Lol, I wasn't paying attention and screwed up my 12th fret side dots one time last year. I don't know where my head was, but when I was marking them, I only did a single dot on the 12th. Then I went ahead and drilled them. It wasn't until after I drilled them that I realized my error. Binding/acetone paste is a god send for unattentive luthiers worldwide, haha!
To be human ...... ;)! Nice fix information. I haven't tried my hand at building a guitar yet, don't know if I will, but this kind of knowledge is always good to keep in mind.... Thanks!
If you only needed to fill in a very small gap in the binding (from filing frets) what could you use if you didn't have binding? Do they sell plastic fill (similar to wood fill)? I'm talking like pinhead type areas that may need filling (white binding color). Thank you
This is what I need to fix. Most suggest to grind binding into a dust then sealing with superglue, but the space is so tiny. Let me know if you find solution.
I have a Jackson Kelly with a chipped out piece of binding right on the point of the headstock could I use this method to repair the missing quarter in half inch piece of binding and where do you buy that binding to mix with acetone can you order binding on Amazon?
depends on what the binding on your guitar is made out of, I would try a test on an area of the binding to see if it would work, thanks for checking in !
Great video! Amazing job! I have a few razor cuts from when I slipped occassionally from trying to scrape the binding. Can I use 800 grit sandpaper to sand out the razor cuts? I also tried using mineral spirits across the binding in an effort to remove some really stubborn paint that got on the binding during the painting process? The mineral spirits left just a faiint tint of color that I would like to get rid of. What do you recommend I use to remove the paint residue?
Captain 1201 800 might work as long as the cuts aren’t too deep. As far as getting the color off of the binding, I would try scraping it off with a razor blade
I might be able to fill deeper cuts like you did the dots, then scrape them with a razor blade. The challenge for me would be to match the color of the binding, since the binding came already on the guitar with the kit. Thanks for your advice!
Thank you for this video! Bought an old guitar with a gap/chip in the binding, now I can fix it 👌
This is a really helpful tip, thanks! I'll use it to smooth over the join where I cut out a piece of damaged binding and stuck in a new one.
Perfectly completed! Thank you so much for that wonderful idea!
Great video....great way to fill saw slits on a guitar where someone used a saw to clean the slot.

Thanks for sharing mate, i have a binding i messed a bit up as well. Will try this first 🙂
Nice job with the fix. Now it's a matter of being very careful when drilling in the correct locations.
I'm about to do this for a right handed to left Jackson neck conversion for my telecaster project, wish me luck
great man, thanks

Nice job. I kind of did the same thing with some binding glue and binding shavings.what is the acetone to binding mix ratio?thanks
Hi can i request make a video on how to clean yellowish guitar binding
Hello, would this work to make up some pickguard cracks?
Hi, nice work! What kind of plastic binding did you use? ABS or PVC?

Now you know why I never use plastic binding unless I'm doing a replica that requires it.
Good as new!
I thought I noticed the 12th fret dots, but I wasn't going to say anything. lol good fix.
Does this work for chips in the binding?
Brinnin Bolinger , yeah it should as long as you using the same type of binding and it’s soluble in acetone
thank you
Ooops! Binding putty!
You don't fool me. You did it on purpose, so you can show off your tricks. lol.
Keep it up, and peace bro.
Will Kupers ha ha that's funny, no man I really fucked up. It wasn't staged, :-)
yeah, just teasin' and kiddin'
