No life or death on the line.

Just a battle of honor between two men to prove themselves worthy of a woman's love.

I like this fight a lot. To me, this is a necessary fight for both character.
For Dr Shirabaka, this is his chance to express his love for Mikiko and showing her that he too, have the strength to protect her. If he doesn't do this, he might live his life in regret forever.
For Kaito, the guy never has a way with word, so this is his way of saying "I still love you Mikiko, I'm sorry for leaving you and this time I'm willing to fight for you."
Maybe I'm reading to much into this, maybe it just RGG Studio need to find a way for Kaito to have a shirtless fight

    • @alphawilliams7923
      @alphawilliams7923 2 ปีที่แล้ว +88

Personally, the final boss fights works for two reasons.
Boss fight #1 Is the story villain who have to be stopped.
While the second final boss was actually hinted at a couple times. The fight is about honor and fighting for the ones you love the most. That's what the theme of the dlc story was kind of about.
Think about the #1 final boss was a snake who didn't have honor and only loved himself. He represents everything that Kaito isn't.
While Final boss fight #2 was the opposite he was a man who was willing to fight and die for the women he loved. Honestly, I feel this find was hinted at when he was asking about how Kaito felt about her and that he knew Kung fu and pretty much was willing to do anything to prove her.
This fight was great for me especially theme of the fight fits the tone about fighting for honor and for love.

It's refreshing that Shirakaba put all that effort into getting stronger and building himself up not to achieve some grand ambition, but just so he could be strong enough to protect those he loved. In a way this is a classic Yakuza series boss battle: you're not trying to stop some evil plot, you're standing up and fighting for what you belive in. And how do Yakuza characters do that?
They defend their honour with their fists.
Though I like how instead of just going to phase two after losing half his health, Shirakaba decides he wants a full do over. And that his glasses remain intact after that beating. xD

When you think about it, among the other ex-yakuza protagonists, Kaito became the bravest among them more than Kiryu and Majima. Both were afraid of the uncertainty that came along with having a family despite their pasts as yakuza. So they all decided to abandon that possibility forever out of fear and love. But Kaito was the only one who decided to be brave for both himself and the people he cared about. He knows fully well that life with him will be hell, but he chose to face that head on. The truth is that having a person in your life regardless of whether there is another one to fill that role makes a huge difference. You cannot simply replace them with another…it does not work that way. Loss is loss.

I'll admit, wasn't expecting Shirakaba to rip off his shirt, reveal he's a Giga Chad and proceed to give me one of the most tear jerking manliest badass throwdowns I've seen in all my many years of gaming.
He was a different kind of boss from the typical, and I loved that. This also had a lot of character growth for Kaito. He had more progress and growth than any of the other Yakuza main characters in a fairly short DLC. 😂

Same. I was worried Kaito was gonna let Shirakaba be with Mikiko or that she was gonna resent Kaito a bit or something, but no.
It's uniquely beautiful how aggressively peaceful this ending is. Like, everyone is understanding of each other and it's just nice. The fight's nothing more than a spar. There's no ill will anywhere here. It's so wholesome.
I'd say this DLC is honestly, for me, on par with the main story. Maybe a little more since I LOVE stories directly connected and personal to the protag.

I'd just like to quickly say how much I like the setting of this fight
Most LAD final bosses (or even just bosses in general) are fought on rooftops, in imposing buildings (like the Tojo HQ) or similarly "epic" and/or imposing locales, and usually at night as well
Here you're just boxing a guy in his backyard, in the middle of the day, the usual unwelcoming cold grays and blues (as well as unnatural sickly greens sometimes) of the city making way for an arena surrounded by warm, homely even, orange and brown. It's that contrast that helps sell the unique vibe of the fight even further.

This boss and his absurd health bar has finally proven what some people already think about the series.
The health bar isn't their actual health, it's their "resolve". You really think Shirakaba is as strong as Mine or Shibusawa? No, but that doesn't matter. If their resolve is strong enough, they can win, and that's what a part of this series is about, all this powerscaling means nothing if you're willing to fight for what really matters to you.
It's the same way with people wondering why the final boss of Gaiden is "strong" considering they just got their ass beat in previous boss fights, because the final boss actually had a very important thing to lose and they're willing to fight for it to keep it.

A fortune teller that casually and subtly spoils the next 5 games ahead of you, a chicken running as a manager for your real estate, meeting up with the guy you fucked around with toy cars after like 30 years, having Kiryu think "hey there sweet cheeks" is a valid opener to speak English, having grown men figure out how to stop the computer from yelling lewd things in their office, running away from children dressed as Santa Claus. I really thought I'd seen it all.
But then, this guy pulls his shirt off. This meek doctor with goofy glasses I had met just about 5 or so hours ago reveals he has one of the most jacked bodies in the entire series. I swear to god, he beats out some of the other bosses with his physique. Not only that, he packs a total of 10 fucking healthbars. I had to pause the game just to process what the fuck happened.
I rarely get floored, especially with a series like this. But, my god.

@@leedlefly He does link the Judgment series to the main Yakuza series through it, though; I mean, for Christ's sake, he looks like a more thuggish take on Kiryu in Yakuza 0.
He carries the spirit with him.

Does anyone know the name of the music that plays BEFORE the fight starts? During the cutscene.

I remember when I got to this boss thinking
HELL YEAH! KAITO’S GONNA TAKE HIS TOP OFF!
And then immediately when he does so it’s
Oh no… he’s so battered and bruised 😭

Wow I'm surprised Kaito didn't pull the good ol' "No, as much as I love you I can't provide you with a good life like Shirakabe..." or something like that. I wonder if we'll see Mikiko in future games.

This fight is wholesome as fuck, but I'm a little bit disappointed that Kaito didn't have tattoo on his back since he an Ex-Yakuza.

Lmao, Kaito is the only playable Yakuza character that actually gets a happy ending. With Kiryu, saejima and majima, the ones they love either die, or they need to keep their distance from them.

Akiyama generally gets a status quo ending. Ichiban, though....maaaaan, he had a rough one that was soooo close to turning out happy. Until it didn't.

i wonder what kind of tattoo kaito would have on his back if he stayed with the tojo clan till its very end.

Sun wokung? Or maybe Momotaro’s monkey, cause he works alongside Tak and Kaito’s described as a gorilla
