I learned how to play saxophone. Many years ago from a guy who was in the New York musicians Union, and he played with Benny Goodman. Sammy Kay k the Dorsey brothers and Glenn Miller like he played with all the big bands.. He told me to attach my read. The same as you said to attach your read like a fingernail distance from the top of the mouthpiece. After being in the Marine Corps and going to college. Get in a real job. I finally decided to start playing again. So I started taking lessons and the few teachers that I had told me. I was putting the read on wrong. I started to think I was getting false memories. Thank you.

Don't forget to grease your corks! The pieces should go on without having squeeze the keys which can cause them to break.

I'm not playing the clarinet, I do not even intend to. I came to search for a C note on the clarinet and I stayed for the whole video. I loved the way she introduced the instrument, did not cut off the parts she was looking at her notes. It was so pure almost touching to see her devotion.

I'm a grade 7 pianist and have desperately wanted to learn a second instrument. The piano is getting too simple for me, as fun as it is, and although I wanted my second instrument to be the oboe at first I've decided on clarinet. This has given me a lot of understanding - thank you so much!

Thanks for the video and tips. I've started trying to teach myself how to play the clarinet because I miss playing a musical instrument and nostalgia from my band years. Played trombone then switched to tuba during high school. You're video has given me some great instruction and a few tid bits that are interesting. I haven't played for some years or a woodwind at all and the embouchures for mouthpiece instruments are different than wood winds. Its a challenge but within time I'll learn.

I’ve been playing brass instruments (mainly french horn) for over 6 years now, and have acquired an old clarinet from a family member. Think it’ll be interesting to challenge myself and attempt learning an instrument where I can’t just translate my skills to a different sized mouthpiece. Quick note: I’m being picky here but many brass instruments also have their music notated in treble clef, including French Horn and Trumpet. Bass Clef is typically reserved for instruments like Euphonium and Trombone.

Started learning to play the clarinet 40 years ago for 2 years, until it was stolen (I never bought another one to replace it, until today). I learned to play the acoustic guitar but today I finally decided to try the clarinet once more. I was happy to find your lesson which gave me a nice summary of some basic stuff I need to relearn. Looking forward to improve myself on one of the most beautiful instruments available. Thanks for the lesson 🤗

I'm a guitarist of 40 years I am looking to use my fingers in a different way so I thought I'd try to play the Clarinet. I figure I'll work on my dexterity on this truly beautiful instrument. Thank you for the starting tips!

I play clarinet and for G at 15:30 (the completely open one) something you can do for better tone is place your bottom three fingers down on the holes, and it helps you hold it up!

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH I’m in 4 th grade and I’m starting to play clarinet but my teacher forgot to explain how to do all of that. (Probably because of the time. Oh because I’m just so excited to play again I just wanted to play right away instead of waiting next week to learn)

2:35 in case your confused the “this” is called the register key and the park were the reed connects to the clarinet is called the mouth piece. She’s saying the flat part of the mouth th piece should line up with the register key. Also the thing that connects the two is called the ligature. (Lig a ture)

I learned how to play (flute) from school and when I watched one of the how to videos (I've been playing for 6 years now) I learned I was holding and playing it almost COMPLETELY wrong bc the school system (America) is shit at actually teaching you useful information

One other thing my first instructor taught me was to put a drop of oil onto the leather pads. When I first started learning, they had tubers of grease, which was thick but still portable.

Thank you for showing this. After watching your video, I did change my mind from buying a Clarinet. It is totally different from playing a saxophone. I am just too old to learn all new fingerings. You did save me a lot of money from buying a clarinet. I was thinking to buy Buffet Crampon Tosca!!! Again thx!!!

Just to touch up on some explanation, woodwinds can either play treble clef or bass clef; a woodwind playing bass clef for an example is the baritone saxophone or the bass clarinet. Brass is the same way, trumpets play treble clef alongside some other brass instruments. On the other hand, baritone plays bass clef. ~ From the brass kids.
