Adding parking to remove street parking is the *least* French thing you could do. We love our street parking and we hate wasting space on parking lots. If you want that French vibe to go along the assets, street parking is very on brand.
@@CityPlannerPlays I like the trains though! Actually, the one place that would have an abundance of parking even in a denser French town is the train station, as people drive in from the surrounding low density areas to take the train.
@@PapaRoboto Outside of Old Towns, most European streets aren't particularly narrow. But even where they do get narrow, there'll almost always be on-street parking. It's not unusual for an older side street to have tiny sidewalks, no landscaping, and a narrow one-way carriageway, but a full row of parking on each side. If you're ever in Berlin, the Prussian planners made even the side streets so wide that many now have angled parking on both sides.
Pro-tip from a French person: don't be shy on roundabouts. The more roundabouts, the Frenchier your city will look. France is the country with the most roundabouts in the world. Also, as another viewer said, do not remove street parking. But overall, congrats, you did a truly great job! The pedestrian street especially looks top-notch!
This video makes me want to see a series on a full-out French inspired city. Screw the grid, lets see some old European style roads that go every which-way and where you can go all out with pedestrianism and trees.
This is such a cool idea! Excited to see others' attempts too! I'd also be interested to see a challenge to create the smallest (by population and/or physical size) fully functioning city (town, village, I guess) that doesn't make a loss. The long term, huge builds like Magnolia County are incredible to watch, but I've often wondered how a seasoned player like you would approach something specifically intended to be as minimalistic as possible while still remaining functional. I can't even imagine where I'd start.
Drives into the city, first thing faced is a roundabout, definitely French 😀 Plus a mausoleum as a "Monument aux Morts" from both WW, you sir got a double-Frenchitude check!
I've never been this early to a video but I just want to express how much your videos helped me when I road going through a rough time. Watching your videos on Verde Beach was just so calming, it was the only thing that helped me sleep. Thank you City Planner, keep up the great videos👏
Sorry to hear that you’ve been going through a rough time, but happy that the videos have been able to help you get a bit of rest. Hope things look up soon! Thanks for being here
Verde Beach literally saved my life TWICE while I was stuck in bed going through two different breakups. CPP will always have a special place in my heart
Man, everyone's talking about everything in the episode BUT the thing that got me shocked!.. HOW AM I LISTENING TO YOUR VOICE SPEAKING IN MY NATIVE LANGUAGE?!?! I never thought I'd listen to you speaking Brazilian Portuguese!
The fact you can make this in 1 hour and make it look so good is unfair but also brilliant. My most recent city has 2 hours played and a population of 0 because I'm trying to get the roads done properly.
Ahaha i always watch these and wonder how to build without building the roads first. If you unlock all, there’s a map that has multiple highways and a rail way already built. Gives a nice starting point. It’s been my favorite build I’ve ever done so far, now @ 16k population & growing :)
Yes, but the twist is that it has to be attractive, too. Folks are going to vote on the best looking city in two weeks. Only the largest will be included in that vote.
Great idea! I continually watch Let's Plays to improve my cities. This challenge helps us discover additional creators and build styles. Thanks so much!
I love how even in a timed challenge you make time for detailing! One of the things I love about watching your channel is all the great details in your cities
I have to say, you look exactly like I imagined based on your voice. The glasses, the beard, the short hair, almost exactly how I imagined you, I don't know... But you match your voice perfectly.
Tried this last night (full vanilla, not even the French pack). Got 2700 pop in the hour with no trains and only got to Level 3. Think I need some practice!
i want to see more of soviet republic! its very interesting and thrue half the video im like. genius move! and 5 seconds after im like NO its really nice seeing someone new play a game iv been playing for so long!
Such a beautiful city, I would live there if I could. On the coast road with the trains but only if I can remove some trees. I want to see the sea and the ships and the trains! A place I sometimes daydream about living in is just north of Llwyngwril, Wales where the Cambrian Coast Line hugs the coast with the A493 coast road and sandwiched between are pretty cottages and houses overlooking Cardigan Bay. Perfection :)
Imagine how much faster the detailing would be if the developers figured out how to add a line tool for trees. Guess it can't be done in this game either.
i thought by "1 hour city" you were talking about doing the opposite of a 15 minute city. so i was expecting a build that was completely unfriendly to pedestrians and with very inefficient land use. just giant roads everywhere and multiple highways cutting right through the middle of downtown where good property could go. just like how murica is right now. getting across town in the middle of day can take up to an hour. good ol rush hours.
Would you ever consider showcasing cities? Like having videos every so often dedicated to showcasing a developed, finished city submission that viewers can send in?
Really fun challenge! I also think it goes to show how much better the game has gotten over the last year. With the new packs and buildings, roundabouts, parks, surfaces etc. Really excited to see what kind of vanilla builds you can do in the future.
9:50 how else is it supposed to "look good" other than "visually"? can it "auditorily" look good? or "haptically"? not gonna even enter the realms of "olfactorily" and the like only to convey how daft "look visually" really is -_-

If I’m not mistaken, this map is based on Rock Island in Door County, Wisconsin! I’m really familiar with the area and was so excited to see it pop up in the video. Do Washington Island next!
It’s is! Washington island is actually partially there. The Nicolet bay series was actually supposed to be in Door County and once we have enough assets, I plan on doing it!
That is so cool! My family has ties to the island and it’s a really special place. Your channel is my absolute favorite, so I’m so excited to hear this. Thanks for all of your wonderful videos, my fiancé and I love them and learn so much.
Did the rail bring commuters to and from the industrial area? If not, it would've solved a lot of traffic. If so, another thing would be upgrading the connectors (island wraparound roads) to highways. How badly does cs2 punish you for bad traffic? Was that causing the budget deficit?
Gosh my biggest problem with roads in CS2 is that they're so thin and seem painted on rather than solid. Even the bridges have an extremely thin roadway and nowhere near adequate supports to keep the structures standing. (Totally unrelated to the vid, but...)
Wish I had the time to do this challenge. but work is very challenging.... although if I tell the boss what I really think I should have plenty of time. LOL
When the challenge is over, would u mind allowing us to use this map with non-approved mods installed? Would love to use this island for my normal cities🥰
I'm not going to participate in this challenge, but I just wanted to say that I learned a lot from watching this video. I only started playing Skylines 2 yesterday, so no way am I going to win 😂
Second attempt done! Much prettier, much better laid out, but no rail and only 5800 people :/ This is tough! It got to a point where all my demand was zeroed from "unnocupied buildings", i think rail is more important than i gave it credit for in getting people moved in?
At 5:45 a song is listed as being titled "Feeling Good - Master Planned Music" I've been searching so hard to find it lol. Is there any where specific I can get this track? I just want to listen to it more.
