at the ceiling. Feet angle slightly out when totally relaxed. Now if there is a comforter or other bedding hanging off the end of the bed pulling gently down on the highest point, my toes, that can be enough to create some rotational force against my knee. Because the foot is not pointing straight up it’s pulled down and to the side rotating the lower leg further. This gentle pressure twisting the knee can cause real discomfort over time. And once the knee is inflamed it just gets more sensitive to it. Simply adjusting the bedding so the weight is not pulling at the foot can be the difference between a comfortable night or tossing and turning and waking up with a swollen knee. In other instances just putting a small pillow under the knee for support can be what’s needed. Do the exercises for strong happy knees, but don’t discount simpler causes of discomfort too.
Thank I can move my leg but I fell making my left go in hearing a pop I think I sprainedy knee and trying to find the right angle to make my knee rest.
You do the doctor imitation really well! Lol. If I'd listened only to doctors, I wouldn't be walking a few miles a day and doing asian squats today. Once in a while, I need an Alleve when I have a joint flare-up, but I'm SO much stronger for exercising and working on my lower body strength and flexibility. I'm 61 and if I can do it, anyone can!
I'm a 79 year old man with arthritis. Over the last five days my right knee has started hurting in bed. By morning I can't walk. My calf is swollen, and I can't put any weight on my heel. In several hours of hobbling around all this goes away (about 90%) only to come back the next morning. I do excercise, like working on my old house, pulling up a bedroom floor to level it, and rebuilding the room.
I have bad arthritis in my left knee and had an arthroscopy a couple of months ago with littlet to no improvement. The majority of pain is the back of my knee causing stiffness and poor flexibility and limited ROM. I do have pain with walking and stairs also. But at night I wake up with it hurting really bad. I just figured it was where it is staying bent for a long period of time. I know I'm headed for a knee replacement but would love to reduce my symptoms so I can put that off as long as possible.
I am truly grateful for your videos. Your explanations are so necessary. From tonight on, I follow your exercises & post the result. Thank you in advance! From Geneva, Switzerland
I really, really need to get back to doing exercises for my knees (and everything else). A few months of poor mental health and little movement means I'm getting more knee pain and a lot of back ache. Knee pain at night has been particularly bad this week so this is a timely video!
Your videos helped me a great deal with FAI of my right hip. Now I'm watching this to understand how to mend my left knee. It helps when one has a better understand of how things really work in the body.
Love your vids...brain damage had me unbalanced for two yrs, steroids lost me most of leg and butt muscle, and I'm 59 and was unable to even cross my right leg (lots of stiffness around hip)...this also translated to pain in right hip and right knee...watched and used a lot of your vids and is getting better....I do stretches then exercise muscle then massage sore bits...keep up the great work, your helping a lot of people and making a difference in the world.
I danced at a wedding in the summer and pulled a knee muscle so badly I couldn’t walk! An X-ray showed no real damage and so I spent a week stretching it out. My knee hasn’t been the same since. Since I am turning 50 everyone says it’s arthritis but I don’t believe that. I think it’s directly related to the fact that I stopped working out months before and I was stiff and Not stretched. I am so so happy I found your site and I will try these excersizes everyday to see if this changes anything!! Thank you!!
I’m in my 70’s. every now and again my left knee makes rolling over to get out of bed really painful. But once up and about I have no problem until the next time which maybe months later. So glad you can shed a light on this problem.
Hi I have the dreaded arthritis in my knees and hips but worse on the right sleeping is awful. My doctor and physiotherapist both told me to build up the muscles to help support them. Knee exercises made the knee pain excruciating, had to stop them and was given excericises for my hip but the pain was too much I couldn't physically do them. I do walk regularly so I do exercise. Pain management is hard. I am loving your video's
Hello Sir, I am 40 year old and very much pleased to thank first the person who asked this question. Secondly I just got to understand the muscle and bone rational contract and support for each other from this video. Really explanatory and helps us to maintain the muscle strength to support bone especially while we sleep. Thanks for your informative video and guidance for helathy life.
I'm grateful to the person who asked this question! I've been doing your exercises for about a year and my knees started hurting at night. I'm 58 and active. Not sure how much has to do with losing estrogen or hormones. What do you think about joints/ muscles in regards to menopause.
I would suggest stretching and massage if you haven't already been doing that! I don't really know much about menopause - just that I'm glad I won't be going through it! 😅
Curious if you've found any further helpful info on this @wr9418? My issue, age & question exactly. Post-meno/menopausal~ however we call it these days =) I'm also active, strength train a few days a week, & eat a meat based diet, heavy in collagen & so forth~ which I know helps, yet still continue to have the knee pain at night. I will be focusing specifically on the quad/hamstring exercises, but am also wondering where you are at personally with this, nine months later. Thanks, in advance~ Samantha in NV
@@RV-there-Yet Hi there! I don't really have any answers. We sound very similar. Very health conscious and doing everything right. I know that the pain is worse when I'm stressed which is very regularly, lol. Some information helped, TMS, mind body approach. Work by Dr. John Sarno, Videos by Pain Free You. All the pain started around menopause and yes losing estrogen has an effect on joints. But if you choose not to use hormone therapy then I feel like working with the mind is the next approach. I hope some of this helped.
@@wr9418 That sounds reasonable, & something I've not thought of, so thank you. I also chose not to do any HRT, & I'm still firm in feeling like the trade off is not right for me. Hoping I don't live to regret that decision. For now, I've started training myself to sleep on my back, with legs elevated in an "L" shape~ as if sitting in a chair, so to speak. This has given noticeable relief at night, with far fewer wake ups due to discomfort & the need to move. Another experiment is mouth taping, as I've been researching the benefits, including better oxygen absorption by breathing through the nose. This can be of help for some dealing with joint pain. Always willing to experiment =) Thanks again for your input. -Samantha
Thank you so much for all of the information. Right now, my both knees hurt so much this evening and I can't sleep and I don't know how to overcome it that's why I go to TH-cam and search for it and I see your vlog and it helps me to overcome it. Thank you!
I get pain in my left knee at night. I sleep on that side of the bed, so I usually hang my left leg off of the bed and put my foot flat on the floor with my knee at a 90 degree angle. I take 800 mg of magnesium before bed, which prevents my feet and calf cramps. I used these exercises today, and I totally feel new muscle areas in my hips and hamstrings working. I notice when I do the leg lifts that if I turn my foot toward my other leg I work more of the front of the thigh.
Excellent information! Thank you so much! I completely agree that our body gives us all kinds of signals where it needs attention. We can heal pretty much everything except big injuries. Small injuries heal on their own. Incorporating an exercise routine where you are bending in all possible directions, stretching and exercising all muscles can save us from many so called "age" related" problems.
Thanks for addressing knee pain! For the past few months it has been plaguing me at night..I walk 2 to 4 miles per day and work out at the gym (59 you)
totally mimicked my dr lol...when i told him running for a 10k decreased my knee pain he said 'that doesn't make sense' ...def going to try that wall ex. ive not seen that before. tfs:)
Every once in awhile I get knee pain at night I think because I'm laying my leg in a direction that bothers the tissues in that joint. But when I seem to stretch the leg out gradually the pain goes away. So my guess is the pain is there because of weak either quad or hamstring muscles, or both!
Really interesting video. Left hip arthritis started moderately a few years ago but worsened after moving to a new house with hard floors about 3 yrs ago, noticing a lot more leg stiffness, (correlation? not sure). Anyway last Aug when walking dog, she pulled me down on both knees on concrete but only left was really affected resulting in hairline knee fx. Dr confirmed by xr a few mos ago that it has healed, but I now have arthritis in that knee. I have really noticed that knee aching at night a lot sometimes going down to my shin and/or ankle. Will try that first exercise and the walking backwards exercise. I tried that leg extension once a few months ago (no weight) and my knee did not like that at all. Also I have seen advice from different PT's to not bulk up your quads as this can put pressure on your knees and best to mostly focus more on strengthening your glutes than quads. Same advice given for hip arthritis. On the other hand, I am sure my left leg has weakened a lot since my fall. Would love your comments on this. Really appreciate your videos and the ATM advice.
Wow! My husband just found you and I am excited to help my muscles stay alive. My left knee complains only at night or when it gets cold out so looking forward to helping with exercising instead of meds. Appreciate the share
Dude.. Nice video. Thanx. I'm 43..knee kills me at night or day. As long as I want to go to bed or relax. It just pains. 😢. Doc said restless legs.. Tabs don't really help. Just keep kicking and trying to break that knee and ankle joints every minute. .. Similar to how u break your knuckles..
I have the same problem the women mentioned in this video. One year ago I fell on my knees. I really had pain. After a while the strong pain vanished. But now and then it is back, not so very strong, and especially at night. My doctor told me not to stop sports. I think I will try your exercises. Besides: Your sceleton and you are a great couple. ❤
I'm 38 and I have those knee pains every now and then for 15 years now. I will definitely try your exercise and come back to you! I have hyper mobility so I'll try to not to go too far with turns.
Your imitation of Dr.s mumbling ... spot on and hilarious. Thanks, I needed a good laugh. Also, the atrophied quads in older adults ... I have that. I've been trying to build them back up. It's slow going. But now that I know it's a real thing, I'll keeping working at it. Thank you!
I have a physiotherapist who, when I described this about another joint, said it was a sort of arthritis from lack of use...gave me some excercises...and it went away. so...clearly not arthritis I guess...but he knew what to do to fix it.
@@Uprighthealth thanks but I'm not a side sleeper, back sleeper. I found if I dead hang the pain doesn't happen. I figure that the stretch is what I need after a day of heavy gardening...chainsaw
I got genicular arterial embolization in 2021 and could sleep until a few days ago. Knee pain has returned and now is keeping me up but the humidity is extremely high right now.
I'm a 19 year old male . I injured my leg while playing in such a way that my left leg was stuck on the ground and my body fell over. There was a terrible pain at the day of the injury right from the place where leg is attached to the lower body to the lower parts of the knee and sometimes even further. I tried some home remedies and they did give some relief but then the cycle of pain started. Now every night just as I go to bed the pain starts at different spots like the centre of thigh , left side of thigh , the knee . And it usually is the same kind of pain that happened on the first day of injury. After 15 days of this pain , i finally visited the doctor and x ray was taken from little above the knee to the foot . And surprisingly everything is fine according to the doctor. He suggested some calcium medicines and adviced me for some physical activities but I don't think I'm quite satisfied by this because it's not the first time I've twisted my leg or ancle and I'm aware of the period of convalescence it takes but this time it's already a long time(17 days) and the cycle is as painful as ever. Please tell what do you think 🙏 Thank you
I feel burning in my feet and knees at night too. My ortho doctor suggested me to avoid stairs and bending or sit on the floor on feet. He diagnosed sciatica with weak knees, can i do this exercise? Will it remove the pain and burning? My doctor advised me walk of 1 hour at least.
Knee pain just woke me up! Never had injuries to thr knees...mostly the left knee but the right hurts a little and also some pain on left side lower back....I don't understand what's happening! I'm 43 male...about 40 lbs overweight. Now I do have gout and just got over a gout attack. But it only hurt in the feet & ankles..I have taken some medication for the gout
My knee pain was diagnosed as ruptured Baker's Cyst. Never any swelling until suddenly incapacitated. I had a rib injury which caused me to rest in bed upright with kness sprawled out. Went to sleep, super-relaxed, woke up with very sore, still and swollen knee. 2 months later after rest, ice and elevation and only marginal improvement. Then I did the same thing again, went to sleep on back with legs sprawled out. This time consequnces much worse. I'm treating myself on the basis on Knee Hyperextension. ..happy days, not.
Similar injury: Watching this to see if any further information can be gleaned. I was rollerblading and got hit by a cyclist who was riding on the wrong side of the road. I went over her handlebars and landed on the inside of my left knee. Due Adrenalin etc I thought nothing of it and went off on a 2 hour street skate in my cute soon-to-be 68 year old way. I thought at first that I had bruised my Pes Anserine because that seemed to be the point of impact, but it kept hurting at night way longer than it ought. Then I thought it might be my knee capsule in an Oh-well-shoulda-worn-those-knee-pads-like-the-kids-keep-telling-me, accept it, move on, it'll heal eventually kinda way. But it kept on hurting and seemed to be getting worse. Then I thought I might have damaged my MCL and started doing exercises for that to no avail. Next I thought it might be a case of tibial rotation since the exercise for that seemed to bring some temporary relief. And it still 'effin hurts at night. I finally figured the pain is almost exactly the same as that time I had Sciatica back when I used to drive a lot, only on the inside of the knee. So perhaps a trapped nerve. Lately, I've been hopping out of bed when it tweaks too bad to sleep at night and doing that Saphenous nerve stretch thing where you rotate the injured leg outwards, jam your foot at 90 degrees in the join between the wall and the floor, step right out with the other leg and do a deep knee bend umpty several times. And "that" really seems to help me. so I hope it helps your subscriber.
I slid down an embankment and went knee over toe pretty hard. Right above the kneecap, I felt a strong burning sensation, and at 1st, it was hard to lift up leg. Hard to sit down without pain and every night it wakes me up burning and aching. I tried massages and vibration tool. It seemed to help a bit, but now it's just constant pain when I bend.
Yes, I have that burning at night. It’s random, though. Sometimes it persists several nights in a row, then not again for a while. I’ve been hitting the weights at the gym pretty regularly x past 7 mo. , also doing fast walk on the treadmill x 2-3 miles per day. I’m 70. I like your info.
I love your logic!! I will definitely try these exercises tomorrow morning! Thank you so much!! 👏🏻 Do you have a video about a crunching noise in my knees when I walk uphill? 🤔
Hmm. Wife 53, doesn't have a meniscus on her left knee as it was removed and diagnosed with osteoarthritis. She has medium pain during the day and extreme pain at night. Wondering if this will alleviate some pain as doctors are recommending full knee replacement.
I am a 65 year old male having lots of pain on my knee whenever my foot is sitting flat like on the couch especially at night when it’s straight out I have been diagnosed with knee arthritis what can be done to alleviate my pain
I have agonizing burning pain in both knees, mostly at night. I also have damaged to my lumbar spine, which also has agonizing chronic pain. What's up with that?
The fold is bad, at least in my case, because of a herniated L5 / S1 disk, that blows out toward the back. Bending over that way (flexion) sort of pushes the herniated disk (disc?) into the nerve. Though that wall exercise, with moderation, can be a great idea and is not too bad (for me).
I am nearly 70 and officially have mild OA. No matter what i do, my knees hurt at night, often making me shift them constantly. I find they are worse after exercise like walking and have even had to cut down on my recommended swimming and pool knee exercises, because trying to keep them strong is making them too painful. It hurts at the inner and lower parts of the knees, feels like a bone is pushing against the inner knee. When i get up and do a few steps i dont have pain doing a short walk, so it is very confusing. Thanks!
I'm 33 and since I was 18 every time winter starts my knees wakes me up me up at night especially when I stretch out the legs I even yell my wife says ?!!! How can I make this go away
My knees make a "pop" sound when I move or bend. But they kill me at night. Doctor said the "A" word. I want to say, "Nay-Nay." Thank you for the video.
QUESTION,,,,IM 62 and 4 days ago while trying to go sleep I got a deep down constant ache in BOTH knees,,( I can’t see overnight arthritis in BOTH knees) I’ve tried 😂Bio- Freeze and ton of Motrin What can I do
This is me Matt , dr. Told me to rest and relax, and prescribe anti inflammatory, i have been resting for4 months my weight is rocketing high of resting and eating healthy food still I have pain in my knee in the middle of the night and my right sciatica all leg gouty arthritis’s
I’m 19 and have a pain starting from the back of my knee and travelling to my upper and lower back leg and it happens 24/7 but is even more painful at night. Pls help me
💡Super grateful for some practical application for this aggravating issue~ THANK YOU! I will surely be incorporating these exercises, & any others I can glean from your add'l posts on the matter. I do strength train a few times a week, as well as walking about 2-3 miles a day, 3-4 times a week. At 58 yrs old, I was beginning to think it's simply how it's going to be, this knee pain~ like the need for reading glasses. Except now it's to the point where it's affecting my sleep profoundly so I'm doing the research for sure. I appreciate your time & effort in addressing this, thanks again ~ Samantha in NV
I walk a few miles to visit my 90 year old mother daily, and my one knee started hurting when I sit, and try to stand. Or at night. The one that doesn’t hurt seems more swollen usually then the one that actually hurts!
Hi I’m a 16 year old with knee pain doctors say that I sprained my knee but it been happening since I was younger they did this procedure on my knee where they drawed blood spin the plasma and put it into my knee but it still hurts even after the procedure can you help me understand what’s going on?
What's going on with YOUR knee pain at night? How often is it happening? Drop me a comment!👇

You need to do different type of exercise
@@54tristin What type? Cuz I am 34 and getting the same problem
@@Lance-wn9dc i am 13 and it always hurt started one month ego. :(
If it makes you feel any better, I'm 29, in decent shape, and still have this pain every morning. It suddenly just started last year.
@@MemeDog_1 you most probably are just growing. Or stress knees to much running whatever.
Have you ever tried Boron?
Thanks!
Much gratitude for your support!
Watching to learn. No knee issues. Thank you Matt
I am truly grateful for your videos. Your explanations are so necessary. From tonight on, I follow your exercises & post the result. Thank you in advance! From Geneva, Switzerland
Thanks!
Huge thanks, Sally!
Thank you!!
Loss of exercise is a major component.
But maybe you should have an MRI to examine the soft tissues rather than the honey tissue first .
I’m in my 70’s. every now and again my left knee makes rolling over to get out of bed really painful. But once up and about I have no problem until the next time which maybe months later. So glad you can shed a light on this problem.
I stretch my legs straight up in the air while laying in bed at night. This helps alot with the knee pain. Great video!❤
I actually had those pains months ago, but they stopped once I started doing some excercise you recommended. Thank you so much!
Glad I could help!
-Samantha
OMG you are a life saver! I am a runner and heard the same stuff from DR's! This makes soooooooooooo much sense!
Thank you thank you, you're amazing!
Always great content along with nice touch of humor. And sorry to hear your parents have some cognitive challenges. Blessings to you 🙏
I like your teaching style. I have the same issue. Just 1 week out from a total knee so this is good
Thanks for addressing knee pain!
Can you go over pain in hands and knuckles 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
ROFL - love the imitations. And it's a relief to know we can heal these types of injuries by addressing the root problem 👍
Great strech exercise, from the first couple of seconds doing the stretch I fekt the pain on my knee disappeared. It's like magic
The information is great and i wonder can you provide us with a shorter version so i can save it as a reference in my library🙏🏻💕
Thank you
I'm 38 and I have those knee pains every now and then for 15 years now.
Thank you!
After a year of Plantar fasciitis I think I have involuntarily changed my gait, and hence the inner knee pain. Hoping strength training will help.
I have a physiotherapist who, when I described this about another joint, said it was a sort of arthritis from lack of use...gave me some excercises...and it went away. so...clearly not arthritis I guess...but he knew what to do to fix it.
Please do one for exercise for shoulder pain at night. It wakes me up during the night. When daytime I don't have the pain. What exercise can help?

Hi,I have pain inside my left knee and all along going down to my feet especially at night time why is that happen dear?plz help
Please tell what do you think 🙏
Thank you
I feel burning in my feet and knees at night too. My ortho doctor suggested me to avoid stairs and bending or sit on the floor on feet. He diagnosed sciatica with weak knees, can i do this exercise? Will it remove the pain and burning? My doctor advised me walk of 1 hour at least.
Some nights i feel my knee and feet burning thats y couldnt sleep properly
Ever since I’ve gotten my adjustable bed and having my top lifted at night I’ve had brand new knee pain. (26M)
I’ll try these exercises
I’m in extreme pain at night. 64yrs. old. Should I start walking too??
Had knee replacement on 30th August and it's very awful trying to sleep at night
3:40 ATM means something totally different in my circles

I have knee pain when sleeping but mostly in winter
Great video!
You crack me up, Matt 😂 Thank you for all your great content. I really enjoy exercising along with you 😊
Glad you enjoy it!
Thanks!

This has just started happening to me. It's incredibly painful!
