Everyone always bags on this movie but I say the Mickey scene is worth watching the WHOLE series. It’s sooo good and emotional, one of my favorite scenes in the whole series man. No matter how many times I watch this, that scene always gets me.
Mickey is saying what Cus D'amato said about Mike Tyson, there's a well known interview where he said that young Mike keep him motivated to live... altough he only lived enough to teach and model Mike Tyson into a killing machine and didn't got the opportunity to make him a proper man that's why Mike went on a wrong path at a young age. Took Mike 30 years to find his way...
The main problem for me is how wrong the morals of this movie are. In the rest of the movies Rocky was noble but here you see him fighting in the street with a kid he trained himself, using low kicks and similar, and then there's this triumph music that feels so wrong... and in the end he goes and hit in the face some old guy that can't defend himself, just because he doesn't like him. And it's treated as some kind of great victory... So, so wrong. I watched this movie for the first time with 17 and I made efforts to forget it. There's some good stuff, I am not saying otherwise, but it betrays the character of Rocky in very weird ways.
Burgess Meredith (Mickey) never in his *life* gave a performance that was less than his absolute best. Dude played the Penguin and made it believable. He voiced a character named 'Golobulus' in a glorified toy commercial and made it into Shakespeare! Man was a virtuoso. Genuine legend.
Unlike a lot of reactors, you GET Mickey. They comment on his brusque nature, but you see through to his warrior's heart and his tough love. I can relate to Mickey too. :)
Mic is a Philly boy and a boxing manager !!! His acting was brilliant and spot on for the city he was in and his attitude and what he did for a living !!! Absolutely perfect !!!
J has said since he watched the second movie that Mick was an all timer for him. That chapel scene where he sat with Rocky despite disagreeing and having no real gain, but just because it was the right thing to do won J over for life. LoL

I never cared what people thought of this movie. I never expected them top the fourth one. I liked seeing Rocky back in the neighborhood. Yeah, Tommy was a weak antagonist, but another uber villain at that point wouldn't have been very realistic at this point. I think alot of people just didn't like seeing Rocky loose it all after coming so far. I even enjoy the streetfight. Can't wait to see your reaction to Rocky Balboa. Don't forget tissues.
At the time I thought it was good but the acting was weak was my only complaint...everyone else hated it because Rocky lost everything..that was what I remember the complaints were.
The street fight was my only major complaint with the movie. I rather it been in the ring the teacher vs his student. At the end of the day the street fight really didn't solve anything. Rocky is. still broke and Tommy is still the champ
Another great reaction! Sylvester Stallone actually said the reason why he made another Rocky movie after this was because he hated how he initially ended it with this movie. I liked it but it definitely was the weakest of the series. “Rocky Balboa” the final movie, is really good and I know by the amount of emotion you show in your reactions you’ll definitely get choked up a little in some of the scenes. Plus it has one of the most inspiring speeches in any movie I’ve seen. I really hope you end up doing a reaction to the “real” end to the Rocky series, it’s actually called “Rocky Balboa”
13:03 is very hard to watch and gets me everytime (makes me have a tear or tears in my eyes) no matter now many times I watch Rocky 5 , especially seeing memories of mickey training Rocky and Rocky remembering them special moments of his life and boxing career with mickey. It's hard enough watching Adrian slip into a coma in Rocky 2 , but great to see her recover again and then for mickey to pass away in Rocky 3 ,especially tge way he passed away aswell with Rocky and Adrian absolutely heartbroken aswell as all of us Rocky fans. Then to top it all this scene at 13:03 of Rocky reliving and remembering the memories of Mickey Goldmill who was not just Rocky's boxjng trainer, but who was also like a real great father figure to Rocky aswell and someone that actually really cares about Rocky and Adrian hell of a lot. 13:03 is definitely one of the hardest scenes to watch aswell as Mickey's passing and funeral, Adrian's slip into a coma , Rocky losing his really great friend apollo in the hands of ivan drago and then Rocky and his family going bankrupt and losing (just) about everything , but then tp top it all this scene of Rocky living his memories and remembering mick for everything he had done to look out for Rocky and look after him like Rocky was is own son. Re: Mick, it's crazy how we get so attached to some characters that they bring out those types of emotions. Every time they showed Mr. Miyagi in "Cobra Kai", I teared up. Most reactors I've watched got in their feelings too, LOL.
I still think they need to do a movie about Paulie and Rocky when they were young we need to know what made Paulie so bitter. We also need to know why Rocky feels responsible for Paulie. I’m guessing Paulie did something really big for Rocky in their youth and Rocky feels he owes him. Something happened that made Rocky think I’m never gonna let this man down. I’m never going to stop being his friend. I just want to know what that was and what caused Paulie become basically an angry drunk.

It’s a great movie! Really great acting by Mickey, Adrian and his son… You feel for them and they are very important characters to highlight Rocky’s arch, to go where he goes on the following chapters of his story. Very emotional, so much about family, loyalty and the pitfalls of greed and envy. Remind us that Rocky is not just only a great fighter but has a team that has loved and supported him always and that’s what really has made him who he is in his heart. That’s why we love him really, and all these characters are so special. He needed that reminder for sure coming from the last movie where he almost damaged his whole brain to prove to himself, in this one he realizes what is actually important in life. This movie is very underrated, I personally think it’s awesome. Thanks for reacting! ❤
It's not my favorite of the Rocky series, but it's still good and has a lot of heart. There are scenes that get me teary-eyed no matter how many times I watch it. This movie doesn't deserve the trashing it gets, it's not the worst I've seen. I think George Lucas & his holiday special are still the reigning champs in that category.
It is a necessary transition piece for sure. Sandwiched between the hype thats is 4 and the over all solid flic that was Rocky Balboa. Without 5 the group between them would mean so much less.
The movie is bad no doubt but tbh out of all the Rocky movies Rocky V is the one I always saw on tv the most so over time it truly grew on me to where I don't hate it like a lot of other people do
I mean The accountant stole the money, that’s not really Paul’s fault, he had Rocky sign what he thought was a tax extension, in all seriousness rocky should probably had a lawyer reading over everything he signs.
Very few Adrians out there indeed. That woman is a saint. Man, I grew up watching Ellen Ripley, Sarah Connor and Adrian. Bar was set pretty high at a young age. Not the best one, but when I saw it for the first time, I was in middle school, fatherless, and dealing with bullies. So it spoke to me as a kid. The next one is probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite of the series though.
I always enjoy your Rocky reactions because I feel it is one of your strongest character connections I have seen you develop in anything. I mean, hell, a simple Mick flashback brings the tears out for any normal person, especially in this movie, but watching you, even the simple things between Rocky and Adrian bring a smile to your face. This movie is tragic in many forms for the fall of Rocky’s health, lifestyle, betrayal and the real life events of Tommy Morrison’s tragic tale. Sylvester Stallone watched one of Morrison’s fights and decided to cast him as ‘Tommy Gunn’ in Rocky V. He was considered one of the hardest hitters of his generation and was potentially one punch away from the most lucrative fight of his life - against Mike Tyson. Sadly at 27, HIV diagnosis led to the Nevada Athletic Commission banning him from boxing. He eventually died at the age of 44 from organ failure denying he ever had HIV and the test was false. As always, nothing but Respect and Love to you JL, Blank and the Co-Pilots!!
@31:43 There’s a directors cut of this movie which makes a lot more sense. I always thought his “Rocky” in this seemed more like a bad impression of himself in the first 2 movies. BUT, in the deleted scenes (can be found on TH-cam) it’s much more clear he’s mentally effected by the brain damage. That cut of the movie makes it more present through out the movie, in this version you almost forget and feel like he’s doing an exaggerated Rocky impression.
Wasn't Paulie fault, he simply just gave the paperwork to Rocky from Rocky's accountant and he told Paulie was a tax extension for him to sign. Rocky should have an attorney looking it over before he would sign anything to do with money.

I'm still in the intro as I type this. With the recent trauma from JLoween and J showing signs of PTSD in movies that shouldn't be scary, I predict that J will somehow find at least 4 jump scares here in Rocky V. Edit. Mick is one of my favorite characters of all time also. And I've been watching the Rocky series since since the 80's. Btw, loved that your dog was concerned. That was cool.
The money thing is in no way, shape or form on Paulie. Nobody with even a modicum of financial sense and knowledge would assign even 1% of the blame to Paulie. The accountant was a criminal so most of the blame goes there. We’ll say 95%. The rest. The rest is on Adrian. Rocky wouldn’t have the brains for it, but she should have. It was 6 years. She never checked anything for 6 years.
My brother, don’t feel bad. The scene between Sylvester Stallone and Burgess Meredith is one of the most heartwarming but heartbreaking scenes in the whole film! The first time I watched it, I even had to hold back a tear!
I 100 percent agree with your closing remarks on Rock 5. I am very much enjoying going through the Rocky movies with you and I love your co pilots. I look forward to watching many more movies with you.
Measure of a Man one of the most underrated songs in the series this one isn't the strongest but it has the most heart IMO never forget where you came from and what is most important family ❤

Hey man great reaction and that scene with Mick always gets me and when he died in part 3 it's really sad but it's always great to see him again in the flashback scene in this movie
Heh, Burgess Meredith, plays in the "Grumpy Old Men" and "Grumpier Old Men". Just to watch him in the out takes at the end of the second film is worth it. In the second film listen for this exchange. Him: "I have been to Hawaii!!", "Which Island?", him: "Come on I wanna lay yah".
I see you watching Rocky 5 so I had to go back and binge watch 1 to 4 with you... Outstanding, wish there was a montage of all your best moments from "fuck Paulie" to "oh hell no Paulie ain't gonna make me cry" 😂 love this channel 😎👌
Omg I love your shirt!! Your awesome ♥️♥️ just joined your patron .. so excited probably upgrade after the holidays but still very psyched.. how about Creed ? We watching that soon?!
Great reaction and commentary as always. The Rocky series is by far my favorite movie series and all of Cinema, and I include the two Creed movies so far as part of the Rocky series. I agree this is the weakest movie in the series, but it's still a Rocky movie so it's worth watching. It was great seeing Mickey again, and Talia Shire as Adrian did a great job in this one.. There's 4 more Rocky movies, if you include the Director's cut of Rocky IV . And all 4 remaining are amongst the best in the series! Can't wait to see your reaction of "Rocky Balboa". !
Fun facts: Burt Young aka: Uncle Paulie, Bobby Baccliari Sr, was a Marine Corps boxer and had a record of 32-2. He turned pro under the name Burt ‘Paulie’ Young and went 17-0 under legendary trainer Cus D’Amato. Not too shabby!😃😎
This Rocky gets a bad rap, however, this Rocky is filled with some of the most memorable scenes of the entire franchise. I was 10 when I saw this movie, and when it came out on VHS, I bought the tape and I re-watched it maybe 100 times growing up. Today I have the entire franchise on DVD and I still love this movie.
I have always noticed that also, but I think it goes much deeper than that. I say it's the fight he got beat back to poverty. On the other hand. It mirrors his acting career. He took it back to the beginning. I feel his acting performance it is amongst the best because it feels like the old Rocky. ROCKY 3 and Rocky 4 came at the height of his career. So he was a big movie star. So he cashed in a little. Where it felt like Rocky sly combo.
❤️ LOVE your reactions to one of my favorite movie franchises🥊🥊...you have Rocky's heart and yeah Paulie pisses me off!....this movie shows that Rocky can adapt anywhere..Lol,Tommy learned there's "boxing" and all it's rules, and there's street fighting...there are no rules

I dont care what anybody says, this one is better than rocky 4, rocky 4 is the shortest movie of the series. And lazy written Id say, apollo fights a russian and dies and rocky right away books to fight him, goes to russia to train and beat him. Barely any Rocky and Adrian. Alot of montages. Only reason why ppl call rocky 4 there favorite or second fav is because apollo dies and the final fight. Rocky 5 had a alot more to offer. I think ppl were only hating because there wasnt a boxing match at the end. Rocky and Adrians scene before the end in this movie is my favorite Adrian scene in the series.
Paulie is not responsible for them not knowing that their taxes have not been paid for six years. You KNOW if you have signed tax returns. a power of attorney can ONLY be signed by the principals. you want to tell me Paulie presented Rocky a power of attorney and Rocky signed it without looking at it z SIX years ago - and they never saw any financial papers for six years and NEVER asked - and that's PAULIE's fault? no.
The fact that (We) have so much disdain for Paulie is a testament to Burt Young's acting, I hate Paulie as much as you but all that means is Burt Young killed it with that role.

Can’t wait for the “Rocky Balboa” reaction. Hope we see it soon.
Couple of weeks. Late Nov/Early Dec, but I'll have to double check to make sure.
Def gonna check it out for sure.
24:40 “Nah fuck that. You catching these hands tomorrow.” 😂🤣🤣💀💀💀💀
@37:48 "oh you a bish" 😄 love it
Wasn't Paulie fault, he simply just gave the paperwork to Rocky from Rocky's accountant and he told Paulie was a tax extension for him to sign. Rocky should have an attorney looking it over before he would sign anything to do with money.
Tommy Gunn played by Tommy Morrison who was an ok heavyweight fighter, Sadly he died tragically and young. I might be wrong but I think it was Aids
13:54 someone gets cup for the waterworks, J just showed the chain with a golden boxer's glove now Mic gifts it..?...-Ernie Moore Jr.
Your reaction channel is my favorite I love your reactions to the movies you're awesome and just want you to know that you're one of my brothers
Glad to have you in the family, homie. The support means more than you know.
@@EOMReacts no problem brother glad to be part of the family.
@@EOMReacts it'll be 2 years in March that I lost my mother she passed away due to sepsis. And it's been hard but I find joy and happiness in your reactions
I always liked Rocky V! This was a great reaction! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed
I'm still in the intro as I type this.
With the recent trauma from JLoween and J showing signs of PTSD in movies that shouldn't be scary, I predict that J will somehow find at least 4 jump scares here in Rocky V.
Edit.
I'm disappointed in you Rocky. You couldn't give J not even 1 jump scare. Oh well. Thank you Drogo for scaring J. You're the goodest boy.
@JL 13:30 is the reason I am here til you quit Sir. I love your fandom but as a Man I respect your ability to feel and convey real emotion real hurt so so much. God Bless You Sir. I lost my angel wife on 9/5 we loved your channel together, and I love it still as a widower. Thank you for all the smiles you gave us in our worst times. Your pay is crap and you tube makes it worse. But you aid and make your fans lives better in ways you might ever know. Thank you for all the videos and time away from YOUR friends and family Sir. You made some real awful times for my wife and I so much better an hour at a time...... bless you I look forward to you finishing off the Rocky series and starting the Creed series. Tho this wasthe worst Rocky film that Mickey scene made it worth it
Your reactions are always great you make me laugh so hard love the pups everyone like share and subscribe to this man much love
I feel the same way. There is a lot of reaction channels, but always make me laugh more than the others. You dont even try to be funny.
Never thought I would see the day crying watching rocky😢
Mick is one of my favorite characters of all time also. And I've been watching the Rocky series since since the 80's. Btw, loved that your dog was concerned. That was cool.
Rocky V is nowhere near as good as the others but the Micky flashback scene is one of the best in the whole series and makes this movie.
Not only Adrian, Rocky too!
How did Paulie get POA to give to anyone for anything?
Bruh you might have the best reaction out of everybody doing this on TH-cam! You had me cracking up the whole time 😂😂😂 I
Hell yeah, Big Man! Great reaction. Can't wait for the final movie, Rocky Balboa. The pupsters, treatos, and I will be waiting!😎🍷🚬👍💪💪💪💪👊
I can’t even remember the last time I was Rocky five and I don’t remember the scene with Mickey at all. But washing it now with you brings me to tears.
43:14 you have a good heart and Pauli has a good heart too, even if he has his flaws... but this is a real character
4:24 great telling of E-Win.-Ernie Moore Jr.
Hey man great reaction and that scene with Mick always gets me and when he died in part 3 it's really sad but it's always great to see him again in the flashback scene in this movie
42:57 You're in for a treat with the next films. Can't wait to see that.
Rip Sage Stallone
I see you watching Rocky 5 so I had to go back and binge watch 1 to 4 with you... Outstanding, wish there was a montage of all your best moments from "fuck Paulie" to "oh hell no Paulie ain't gonna make me cry" 😂 love this channel 😎👌
“Your cartwheel is trash.” Lmao my man hating on Tommy so hard 🤣 rightfully so
I’ve always loved this movie, sure it’s not as good as some of the others… but those others are incredible!
Omg I love your shirt!! Your awesome ♥️♥️ just joined your patron .. so excited probably upgrade after the holidays but still very psyched.. how about Creed ? We watching that soon?!
Welcome to the patreon family! And we'll def try to get Creed 1-2 on here when we can for sure.
@@EOMReacts Thank you ♥️
Rocky's son is played by Sylvester Stallone's real life son. who tragically passed away a few years ago
If you like Mickey you should watch Grumpy old men. Hilarious movie.
First time viewer and subscribed because that dog of yours is funny and cute. I don't like Paulie either man.
Welcome to the family!
Love mick man seeing that clip of him everytime gets me almost cryin
This movie felt like a 2 parts episode of Little House on the Prairie.
Had allot of heart.
Hope you are having an great and awesome day ❤️
Same to you!
"Sue me for what...we got some milk in the frig." Ha, ha, ha.
They blame Paulie for losing their money how did Paulie have power to give power of attorney to anyone? He was in Russia with rocky.
I laughed so hard when you asked "how do you go from outside to more outside?"
Rocky’s memory of Mickey and his love for Rocky, and his loyalty, contrasted, with the disloyalty of Tommy, brings me to tears
Love you homie! EEEEW WEEEY!!
Cut that boys mullet, thats where his power is 😂😂😂😂 homie clearly saw the Conan the Barbarian movie!!!
I’ve never seen it. It’s always just been a joke people said back home 🤣🤣 - J
@@EOMReacts add it to the list brother!! Love watching a movie with you. It's like chilling with a friend of 20 years
Rocky Balboa is an even more emotional movie with more boxing!
The Next one is probably my second favorite behind the original. Looking forward to it
Fun facts: Burt Young aka: Uncle Paulie, Bobby Baccliari Sr, was a Marine Corps boxer and had a record of 32-2.
Love your reaction channel
I have always noticed that also, but I think it goes much deeper than that. I say it's the fight he got beat back to poverty. On the other hand. It mirrors his acting career. He took it back to the beginning. I feel his acting performance it is amongst the best because it feels like the old Rocky. ROCKY 3 and Rocky 4 came at the height of his career. So he was a big movie star. So he cashed in a little. Where it felt like Rocky sly combo.
Perfect summing up of this movie
❤️ LOVE your reactions to one of my favorite movie franchises🥊🥊...you have Rocky's heart and yeah Paulie pisses me off!....this movie shows that Rocky can adapt anywhere..Lol,Tommy learned there's "boxing" and all it's rules, and there's street fighting...there are no rules
Love the Tee and neck chain
The next one, Rocky Balboa, may be the best movie in the series. I'm looking forward to your reaction!
In real life, before his acting career, Gerald Tommaso DeLouise aka Burt Young (also known as Paulie) joined the Marine Corps and accumulated a military boxing record of 32-2. He then turned pro under the name Burt “Paulie” Young and went 17-0 under the legendary boxing trainer Cus D’Amato (trainer of Iron Mike Tyson).
I went to that school🤣,it’s true though. That’s normally how most friendships are made believe it or not
I dont care what anybody says, this one is better than rocky 4, rocky 4 is the shortest movie of the series.
42:46 comment inquisitive...conceptual coach gives knowledge that settles in the pupil...but is still connected to the coach...when the knowledge is used and works a satisfaction,, a peace in the world,,, a healing of the Heart happens that living was worthwhile and you won't die when you go, because you successfully connected yourself to someone who will continue after you...I might not know.-Ernie Moore Jr.
How is it Paulie’s fault Rocky’s Layer never payed his taxes and never payed for his house,Rocky and Adrian should of been checking all that stuff.
