Uruguay.
I have loaned Tomasito's books from library and his teachingmedhod, step by step is very effective and it has helped me a lot. So, anyone who wants to learn some basic things how to play conga, should buy his books :) I highly recommend.
This clip isn't from the DVD's that come with the Mel Bay instructional books called the Tomas Cruz Conga Method. There are three books that each come with the dvd. The book has written notations showing how to play each beat, but the book says that watching the dvds and getting a feel for the beats and their sounds is much more important that learning the beats based on the notations in the book. So, they basically say to watch the dvds that come with the books.
Danmusic22, I can tell you that Tomas Cruz is an accepted master of Timba, being one of the creators of the genre. If anyone can define what a Timba rhythm is, he would be one! The musical notation in his books is outstanding and there is enough info in them to last years of practice. I say get them all. I have been working with book number one for 6 months and it is excellent.
Saludos.
i got his three books and it was very hepfull to me. every book has a DVD that shows you the diferent tecniques and pathern in regular tempo and slow tempo. some pathern might be a little bit complicated but you can also use ''the sustitution movements tecnique'' by changuito and make it easier and confortable for you.it is good choise
This is not from the Books and DVD. In the book he uses musical notation and on the DVD he builds up the exercises and rhythms slowly stroke by stroke. Just get it with no hesitation, you will not be disappointed
i mean, what he is playing is fine, great conguero. but it is just the basic and can be used for almost all styles in son , salsa etc. if u wanna check out the real deep timba-grooves i would recomment to see some charange habanera clips. there is a nice one here also from armadito y su mecanica in a pretty good quality.good luck
if you guys make a research about it , you'll realize that timba it's not a simple pathern, has a lot of patherns itself and variations and you can use diferent ones in each song .... in my opinion timba is the higher level of what people call salsa or whatever !!!!
Vaya tremendo english. Oye esta empingao. Olvidate de los envidiosos que te critican. Un abrazo. Yoel Del Sol. Te vas a reir cantidad

el mejor! Un abrazo mi hermano.
tremendo conguero y maestro! gracias compay.
It's about the feel and syncopation that differentiates it from son along with the rest of the rythm section.
excellent, Tomasito
Que bueno eres Papo, saludos desde Peru

Hi Thomas, I've got your excellent books on playing tumbadoras! I' d like to know how you tune the four congas togheter. Thanks for your help :)
💯Masterful!!! 🥋

hmmmm....its just son....or can be used for latin jazz..isn't it? don't see the timba patterns...sorry
Like a classic salsa pattern! Easy
Exclenete afinación……..!!!
tomasito cruz jaja
