Thanks Sam. This was very helpful! I have to say your advice to always take your cane was great It took my quite awhile to figure that out. As long as it's bright I can see people and obstacles so I was reluctant to take my cane. Then I realized no one could tell I was a VIP so I started to take my cane everywhere. It makes a big difference!
I was part of a group of 10 people from my family to people from our church that went on a cruise in 2010. I took my Guide dog. It was great. The crew loved having her there.
my husband and I are going on a European river boat cruise in April. He has normal vision, I am visually impaired at a much lower acuity level than you are. I definitely need a cane from navigation. I will let you know how things turn out. so far, the emerald website does have an accommodation area so I also understand the ratio of crew to guests is quite good. So perhaps they will be offering some one on one assistance for some of the tours.
Hey Sam. This was a great review. You went over things I never would have even thought of, and I'm a trained travel professional. If you don't mind, I'd like to send the link to this video to my college instructors to show to their tourism students. I have to ask, at the end, were you asking other cruise lines for free cruises so you could review their accessibility? 😉
Thank you so much for the information. I had been wondering about a accommodations for low vision because I was interested in taking a cruise. I really appreciate you sharing this information. I will check into it now.😊
Hey, I experienced the carnival cruise. Also, there was a very good experience. Me and a couple other friends went on the sunrise cruise for the casino. Your best bet is to play the table games. You’ll have more fun with the table games. The dealers are always friendly they tell you what cards you have. Sometimes they let you win low-key until the manager switches out for another dealer so next cruise remember the casinos are blind friendly
Hey Sam, like you my wife and I did our first cruise on Carnival. This is before I came blind and I said we really had a great time on carnival so much that we took more than one cruise with them later after talking to experience junkies we took their advice and took a celebrity cruise and the difference between the two night and day services, everything just incredible when you mentioned the carpets I was a Paul. There’s no way that that should happen during the cruise but that being said I think if you switched to some different cruise lines you’ll find out your experience only gets better Norwegian celebrity princess or some that come highlyand really up the game thanks for the review and I’m looking forward to taking a new cruise with my wife now that I am a VIP
@@Mary-ow2nq I was cited when my wife and I took the cruises. We were significantly impressed in the difference between the two cruise lines so far it has been some of the celebrity has been some of the best cruises we’ve ever taken. We look forward to doing others in the future, and some of my friends have recommended princess for their levels of service. They always do a good job and I would not think they would be faulting in anyway and not a lot of accommodations. Enjoy your cruise. Have a lot of fun.
Sam that was a great video. Maybe the NFB should be filing a lawsuit against all the casinos and all the slot machine makers. They are a ripoff anyway, nobody wins. I'm not a cruise guy but it makes me wonder if the All Inclusives would also make accommodations. I have a really hard time at the buffets. Love that bit at the end where you are looking for free cruises on the competitors lines. LOL! Nicely played!
This was very useful information. I'd like to see how different companies do accommodations. They change the carpets often because they accumulate the smells from all the guests but mostly they can get moldy as they are exposed to high levels of moisture constantly.
wow, this is so cool! My family and I are literally going on this exact same cruise over Thanksgiving week. So helpful and definitely will check out some of these accessibility tips. to be honest, I have been too nervous to get a cane, but after seeing this might want to try it out on this cruise ship.
Well you had a better time on your cruise then I did. I'm totally blind and went on my own on a four night cruise with Norwegian. For me it was a complete disaster. I did get the tour in the beginning and boarding was no problem but once on board, I was a bit overwhelmed. My cabin was in a hallway within a hallway. Norwegian has these special cabins for single passengers but they are so hidden away it is impossible to find them. Sighted people helping me had a hard time figuring out the layout. The first night I went to the sit down restaurant and it went well. However it turns out you have to book the restaurant in advance so I was kind of stuck after the first night. Thank God for room service. I did purchase the drinks package but discovered I'm not much of a drinker so I lost on that. One thing you did not mention was utilizing the pool, fitness room spa etc. I called the cs desk and basically had to argue with them to get some assistance. I mean you have to traverse sun loungers and stuff to get to the pool. I did make it to the pool but it was due to the kindness of my fellow passengers. The life guard on duty there could not be bothered to give me an overview or assist me. The pool day was the highlight of my cruise in fact. I also made to the gym but the guy helping me to get a tredmill acted like he would rather be anywhere else then assisting me. Funny enough my casino visit was quite fun; hooked up with an attendend that was really helpful and had fun playing different slots. |He even offered to boost the volume up for me so I can hear the sound effects and see if I one. He didn't follow me around but checked on me from time to time. As far as excursions go, I didn't even bother. If I was having trouble getting around on the ship, how the hell was I suppose to go on an excursion? Finally on my fourth day I got sick the dreaded norovirus. It was vomet and diarrhea galore. Thank God I recovered by the next day when I had to disenbark. I don't think I'll be cruising again, at least not by myself.
Hey Sam, thanks for the video. Totally enjoyed all the information. I’ve been on several cruises a couple with family and friends and a few solo cruises. I’m visually impaired and use a mobility scooter so watch out. I enjoy CARNIVAL and have a great customer service. I tried Royal Caribbean, and it felt like the CUSTOMER SERVICE treatment on board was a little bit less than on CARNIVAL. I have a TH-cam page and took a few videos of my travels to Alaska. I’m princess cruises and other cruise lines again thanks for the video and all your information.
Great video is always. I went on a carnival Cruise actually to back in 2014 and 2015. The ship I went on has since been retired actually. Had a great time. The crew of that ship worked so hard cleaning and making the cruise a wonderful experience for all. did you two have any issues with the customs forms when coming back to the home port? Also, completely not related to vision impairment or anything. I'm just curious. How long did it take you to get your sea legs? You know how it's kind of odd walking on a moving ship? Yep. Getting used to that is called getting your sea legs. Lol. Took me about a day. Took me about a week to get over it once I got back to land though! I could still feel the ship rocking when I was in the shower at home on dry land. . Lol. Keep up the great videos.
Can absolutely tell the diference when NOT having the cane. I've been on three cruises with Royal Corribian. One time during an Excursion I lost my cane, and did not have one the rest of the time. The way I was treated, by staff, by pasengers was far different. I can't say my Royal Corribian experiences were very accessible. Though My wife - sighted - and I have always been treated very well. I think next time I will take the advice and call ahead and talk about accommidations. The free Wi-fi would have allowed me to use something like be my eyes AI functionality, or any of the other internet dependant things I use. I do have some sight, so I did alright, but the buffet was a nightmare. Which is sad because it's easily my favorite spot. Thanks for this video.
I’m visually impaired as well. Thanks for the information, I’m going on a carnival cruise this December with my family. However, I’m the only one that’s visually impaired.
Very helpful. I may have to break down and get a cane to use in similar situations. Too bad about lack of accessibility at the casino or the bingo night. Maybe it is worth providing feedback to the accessibility folks about the types of accommodations that would have allowed you to use the machines and bingo cards. The gaming tables are a bit harder to accommodate because of card counting fears. But games of pure chance like roulette shouldn't be an issue.
Another great video! And I did pick up on the shout out! Quack, quack! You definitely picked up some things that I have not thought about. One thing that I use the last time I was on there, and did not really need Wi-Fi for my phone, was the Seeing AI application. Meaning my sister-in-law and her son stayed on a different floor, on a different side of the ship. Like you said, all the doors look the same. So I took my Seeing AI, and process of elimination, read the numbers for the rooms. I was able to get pretty close, but the phone put me right on it. Also, by utilizing the carnival app, if I remember correctly, I could actually use it to read the menus and most all restaurants, as well as prices. I was there last Christmas, carnival valor. Which I think they’re very similar. I actually can’t remember if I took my cane or not. My wife is in a wheelchair with spina bifida. So, it looked like I was pushing her around, but she was actually guiding me! Face 🤣 but, based on your review, I can definitely see some things that we can utilize for our next cruise. Thanks once again!
We are traveling on the Glory out of Port Canaveral. What kind of charging outlets did they have in the room? Regular outlets or were there any USB ports?
If you know they’re going to have activities like bingo or something like that you’ll have to bring your own bingo card. I’ve found that I have to do that. With different church groups or other events that have game nights I bring my own bingo cards and other games that are either large print or Brailled. If they can’t accommodate for you to partake then you have to do it yourself.
I have RP. We went on carnival to Bahamas. They put blind on my ticket. When we were there to board they deleted it cause I was low vision not blind. At Freeport someone stole my cane at the excursion and carnival did not have any spares and I had no accommodations whatsoever after that
I am deafblind and going on my first Carnival cruise in Dec. I am trying to decide whether or not to take my Seeing Eye dog with me. Has anyone taken their guide dog and what was your experience? She has such separation anxiety and I would rather take her than leave her if Carnival is good at accommodating guides. TIA!
Do you think the casino was under a different management group to the rest of the vessel which may be a reason for the level of customer service being lower. I am trying to get a holiday company in the UK to up their game and si far have been met with a whole bunch of platitudes and good intentions but no real changes in service level provision.
I have a question? Were you able to remain in contact with your family using your phone? I might be going on a cruise and I’m kind of scared. I am also blind and autistic. 14:23
One of your earlier commentators mentioned how they were totally blind, and went on a cruise by themselves. I just cannot imagine doing such a thing. I am all about pushing yourself outside your box, but doing a cruise is such a visual thing, unless you are planning to rely on the crew or other guests as your visual interpreters, what kind of enjoyment would you get out of it. 0:06

Very informative. Thank you Sam. 😎

That's awesome!
hi mr sam i am a new subscriber and am low vision.. an i very like you sam am wait for next video
Wow. I had no idea of provisions for those with visual issues.

Is there a bright cruise ship out there? That's my question

Do cruise lines have spending areas for guide dogs?

hi Sam love from India I want to that you make a video about the concept of Guide dog
My husband is fully sighted and we couldn’t figure out how to use the slot machines either
I have RP. We went on carnival to Bahamas. They put blind on my ticket. When we were there to board they deleted it cause I was low vision not blind. At Freeport someone stole my cane at the excursion and carnival did not have any spares and I had no accommodations whatsoever after that
The cane did help us with checking in

If your partner is not visionary imparted. Do they get the the same treatment
I have a question? Were you able to remain in contact with your family using your phone? I might be going on a cruise and I’m kind of scared. I am also blind and autistic. 14:23
after watching this video it look like getting one the ship and getting off the ship and your cabin any thing else they could care less
Is this AI application available as an app to be downloaded?

How rude.
Puke. They replace the carpet because puke. If I’m wrong, I deny your reality and substitute my own.
