„I started playing this game casually. In the beginning I built every great building I could. Then I stumbled upon the heavy questing guide. I learned one thing from it: the importance of "NOT" building every great building. I was in progressive era 9 months ago when I decided to prioritize my great buildings. I deleted the bad ones and even deleted the Royal Albert Hall. I decided it would be better to use the space for goods buildings and just rely on the Lighthouse of Alexandria for the supply bonus. I was successfully completing Guild Expedition every week. And I managed to get a few of those terrace farms. After staying in progressive era for a while I worked on getting Lighthouse of Alexandria, Saint Marks Cathedral, Alcatraz, Temple of Relics, Statue of Zeus, Innovation Tower, Cathedral of Aachen, Castel del Monte, and Observatory to levels 5 or 6, attack buildings to 10. Those were my only GBs. Then I was forced to move up to modern era because an event required me to research a tech. All of a sudden I found out, I needed unrefined goods to produce current age goods. With limited space and population I decided to use my terrace farms for goods instead of forge points. I upgraded my terrace farms to modern era. Along with other goods buildings I traded goods up and down to move further in the tech tree. By this time I was part of a good forge point swapping team. and most of my forge points rewards I just kept in storage and used only my daily forge points for swapping and techs. Suddenly I realized the more I stayed in an age the more special buildings I would get that would need to be upgraded, and I would always feel broke constantly trading all of my goods for higher age, for techs and some of the other great buildings that I didn't have like Chateau Frontenac, The Arc, Dynamic Tower.) while trying to keep enough goods to negotiate guild expedition. So I decided I'm going to make it my goal to move up in the ages just to make it easier to get higher age goods as well as get more expansions for goods buildings. I saved of many 1000s of forge points and I had maybe 6 terrace farms. I raced through modern era and postmodern era all the way to contemporary era. By this time I was producing a lot of goods so it was fairly easy to make that jump. I skipped building military buildings, negotiated guild expeditions. This saved me a lot of space for more goods buildings. as well as less population buildings, therefore less happiness buildings. My whole city was devoted to goods and forge points producing buildings with the least amount of Great Buildings as possible. I waited to build Chateau Frontenac, The Arc and Dynamic Tower so I could use the space for goods and forge point buildings. Waiting to build those great buildings saved me a lot of goods to use for techs and made it cheaper to build at a higher age but the terrace farms were absolute key to moving up in the ages. The terrace farms allowed me to slow down on the continent map because I didn't need goods deposits. The extra space with less population buildings etc. allowed me to throw in every special building I got. Event buildings, Shrines of Knowledge, tribal squares, wishing wells etc. Then I stumbled upon those antiaircraft vehicles while in contemporary era. WOW! Those are the best troops in this game. Suddenly I found I could complete guild expedition every week very easily with just 2 antiaircraft buildings. I kept champions, drummers, etc. so my Alcatraz only produced rogues this whole time. And while in contemporary just rogues and antiaircraft vehicles. It turns out that contemporary goods are in high demand so it's easy to trade contemporary goods for tomorrow goods. I stayed in contemporary era a few months because I so was so excited how easy it was to fight in guild expedition. The contemporary era is the perfect era to race to and stay for a little while. During contemporary I accumulated more terrace farms (a total of 12) got massive amounts of other good stuff from guild expedition. I raced through the continent map to tomorrow era with the antiaircraft vehicles. I used the goods from terrace farms to trade for tomorrow goods for the next tech tree and I built the Chateau Frontenac. Wow! When I finally decided to move to tomorrow era I was still completing guild expedition easily with the anti aircraft vehicles, as well as racing through the continent map for tomorrow era. I never built anything from the tomorrow era. I built my Arc as I bought the goods with forge points as well as the goods needed for the future tech tree. I jumped to future era. I manged to upgrade all of my terrace farms with renovation kits while in the future era. While in the future era I focused on getting Alcatraz and Innovation Tower high enough so that I need the least amount of population and happiness buildings. Producing future goods with terrace farms turn out to be a good move because they are so high in demand that you can trade them up or down for any good. Also those antiaircraft vehicle were still getting me through most of guild expedition even in the future era. And I used antiaircraft vehicle to get through most of the future map. All of a sudden this Kraken great building came out. I decided to get it as soon as possible. Then I stumbled upon the best part of my strategy in this game aside from building terrace farms, which I call the 'friendslist strategy'. In order to get prints I looked in the global rankings for players who had Krakens and sent them invites so I could snipe the blueprint rewards as their Krakens went up. Next I needed Oceanic Future goods so I looked at the top 50 players in the Oceanic Future era and sent them invites so I could trade with them in the market. Suddenly my market was filled with top level players offering Oceanic Future goods Once I realized how important friends are for trading I tossed my guildies off my friendslist. I stopped worrying about player tavern and I focused on building my friendslist in 2 ways. "the lower half" players whose buildings I meet in my neighborhood every couple weeks and who don't swap forge points so their great buildings are consistantly snipable for forge point rewards. And "the upper half" with top ranking players who consistantly offer good trades in the market for high age goods. After spending a little time trading future goods for Oceanic Future goods to build my Kraken, I decided it would be easier just to produce them in the Oceanic Future era. So I raced through the rest of Future era and through Arctic Future as fast as the promethium production allowed me to do. I upgraded many of my terrace farms and other buildings to Arctic Future and made it to Oceanic Future. The only change I had to make in the Arctic Future was using hover tanks, a Future era troop, for guild expedition and the Arctic Future map. I upgraded most of my terrace farms to Arctic Future era as well as many of my special buildings. I also built the Dynamic Tower in Arctic Future era to help get a few Oceanic Future goods from my new friends when aiding. My friendslist now consists of about 50 high ranking players in the Oceanic Future era who offer good trades and about 40 very low ranking players who contribute forge points to their own great buildings. This gives me a steady supply of almost any good as well as a consistant supply of forge point rewards from great buildings. Now I just need to learn to fight better in guild expedition with Oceanic Future troops. But it turns out having a well mix of terrace farms and other special buildings upgraded to future era or arctic future era also turned out to be a great move. Because most of the high ranking players that moved into Oceanic Future era early have no way of producing future goods for trading or Arctic Future goods for negotiating. So now I have no need to produce oceanic goods because as long as I produce the 2 single hardest goods to get in this game. (future and arctic future) I can use them to get any other good I need even Oceanic future goods. Between progressive and Oceanic Future the only time I've needed to produce standard goods buildings was for a short time through contemporary. That is the story he told me. You will notice that he did some things very different to what I am recommending. I am never recommending to delete great buildings as all invested forge points would be lost then. He did it and developed faster. But think twice before you make such a decision! An impressive development and I just wanted to share with you how different people use the possibilities the game is offering.
Thank you so much for this channel and these videos. I'm a new FOE player, only been playing about a month now, and I can't believe how much there is to this game. Catching on quick and learning more everyday, and your advice has been most helpful. Thank you again, and keep up the good work.
3 years into the game (almost done with oceanic only 6 more technologies left! im damn near 6 months into this age) and never took great buildings or expeditions all that seriously. typically used great buildings for burning forge points while im stuck on research developments. but great idea for the terrace farms,
Hi FoEhints! I loooove watching your videos on TH-cam and this one was quite amazing, because I am in a similar situation too! I started playing FoE on the 1st week of June 2017 and, based on my estimate, I should speed jump from the Arctic Future (my current Era) to the Deep Sea Exploration Technology within Oceanic Future by the end of this month or 1st week of September (depending on how many Promethium I get every 18 hours and how many I need to use for Guild Expedition Level IV's Negociations lol So, I should reach Oceanic Future 14-15 months after starting to play FoE...take care and keep up the good work! :)
I like the idea of videos detailing different strategies, even if this one is almost the opposite of mine. It all depends on how you define success at the game. I have been playing for 9 months and have two cities, one in HMA and one in Colonial. The Colonial I wish I had kept in HMA longer, as it is so much easier to level up your GBs in the lower ages. Also, I don’t battle at all, so I put that time into sniping GBs, making deals with players for advanced-era goods and negotiating through Level 4 of GE in both cities every week without ever even coming close to running out of goods.
Next week will be one year for me, and I have reached Future Era. Some tips I can add: - always play lvl3 of the guild expedition and build temple of relics. That way you build up an army of 24 units each week without military buildings. - get your attack/defense to 90% as soon as possible and avoid negotiating - Don’t build the Arc too soon, first get your important buildings to lvl10. Inno tower and Alcatraz are the only buildings worth building before you reach that era. - I (only) spent 70 euro on diamonds, but I started on a 2nd world, just to play GE lvl4 and collect extra diamonds to spend in my main world.
Nice strategy. One GB I bought early in the game was the innovation tower. Although it is costly to buy its goods using forge points, it saves SO MUCH space from the houses to get population.
I'm going about it in a different approach. I sat down in Colonial and started buying every Great Building that I will want in the latter eras, including Dynamic Tower, which has been a major help, allowing me to get every good for Alcatraz for free. I also have the Arctic Orangery and am buying the Kraken right now while doing swaps for my Arc. I want to get every GB set down and not have to worry about moving them around later as I progress further...until 2-lane roads come.
Also a nice plan. More and more people are trying to build the more advanced great buildings earlier. I thought it would be good to describe a development of a player building only current great buildings. His way to they Oceanic Future is much faster. There is not one best way in the game. Everybody should do what is best for him/her. To support these decisions I simply want to describe examples.
I took this video as a challenge some time ago, just to see if I could do better. It is now 525 days after I started an I have reached the oceanic future (around 17 to 17,5 months of play). And that with out pay a single euro.
I switched my terrace farms to goods production in Modern as well. Very effective. I also built very low pop Hatters, 40 of them, in both my Modern cities. The hatters provide me with 8 quests a day, four more from collect supplies, three more from coins, and then about 20 more from the Pay X coin/supply quest. With a level 10 chateau, these 35 quests generate about 160 goods a day, and about 12 forge points and 1500 medals a day, along with 2-3 random blueprints. I've already traded up from Modern to Contemporary for my Innovation Tower, with DT next in line. But this strategy is intriguing because one of those cities only has three terrace farms and the other 8. Maybe I take the one with 8 to CE as fast as possible, and see how that goes. Thank you for your video.
good to see so many different approaches to the game. 1. only advantage i see to race ahead is to unlock space expansions fast. i just love camping in an age and try to maximise the advantages of recurring questlines. advancing too soon means attack/good GBs not built up and hence GE/BG experience suffers. 2. I spent about a month and half in LMA and close to 2 months in Colonial. easily finishing GE lvl4 without spending any good. will move up only once my arc is above 30 (will get there in a couple of weeks as i've built up my fp generation to about 200/day and in a active guild that has 1.9 thread) 3. imo, DT is advantageous only if built when in lower age. at the end, whatever suits you, just be happy :)
Well I am one year into the game and I am at modern era right now.. Playing everyday and getting every FP I can get... My city is actually big and my rank is getting higher everyday... Maybe in a month I will see myself in top 1000, and in two in top 500, in three in top 300, we will see. Also when I got in modern era I decided that my 4 terrance farms need to produce goods, not FP.
642 days - and now I'm in the Virtual Future (so, it took me about 22 months). I didn't timed it when I got to the Oceanic era, but since I was there since last year autumn, so about 5 month ago, so it'll be about 17 month. I've beaten this guy's time, I guess:) My strategy: make impact on goods production, build only goods producing GB, upgrading them to 10-15 lvl will be enogh (I have 5 such GBs) ; special buildings from events are awesome, most of them give multiple daily rewards, including goods and FPs; terrace farms and sleigh builders rock! get as many of them as you can; build Relic Temple and use expeditions to supply yourself with terraces, warriors and extra goods (completing 3 lvls will be enough most of the time, 4th lvl is too expansive in terms of goods); and don't shy away from using ordinary goods producing buildings. Drawback: it'll handicap you in terms of PvP (I don't participate in Guilds Battles, so it was Okay for me).
It is still a great time, but it isn’t fair to compare it with the player shown in the video. Today all these great event buildings make it much easier. Don’t forget that some years ago player had less and worse event buildings. Forge points came from Shrines of Knowledge and goods were produced in the related production buildings only.
@@FoEhints I surely agree with that! I used to play some years ago and it was so much tougher, I dropped the game in Postmodern era. Now when I returned and found all these events - yeah, huge difference.
I don't see how getting to OFE in 18 month is something amazing. He just rushed through eras helping himself with diamonds. I'm playing a bit more than 2 years and I'm at the end of AFE while staying 2 extra months in CE and 3 month in each FE and AFE. :/ I've read on forums about guy who manage to get to AFE in 2 years with only placing a couple of expansions, that is amazing!
Hey foehints. I have an idea for a video which I'd like to watch and learn. I'm a relatively new player to the game. I've been playing for 2 or 3 months. I'm currently in the EMA, and I'm focusing in upgrading my main great buildings (zeus, aachen, temple of relics), and maximizing my forge point production as much as I possibly can. One thing that makes me insecure of advancing to the next eras are the required goods for research and guild expedition. I don't understand how the system of unrefined and refined goods work, and this keeps me from developing, fearing that I could no longer be able to complete the guild expedition. Maybe you could make a video, explaining the goods for each era, and how they work together (refining, optimizing production per terrain, etc). I know it must be a simple matter for advanced players, but I'd really like to understand how all this works. Thanks in advance!
Still being in the Early Middle Ages it will take some time before you will reach the Modern Era, the first age where your good production needs unrefined goods. It will need goods from the Colonial Age. So it could already be interesting to understand the topic when being in the Colonial Age. I already have the video that helps you. But it is currently available in German only. I am translating my German videos one after another. Before modern era videos, I will translate progresse era videos. But I promise that the modern era video will be available in this channel before you reach the colonial age.
Don’t worry. This game has so many events. You will soon own many. But better than that: Completing guild expedition level 4 every week is the key to receive the best rewards
Absolutely no reason to feel bad. We all play because it is fun. And as long as it is fun it is good. But if you want to benefit from spottedleaf, think about these next steps: - get to contemporary as fast as possible - remain much longer in contemporary - make guild expedition every week - focus on the important great buildings - get terrace farms - collect renovation kits
I am making guild expeditions every stage when it is unlocked, I have got 6 terrace farms, some renovation kits and got Arc, Arctic Orangery and Kraken... So, yeah now just contemporary... But I should say, that I learn lot of from your videos... :-)
Tell me about it - I made it to PME in about 9 months worth of gameplay... but I've been playing for a total of about 2 years. I could have finished The Future (which was the highest age at the time of my joining) within a year if I hadn't paused for 2 months at Prog.
I will do so - but it still will take a while. My most advanced account is just about to enter the Arctic Future. I already have all blueprints, but I still need to produce the goods
FoEhints I see, have you ever considered doing a FP for Goods trade? Where you find a player in OF or AF and pay x amount of Fp to a gb of choice(usually arc) per set for the goods?
One city is in the future era and I sold many future goods for forge points. With another city I bought the Arc goods for forge points (shown in the arc video) Being only one step away from Arctic Future I am not planning to buy the goods for forge points
My strategy for beginners who would like to race through the ages: don't. You wont be able to survive the current neighborhoods with 150% defense in LMA and 120% atk Taking some time between ages and doing some recurring quests while leveling the current GB is one of the best strategies as it allows for enough time to accumulate goods/atk bonuses for the lvl4 expedition.
it´s unreasonable to be stuck in lower era ages for more than 3 months. It´s however pretty acceptable to be 3 to 6 months on the later eras, since they way more demanding.
Foehints has extremely clear and careful enunciation, and a nicely modulated presentation. It's fast enough for me, and I usually play the vids several times so that I understand all the points anyway!

Dynamic Tower is now called a Truce Tower.
Most impressive thing about this strategy is getting all those renovation kits. I wonder how he did that!

12 month and im in Arctic Future. Lvl 80 arc. (Treftre in EN server called Korch) Balanced troops and goods.

Thanks c:
I don't see how getting to OFE in 18 month is something amazing. He just rushed through eras helping himself with diamonds. I'm playing a bit more than 2 years and I'm at the end of AFE while staying 2 extra months in CE and 3 month in each FE and AFE. :/
I've read on forums about guy who manage to get to AFE in 2 years with only placing a couple of expansions, that is amazing!
In the video you wrote st. Marks cathedral. Perhaps you meant st. Marks basilica? Interesting video, new ideas, thank you :-)
nice plan :)
Do you happen to have a link to the artical he read to change his thinking? Would be nice to read that also.
Great videos, keep up the good work.

FoEhints thanks a lot man!
Curious how the player’s defence doing without any defence GBs... watchfires, ritual flame to ~300%? You gotta defend those farms!
hoopla does that mean getting rid of victory towers as well?
ha! i'm in contemporary era for 2 years...i am raising my GB without any problems :)
I never negotiate as that takes a lot of goods.
lvl 1 to 3 it's easily done with fights
everyone struggles with lvl4 unless they have like 150% atk bonus and a well level kraken and AO
Actually got my st basils to level 2 today now I’m tempted to get rid of it lol, good thing I didn’t build dc and rah either lol
So this basically means that if I dont have Event buildings (which I do not, I started barely 2 weeks ago), I am fucked.
Don’t worry. This game has so many events. You will soon own many.
But better than that: Completing guild expedition level 4 every week is the key to receive the best rewards
Cool👍
Wow, I am playing FoE since 11.7.2013, but beacuse I had lot of pauses I am in Postmodern era... I feel bad now... :-)
Absolutely no reason to feel bad.
We all play because it is fun. And as long as it is fun it is good.
But if you want to benefit from spottedleaf, think about these next steps:
- get to contemporary as fast as possible
- remain much longer in contemporary
- make guild expedition every week
- focus on the important great buildings - get terrace farms
- collect renovation kits
I am making guild expeditions every stage when it is unlocked, I have got 6 terrace farms, some renovation kits and got Arc, Arctic Orangery and Kraken... So, yeah now just contemporary... But I should say, that I learn lot of from your videos... :-)
Tell me about it - I made it to PME in about 9 months worth of gameplay... but I've been playing for a total of about 2 years. I could have finished The Future (which was the highest age at the time of my joining) within a year if I hadn't paused for 2 months at Prog.
I deleted only one GB...Colosseum...it was a colossus mistake
Please make clearer:
Was it a mistake to build it or to delete it? Or both?
Hey foehints, could you do a video on the Arctic Orangery
I will do so - but it still will take a while. My most advanced account is just about to enter the Arctic Future. I already have all blueprints, but I still need to produce the goods
FoEhints I see, have you ever considered doing a FP for Goods trade? Where you find a player in OF or AF and pay x amount of Fp to a gb of choice(usually arc) per set for the goods?
One city is in the future era and I sold many future goods for forge points.
With another city I bought the Arc goods for forge points (shown in the arc video)
Being only one step away from Arctic Future I am not planning to buy the goods for forge points
FoEhints Fair enough
My strategy for beginners who would like to race through the ages: don't. You wont be able to survive the current neighborhoods with 150% defense in LMA and 120% atk
Taking some time between ages and doing some recurring quests while leveling the current GB is one of the best strategies as it allows for enough time to accumulate goods/atk bonuses for the lvl4 expedition.
it´s unreasonable to be stuck in lower era ages for more than 3 months. It´s however pretty acceptable to be 3 to 6 months on the later eras, since they way more demanding.
OK well this dude I attack daily has a whopping +20% defense
In 3 weeks i am in earli midelages im 9
Sorry, but I think his town looks like a menagerie, not a city. p.s. the music sucks
you need to speak faster. i had to speed up the vid to 1.5
English is not my first language, sorry
but i still appreciate your vids :)
Foehints has extremely clear and careful enunciation, and a nicely modulated presentation. It's fast enough for me, and I usually play the vids several times so that I understand all the points anyway!
