Your comment about Vegapunk's message not being specific enough in terms of "who" could be causing the rising sea levels... I'm flat out not a scientist, but my understanding of a scientist's perspective on literally any matter: They simply refuse to pass off speculation as fact. If they are not absolutely certain on a matter, they may very well give you their thoughts, but specifically mention that they are not certain; most times though, they simply won't even bother mentioning it. Vegapunk noticed something was wrong, had limited information in terms of understanding the matter himself, but "felt" as though something must be said due to its blatant detriment to all of mankind living in the One Piece world. I may have worded that incorrectly, but the gist of it is basically "he KNOWS something is wrong, doesn't have ALL of the facts, but WANTS to relay what information he DOES have". It may come off as "wtf?", but that's mostly because (just as any intelligent person would that means well) he flat out says without reserve that he does not have all of the information necessary.

Depending on how it’s done. Imo having another character (especially a side character) use the MCs new ability a single arc after he gets it makes it lose its novelty. Luffy is already spamming g5 which already makes it seem less important than his other gears. But now there’s 2 nikas???? And I’d assume this would be bonneys strongest form so why wouldn’t she continue to use it? It just kinda makes the nika fruit seem less special and important. Especially if Bonney can do similar stuff to luffy without needing an awakening.

I know Bonney wasn't a real captain, but she was a real Supernova. I mean I do think she's joining the crew, and I want her to. I would just find it pretty hilarious if she went from Supernova to cabin girl or something when Brook and Ussop get to be full members. Big womp womp demotion.
To be fair, kaido was only an apprentice on the rocks crew despite him already being physically a monster faaar stronger than the average pirate captain. And im sure he was stronger than a lot of the grunts and the grunts were likely full members. The idea of apprentice pirates doesn’t really make sense imo.
It doesn’t even have to do with age because 15 year old kaido was an apprentice but chopper who was the same age when he joined the straw hats was immediately a full member.

An apprentice irl is someone who is learning a skill or trade from a skilled employer and typically agrees to lesser pay. They aren’t typically a full member of the organization/business. If that were the case they wouldn’t be an apprentice they’d just have the job.
@@kingmanga8575 well as far as I know the only time the term “apprentice” has been used in OP was when Sengoku referred to Kaido in Rocks’ crew. So apprentice may not have been an official title, but rather Sengoku was just explaining that Kaido was a rookie pirate at that time.

I dont agree with a lot of what morj says about his personal beliefs(some of them are really stupid), but he is right. Vegapunk's speech was a colossal waste of time because he did not say that it was the world government who flooded the world. or it was the world government who was manipulating the world. instead he just takes a neutral stance and says nothing. It was annoying.
but i will point out he cant say what happened at lulusia unless his will was written days ago before his death. It was a pre recorded message to play IF he died prematurely. if it was recorded before lulusia's massacre, then he logically can not expound upon that.

Story wise allowing a character period let alone one that just started being used really this arc to copy the Nika stuff especially this soon after luffy even achieved it is terrible.

About Wano: are you making the connection between Hyogoro's line and Luffy's Udon speech? Before he gives his speech, the samurai are hopeless, they can see only two options: a vainglorious death, or submission. This is a running theme in the arc, sunnachi. It's the concept of fighting while expecting to die, a staple of Samurai stories, and the Udon prisoners dilemma. The reason Luffy's speech hit was because he said they were planning to WIN. Kaido was so strong, the reign was so long, they didn't even entertain the possibility.
To me Hyogoro's line was a callback, instead of fighting while expecting to fie, instead of fighting to try and win, they were fighting expecting to win with all their heart. It hit for me.
The last piece in this thread is when they realize Luffy defeating Kaido would mean they'd all die from the crash of Onigashima, they welcome it. It's the contratidction between victory and death that is a running theme throughout, one which Ussop's calls out in the end. People say Ussop was contradicting himself because he worshipped Elbaf's philosophy and denied the Samurai philosophy. But Elbaf warriors risk their lives, Samurai give away their lives in every which way symbolically. One Piece is nuanced as hell despite the characters screaming what they think.
I'm honestly ok with there being multiple Nikas, as it fits the theme of how everyone has the freedom to change the future, they just need the imagination/belief to make it so. That's the feeling I get for what Oda is going for, at least. We will have to wait and see, though.
The purpose of the speech was to allow the world to think for themselves, instead of trying to tell the world what to think. The WG doesn’t allow free thoughts on the topics vagapunk is discussing.
Luffy's Nika powers also work on imagination, and he is an adult.
I think Bonney will be able to be Nika as an adult, since she will learn to be free like Luffy
I had a very negative reaktion to the reveal. Mostly the negativity comes from me just not liking bonney (mainly because of the fact that shes 12... and oda clearly sexualises her, but i also straight up dont like her personality, personally.)
However i think the build up was ennough. I just wished it didnt happen.
Now that it did i really want her to awaken and give gear 5 to everyone.

The speech is fine.
Not every person hearing it is some random citizen. We see the speech clearly pushing Sword to make a move, the Revo Army needed this info, than theres kingdoms like Elizibello's that we see being concerned.
Plus Vegapunk gave all the info needed to figure out who had Uranus, he just didnt qant to speculate on info that wasn't 100% confirmed.
People will say foreshadowing, but no and yes its still an ass pull. Take me to a future where Nika didnt exist.
Others will say its poetic but that also doesnt save the moment. If Loda had this planned for the post timeskip she shouldve been reintroduced in whole cake island developing a relationship with the crew and luffy.
Another point is lets be honest Bonney already had a lot of plot relevance with her being the Otama of Pacifistas. Her devil fruit did not need to be retconned to something completely overpowered. She couldve stayed with age age fruit similar but much better than Shinobu.
What is the purpose of awakening if before she awakens she can copy anothers powers prior to even getting hers?

Thinking more about it: I'm just a normal person working in a pizza shop, yet I am fully cognizant of the fact the information is not to be handed out in some type of arrogant manner without 100% certainty that you are absolutely correct. Information is not something to "feel smart about", give out in an incorrect manner, and have whoever you tried explaining something to go home and believe something incorrect. If you are not 100% absolutely certain without a doubt, it is anyone and everyone's absolute necessity to mention that it is simply something they believe to be correct but are not utterly certain of.... In my opinion Vegapunk did a very good job of attempting to explain to the entire world an idea that he was merely 80 or 90% certain on. He had an idea, was personally 100% adamant about it, but was intelligent enough to clearly realize he was missing information on the matter, and made that very clear to the populace rather than intentionally misleading them.
I think Vega wasn't telling people about the world government because they have no chance against them. If the water level raises at least they know what to do, go live to a higher place or build a ship.

I agree. Her copying Nikas appearance and base powers (stretchy body) would be cool but if she gets toon force it’s gonna make the nika fruit seem obsolete.
If this is the case Bonneys fruit would allow her to use any ability in the verse. Her fruit would straight up be superior to luffys. Especially if she doesn’t need to awaken meaning no stamina drain.

I think Saturns assessment of the fruit was mistaken because this hasn’t happened before. I expect Bonney to be able to become Nika forever, because she actually met him. Saturn seemed relieved that Bonney didn’t connect ‘Nika’ to Luffy.
Remember that Bonney isn’t Nika, the devil fruit doesn’t seem to be impacting her personality. Also, Nika LOST. He didn’t win.

Bonney should not have transformed into Gear 5 in EH. It's a great concept but the buildup and execution is terrible. She should have joined the crew with Luffy teaching her his moves. Then fought some opponents to go Gear 4 and awaken her fruit. Then in the final arc, She should have gone Gear 5. This is a waste of potential from Oda of a concept that could have been done very well. People could have gradually realized Bonney would go G5 not spring it just a dozen or so chapter later.
I agree. It kinda makes g5 seem less important than every gear in the past. Not only does luffy spam it but now going forward we may have 2 nikas running around for the rest of the series?!? Don’t like the idea of that at all. Would’ve been much better if this was an ability Bonney got later in the series.

I’m saying luffy spamming g5. On top of Bonney getting her own version of g5 one arc after it was introduced. Makes g5 seem less significant than other gears even tho it’s literally his awakening.
Other gears r used as a last resort when first revealed. G5 is literally being spammed. The themes r cool. But the impact of g5 is dying imo
This could theoretically be bonneys final/strongest form. Especially if she gets toon force. Imagining 2 nikas running around for the rest of the series really makes luffy being nika lose impact.
Especially since he had to die and get his ass kicked 3 times AND awaken just for Bonney to attain the same transformation in the very next arc with far less effort.
It’s not about power scaling. It’s about impact. Which is why super saiyan 1 means nothing now even tho it’s one of the most hype transformations of all time. Because children can attain the form due to a temper tantrum. This is a similar situation.

Morj, Vegapunk started the speech by saying the world is going to sink, THEN, he says to understand the reason we have to go back into the past BECAUSE this has happened before and it was a man made disaster. The people should care about the history because it will be vital to save themselves from the apocalypse soon. He even says who would know, the pirate king's crew. He yapped muchly but the throughlone of why it's an important message is clear. As to why he doesn't name the Gov, their actions up to now could mean they are genuinely trying to prevent another flood. He knows for a fact Joyboy wanted to pass down the ancient weapons which caused the flood, and he may have been the one to cause it in the void century. As far as VG know, the WG policy of hiding the void century (including Ohara)may genuinely be to prevent another flood.
Vegapunk is a friend of Clover so in his heart he doesn't think Ohara wanted to do that, and ideologically he believes knowledge should be accessible to all including history, but on this matter he can't say whatever he believes and only the facts.
Edit: as to what he is trying to motivate in the world: first off, the measage was a last resort to be broadcast only if he died. Had he survived, I believe he would've entrusted Luffy with finding the One Piece and getting the knowledge necessary to make a more informed broadcast. Now that he's dead, he broadcast the waffly message so the world wouldn't just sink with no one the wiser. Now he out a fire under people's asses to find the one piece, find Roger's crew or demand answers from the government. This message may have been unwise, according to Rayleigh at least, but the alternative is doing nothing and letting everything drown as far as he knows.
Guys Bonnie is a powerful ally and a motor of this arc, same as Yamato. No need for her to join the crew. No need for build up, the Elders concerns of the fruit awakening implies the haki use she lacks. Giving her more time and development is out of Oda's scheme to wrap up all the important storylines.
Everyone in the world SHOULD know what happened 800 years ago.
Bonney possibly having the one fruit that gets weaker the longer you have it is interesting. She'll always be able to affect other people and thing's ages though. If this isn't awakening, I don't know what it could be.

I disagree with morj on vegapunks speech. There is probably a bit more thwt vegapunk had yet to say, and it could also be the case that from what he knows the government may not necessarily seem like the culprit, he begins his speech by prefacing by saying he doesnt understand the motives or the reason hence why he says not to blame his killer or assume their intentions

I think that while Vegapunk was smart enough to record his message in case of his death, that disguises the fact that his message wasnt really meant for anyone specific. He continued Ohara's research and wanted the world to know because with his death, someone else will have to continue Ohara's will.
Its a smart set up for a desperate plan. He wants anyone ANYONE listening to pick up where he left off. So he broadcasted the message to everyone, and yes like when he created the Pacifistas, he wasnt thinking about how this grand global move would affect random civilians. Also, he was confessing his life sins of creating then losing the Mother flame. I think that Vegapunk's cleverness disguises that this message is mostly just his desperate, emotional catharsis.
