This review 'feels' very qualified - articulate to such an extent that I feel like I have almost heard the headphones. In a nutshell a "major no go" as some may say. Crinacle gives these a D for technical performance and I asked the same question. Why such a difference of opinion between reviewers.
      1) QC issues
      2) The sound flaws are more technical ones that do not affect their use for enjoyment of music (though may affect their suitability for professional use)
      3) The sound flaws affect certain genres more than others so those unmoved by the genres affected will not report the flaws
      4) Some positive reviews have a commercial / attention seeking incentive.
      5) Some negative reviews have a commercial / attention seeking incentive.
      (any other reasons?)
Be interesting to hear why others think there is such a disparity..and which reviewers they trust.

@@GIChow yes I am now very nervous, I have now read another review which says they are good but as “boring” I think the release of the app with apparently an eq will be interesting, saying that I could always use my hiby to pre eq and then Bluetooth transmit in LDAC to them I suppose

@@adrianmorrish8494 If I understand Crinacle's analysis correctly he gives audio devices a tonal score (B- in the case of the Panda) which is to do with frequency response and hence within the realm of what an equaliser can potentially remedy and a technical score (D-) which is ultimately to do with various immutable driver characteristics impacting things like transient response, which translates into 'speed', bass impact, resolution, etc. These technical limitations could probably not be addressed by an equaliser however yes be interesting to see what effect that has. It is curious though that even out of the box there is no consensus between reviewers on whether they sound poor, good or very good e.g. another I saw described them as better than the Sony XM4 which while no audiophile reference would probably score higher than the Panda seems to have done with the Headphone Show and Crinacle!

Yeah..my man, I have to say that absolutely no other site I have seen has expressed the type of opinion on the Pandas you expressed. I get sound is subjective, but in your case, I would have to say sound is unique. Nobody agrees with you. It's almost like you are reviewing a version that doesn't exist. You seem to know what you are doing but others on youtube that are audiophile reviewers have all said that these are the best Bluetooth headset you can buy and absolutely loves them and their sound quality especially in the details. It's really weird how isolated your opinion is vs other high ranked channels.

I have been using my Modius for over 2 weeks now and I really like them, LDAC and AAC wireless is good and hi-res from my Mac book Pro via USB sounds very good. Not having heard the Pandas I can't compare but some of the reviewers I have had conversations with say the Audeze are the best LDAC headphones for sound available (not the best sounding headphones overall of course). I'm using my Modius for several hrs a day from Zoom calls where they are excellent through to movies and music video through to just listening to music, I don't really game at the moment. For the price and getting all those camabilites they are actually a reasonable price although of course for many still a serious outlay esp at the moment.

I remember early on in their development I asked Drop for a sample of these so that I could give them feedback on the tuning, but they didn't seem interested. It would appear that they obviously just wanted them in the hands of their affiliates first and foremost, sound quality be damned.

You really should try them with Oratory1990's eq parameters. I agree with a lot of your sentiments, but at least to my ears the eq really seems to fix it. It would appear then that the lack of micro-dynamics is largely a tuning problem as opposed to some inherent technical flaw.

  • @Sasha_May
    @Sasha_May 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

For some strange reason not a lot of producers (and reviewers) understand a simple fact that you rarely put these headphones on the table but very often you rest them on your collar bones when taking them off. Therefore, the optimal swivel direction of the cups should be inwards (to yourself), not outwards. It's very strange how few reviewers know about this essential habit as if they never wear such headphones in real life. Otherwise it's painful for your collar bones if you take them off and rest them on your neck. There is no table on the go to put them on when you're walking. And I doubt all the tables are sanitized enough to contact the earpads which then touch your ears.

For example, listen from 1:23 to 1:43 and you'll hear multiple breathing sounds. For me it's one of those things where once you notice it you can't stop hearing it every time and get distracted by it. Wow, sounds like I'm listening to a different headphone. I got the Pandas mainly for at home wired use - I'm a closed back fan (seriously I need the isolation, can't really use/enjoy open backs when there's too much other noise coming in/out) and so far the B&W P7s and Sennheiser Momentum 2s are the best all-rounders I've found. Momentum 3 were okay after trialing instore, but something strange going on with wired use where they start to distort at relatively moderate volumes, making them a wireless-only headphone.
For the Pandas I've found their wireless use with LDAC is remarkably similar to wired quality, and sound more detailed to me than various other wireless headphones I've trialled at exhibitions or in store (Momentum 3, Shure Aonic 50, B&W PX7).
With wired use (MojoPoly, Plenue S or Fiio M11 Pro) I'm hearing plenty of detail. Soundstage is good and they have good extension to bass and treble. Only thing holding me back so far is some of treble is a bit artificial/digital sounding and prone to sibilance, and there does seem to be a bit of a gap in the bass with sub-bass lows produced well but some impact missing between down low and higher mid-bass -like a low-ish bass gap. All in all not too bad, and my feelings are similar to other posters here that they perform well as a consumer-focused headphone. For me, not sure they're a keeper yet, hoping some of the treble might calm down with more burn in, otherwise, the search for a better all-round keeper will continue.
Anyway, I enjoy your vids and thanks for the honest take.

Is there a song or playlist you recommend to compare detail with? My amateur ears didn't notice a big drop in detail between Sundara my and Panda headphones.

Good review. I’ve had all three of these. I made the mistake of getting rid of my Mobius before receiving the Airpods Max and Pandas. Now I have the Pandas and APM. I was disappointed in the Panda because they sound bloated and congested to me. I thought something was wrong with my perception. The eq app is supposedly coming soon. I’m not sure if the problems could be fixed with eq. The APM are ok, but the Apple eco features are hard to go without. In the end I realize I like the Mobius sound the best but HATE the form factor and lack of portability. I wish Audeze took them and made something with the build and form of the Panda, focused less on gaming and more on portability. They would have a home run hit IMO. At this point I will probably keep APM mainly for the additional features, but still really undecided.

Over-ears seem to mostly all have issues in sound and are not worth the price. You could get blessing 2 dusks for less then these and throw wireless adapters on em. Audeze Mobius unfortunately suffers from poor build quality on the thin part of its yokes, leaving them vulnerable to cracking and eventually breaking. • @TheHEADPHONEShow
      @TheHEADPHONEShow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Both. It's slightly different in wired mode yeah (slightly better treble extension). But the lack of detail is an over-dampening of the planar transducer. It's not uncommon for this kind of thing to happen with closed-back planars. It's somewhat of a requirement because you have to get the tuning right, but in this case it goes far enough to impact the sense of detail.

I must be deaf as hell or have a totally different tuned set of Pandas. I swear the Panda's sound slightly better than my airpods Max. I can hear details just fine (just as much details too). Mind you, I only listen for enjoyment and relaxation, not analytical listening. I must have those average consumer level ears that can't tell a difference between something very much more detailed and the Pandas. Again, I primary listen for enjoyment and not analytic listening (as if these are for studio use). I think your weakness lies in valuing detail retrieval too much over other factors. Yes detail retrieval matters but not to the level you believe it does to most people. There is a such thing as sufficient detail (not wanting for more) as long as other factors are present (bass slam, etc).
Lastly I believe the better sound for many (not most) is a mix of the current and previous harmon curves. I slightly more elevated bass shelf with a not so much elevated high end. Lastly, you only gave us 1 wireless headphone around the price that you feel sounds better. What about the rest? You made it seem like it was at least 3 or 4 wireless headphones that sound better for the price.
Here's my resume and ranking for the ones I own (I have more and tried more but these off the top of my head):
He4xx (my favorite with Oluv's eq settings and magni 3 amp and lg v60 quad dac)
Focal Elex (2nd favorite, too dynamic at times which leads to fatigue)
Drop Panda (3rd favorite but sometimes prefer a little more sub bass)
airpods max (close 4th favorite, needs a little more mid bass to balance out the sound)
Drop th00x ebony (5th favorite, ever so slight sibilance on some tracks and mid bass bleeds a touch in the mids)
Note: On some songs and some moods (I be in) the ebony can possibly move up to the top of the list.
And many other reviewers prefer the Panda's sound over the Airpod Max sound.
And I believe the mix of the most current harmon curve with the previous curve is ACTUALLY THE BEST.
In other words, a higher bass shelf than the curve you displayed and
Here is the rest of my ranking:
58x jubilee (needs slight increase in sub bass)
akg k371 (with some eq changes, add a little more sub and mid bass)
    phillips fidelio x2
sennheisher momentum 3 wireless (bass -4 to -6dB and treble -1 to -2dB)
    sony hear.on 2
bose qc35 ii (can sound slightly harsh in the upper midrange on some tracks)
jbl live 300 tws (slight eq changes = best sounding tws earbuds I heard)
jabra elite 85t (slight eq changes with newest firmware which drastically improves the sound)
sennheiser true wireless 1 and 2
airpods pro (needs more sub and mid bass)
    jabra elite 75t
sony xm4/sm3 (too much mid/high bass for both and xm3 is too dark)

I don’t mind them still since they’re still better than any bt headphones, but they could’ve been much better. The bass is passable for me, but borderline because the bass and lower mids are muddy like mentioned in the video. After hearing my 560s and sundaras… I’m just disappointed.
